The place is ran by a bunch of trainees! No one was taking responsibility, either pretending to be busy or posting on social media! Manager was not accountable for the poor service but put the responsibility on his staff that is the only person that was trying to serve the entire restaurant! He was more concerned with having drinks at the bar with staff that had already finished their shifts. Chef himself was serving the food as serving staff were standing around not working. We left after starters as we had to wait over an hour for the food, and even longer for them to clear the dishes away before we could even get the main courses.

Came in for lunch and ordered the Jerk Chicken Rice N Peas bowl meal. I eat Caribbean cuisine frequently and for £15 was expecting a top tier authentic and flavoursome meal but was very disappointed with the food flavours and portion size. The 2 thin bits of chicken were burnt to the point where you could not actually taste any jerk seasoning. I mentioned this to staff and sent the meal back expecting a replacement meal cooked right, waited 10 minutes or so and was given back the same plate of rice n peas just reheated (now dry) with what I suspect was even the same chicken pieces with the burn scratched off the surface (making it even thinner). The cocktail drinks ordered with my meal were fine but for getting quality Caribbean food go elsewhere for much better at half the price. *** EDIT *** Review amended to 1 star. Reason being is that the business responded to my initial review with a comment telling me to email an address with my phone number so they could ring for a conversation to discuss my poor experience. I did as was asked and it has now been well over 2 weeks since yet still no phone call or even a reply to my email as a minimum form of contact. Customer service just as lacking as the food..... Best avoiding this place as they clearly don't care about their food or customers

The Staffs were very friendly and the interior creates a great vibe. Went during the Lunch time so the restaurant was pretty empty, but took quite a bit for our meal to arrive. Food looks and smells amazing but the flavour isn't there. Pro tip: the venue is quite large so get a better seating behind the till.

5/5 on all scales. Super friendly staff. Lively and chill music. Great tasting drinks at a good city price! And an amazing location too. Super glad I found this Gem, and thank you Daisy for all your service for us tonight! We will be back again.

absolutely love this place. the food, the music and the staff are amazing. i always get the jerk bowl (the chicken is so tender and you can get extra gravy as well) and their cocktails are usually 2-4-1 when i go and are really strong and tasty. ella is such a lovely waitress, always smiling and so helpful with recommendations. can’t recommend this place enough whether that be for the food or the drinks! overall this place is a 10/10

Nice cocktails, tasty food. Fast, attentive service to begin with -- less so when we left. We were there from 1800 until 2130 on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy, very clean, some better seating at the back by the look of it. Will remember that for next time. Recommend the chickpea curry with plantain -- delicious.

We came in for an early lunch. The service was great. Our server was able to provide recommendations and really knew the menu. Directed us to the cocktail happy hour which went down well. Food was good but my bun was a little burnt but hey I was so full I didn’t need it and the pickles that came with the burger were huge. I loved it!

The vegan chickpea curry, rice ,bread and plantain vegan option was so lovely. I will definitely be back for this.. Cocktails were also lovely and reasonably priced . Staff were very friendly

Delish! Went during happy hour so we got to sample a few cocktails -- highly reccomend the Painkiller! The jerk chicken was to die for, and the kitchen was happy to make a plate without chillis for my partner (less inclined to spice). The only trouble we had was catching the attention of servers -- we were seated in the back part of the restaurant and servers didn't circle there as often as the front. Pretty expensive, but if you sign up to newsletters they have pretty regular deals/money off!

Delighted to be served by lovely Jemima again; such an excellent waitress. She recommended dishes and drinks, all of which was delicious and spot on.

Such a great vibe in this expansive restaurant. I’ve particularly enjoyed watching Jemima’s career as a waitress take flight, and very much enjoy her camaraderie with Alex and Aidan. Excellent team players and hospitality staff who you should be proud to have in your employ; keep it up you lovely humans!

We went to The Rum Kitchen in Brighton to celebrate my son's Graduation Day from university. We were a party of eleven and we had the restaurant to ourselves! I had the BBQ wings and the jerk bowl and they both were delicious. The hospitality and service was amazing and I enjoyed the music as well. The staff made our visit special by inviting my son to make his own cocktail along with another member of the family. We had an amazing time at The Rum Kitchen. Thank you Jemima, Cam, Jonathan and Luke for making our visit enjoyable ❤️

On Thursday, we came as a group of 5 looking for something close to the Caribbean experience. To be clear, we set a high bar as we all know what that should taste like. The drinks were spot on, the service from those we spoke to was perfect. But Some of the food had to be returned twice. Some of it even for the same problem and ultimately replaced with a different dish. Ignoring that, the chickpea dish had no real flavour and the remaining dishes were only okay at best Clearly on Thursday something wasn't working in the kitchen. I would suggest that whoever owns this place focus on the food and make sure it is always on point. We wanted to like and recommend this place, it's fine for a drink, but should I return to Brighton, I'd eat elsewhere unless more recent reviews rave about the food, I hope as a result of this post

My partner and I were looking for dinner to eat and as we’ve been to Rum Kitchen in London multiple times we chose this place as the easiest option, but boy were we wrong! Entrance - Easy to find, not far from the coast. We initially thought it was closed as it looked like a ghost town though. Food - Terrible. I ordered curry goat with rice and peas and coleslaw and could not finish it. It was so horrible, I don’t know if the chef was actually Caribbean but it was definitely not authentic. My partner ordered jerk pork and they poured Bistro gravy all over it ruining whatever taste it could’ve had. We couldn’t finish any of it and ended up throwing it all away. Drinks - We had 4 glasses of rum punch and they were very nice. Decor - A bit dark and gloomy but overall nice. Very modern looking. Cleanliness - Very nice and clean. Cost - Over priced for what it is. Customer service - Great. All staff were nice and friendly! Overall - It’s such a shame because where the food lacked, the staff compensated. Very nice staff just need a new chef. I would not return to this place, but I am rating it a 2* due to the staff being good! Thank you!

We walked in a bite and Ella welcomed us, she was sweet. And Libby was our server. Aha, she did am impeccable service! She was very sweet, and very lovely. And made sure we were served well. I appreciate it! The food, was really good. The chicken was tiny bit dry, but other than that the food tasted good! It tasted like the chef has put effort and genuine food! So I highly recommend it. Thank you for the experience Libby and Ella :)

Pro: staff are friendly, service was speedy, didn’t wait long for food. Food portions are large. Sauce was nice Observation: went at lunchtime on a Wednesday, so the place was super quiet. Con: food was tasteless. I’m from the Caribbean and cook caribbean food at home and so might be biased - but honestly disappointed in how flavourless it was.

The Rum Kitchen never disappoints! We have eaten here a couple of times and ordered a few others. The food is always tasty and we always have a great service. Our waiter Dan was very kind and attentive on today's visit! If you are looking for an authentic Caribbean taste don't hesitate to come!

Great food, wonderful drinks, and very fun staff! Awesome location (park next to the Lanes Parking Lot) with direct access to the beach across the street! Amazing flavors I recommend 10 out of 10! We will be back!

Came here for cocktails during happy hour and the value for money was brilliant. Our cocktails were delicious. We didn't order food as it seemed slightly overpriced but the menu did look nice. I liked the layout of the bar but the service wasn't great. It was unclear whether we should've been ordering from the app or from the waiters. I would still comeback again though.

The food and drinks were great. Very good service from Dan who was very nice and accommodating with our baby and options on the menu. Was also informed about the free drink when downloading the app. Will definitely return.

We went for bottomless brunch on the bank holiday Sunday, can't fault the brunch itself great value for the drinks and food options! Atmosphere was ok, music was playing it was quiet in there people wise. The lady behind the bar was lovely and welcoming, other than that the 2 waitresses moping around couldn't muster up a smile between them? Probably because I complained that we had been seated for 25 minutes and I had to ask at the bar for someone to take our order! This was after watching another table be seated and served after we were seated...
