As a ski enthusiast coming from Taiwan, Onsen Ryokan Tsuruya provides absolutely wonderful services, friendly staffs and wonderful breakfast and dinner. Especially their breakfast, the onsen-style breakfast was really enjoyable! If anyone were to come to Zao to enjoy skiing, I couldn’t recommend somewhere else better than Onsen Ryokan Tsuruya to stay.

I visited here for a day trip. Four private bath rooms were occupied, so we used the public bathroom. There are both indoor and outdoor baths. The water is 100% natural hot spring without circulation. The water is cloudy green with a smell of hydrogen sulfide. At the inflow of the hot spring, there is a slight smell of oil and sewage in a good meaning. There are six showers for body wash. The facilities are old but clean and the staffs are super nice.

Stayed here for 11 nights in Feb this year for snowboarding, all the staff is super nice and friendly, will definitely come back again! They have shuttle bus to take you/ pick you up to/from different entrance of the snow park. (If you don’t have a Japan number you can confirm with the reception the pickup time before you leave the ryokan.) Huge dry room for snow gears. Ryokan guest enjoys one hour of private onsen daily, there are four for you to choose from. Reserve the one you like in the morning to secure it! Convenient location as well as its right opposite to the Zao bus terminal.

We were hiking and camping in the area, and we used the private baths at this ryokan with no issue even though we were not staying. You can rent the private bath, as well as bath towels, for a reasonable price. There are several different baths with different views to choose from.

Although the environment is very nice and people in the recipient is very kind and nice. BUT some of the staff in this hotel is very disrespectful to the costumer. That cause me to put 2 star to this hotel.

One of the best hotel in the Zao! The onsen, the food and the services are amazing. They provide pick up service and send you to the place you want to visit. The beef of shabu shabu is delicious. Onsen, you have to try it, and you can reserve you personal onsen room for free if you stay their.

The best stay ever! Location was right infront of the bus terminal. Staff were attentive and so so kind, food was amazing and we couldn’t ask for me. Only thing to take note is that the establishment has a long history so do not expect modern type of renovations. Everything was so great and we can’t wait to return again. Couldn’t be more happy.

Love this ryokan, they have a private bath you can rent for 2K yen for 50minutes, you can choose from 4 different private bath. This ryokan is just in front of Zao bus station, very convenient. Food is also fantastic! I enjoyed the shabu shabu dinner. It is quite an old hotel, don't expect the facilities to be up to date. The room has no shower/bath, need to use share bath or rent the private bath.

The best of this hotel is its location which is just opposite to the bus terminal. Their onsen is great too. Shuttle bus is scheduled to run between the hotel and the ropeway in every 30 minutes but most of the time we actually had to call the hotel to pick us up at the ropeway station (maybe because it’s the off peak season when we visited). We stayed there for 4 nights and never got bored with the food. Kudos to the chef who managed to provide different variations everyday. Thanks also to the staffs who showed hospitality in every aspect during our stay. A note worth to mention is the delivery arrangement (paid service) right at the front desk. We sent our clothes and ski equipment to the next hotel upon checkout so we could travel “hands-free” to Yamadera to climb the hill and then to Sendai where we stayed for two nights before heading to Tokyo. Do allow about 15 min for the front desk to fill out some forms for your delivery if you plan to use this service.

We did not stay as guests; only rented the private onsen. We called on the day and asked if they had any openings and luckily the staff was able to fit us in. We were instructed on where to find our private onsen and were able to enjoy it for 50 min. Highly recommend for non guests who are looking for a private onsen.

Everything was great. The food, the service and the staff. Private baths are available for booking, very pretty. There is 1 free slot avail per day and we are free to add on if we wish at an extra cost. Staff were patient and attentive. Food was great and the staff explained our food to us really well. Thank you for a great stay!
