One of the most beautiful bridges, in my opinion. Built in 1778-1784. The 80-meter bridge is considered the largest of all surviving bridges of the 18th century and an outstanding masterpiece of Russian bridge construction. The builders had to drive more than two thousand piles into the ground due to the instability of the soil. At the beginning of the 19th century, under the leadership of the architect Ivan Egotov, a student of Bazhenov, the bridge was completed and the road surface was laid. Since the end of the 19th century, the bridge became part of the Tsaritsyno highway - it connected the Tsaritsyno station with the Kashirskaya road. During the Great Patriotic War, tank columns passed across the bridge. In 1975, automobile traffic on the territory of the Tsaritsyn residence was closed. By this time the bridge was already in a dilapidated state. During large-scale restoration work 1985-2007. The bridge was completely restored in its early 19th century form.

The Big Bridge is one of the main structures of the Tsaritsyn ensemble. Built by architect Vasily Bazhenov in 1778-1785 in the pseudo-Gothic style, which is why it is also called Gothic. This ceremonial (entrance to Tsaritsyno) 80-meter bridge is considered the largest surviving bridge of the 18th century and an outstanding masterpiece of Russian bridge construction. The bridge is very richly decorated, its arches resemble the portals of Gothic cathedrals, and the red brickwork is decorated with white stone geometric figures. Because of the arched spans (wide at the base and narrow at the top), the massive structure seems very light. Unfortunately, Vasily Bazhenov was unable to complete the construction of the Big Bridge, because... in June 1785 he fell into disgrace and Catherine II removed him from further work. At the beginning of the 19th century, under the leadership of the architect Ivan Egotov (a student of Bazhenov), the parapets of the bridge and the red and white turrets on them were completed, and the road surface was laid. Since the end of the 19th century, the bridge has become part of the Tsaritsyno highway, which connected the Tsaritsyno station with the Kashirskaya road. In 1975, automobile traffic on the territory of the Tsaritsyn ensemble was closed. By this time the bridge was in a dilapidated state. Restoration work was carried out in 1985-2007. Today the Great Bridge has been completely restored in its early 19th century form.

The large bridge over the ravine was named by its creator V.I. Bazhenov as “The bridge across the moat near the priest’s dwellings behind the church, to the future stables.” The Governor-General of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Count Bruce, having examined the finished structure in November 1784, reports to Catherine II: “The Aqueduct [“aqueduct”] has a huge and magnificent appearance, so that it is worthy of memory by the posterity of Your Majesty’s reign and is reminiscent of the century of Ancient Rome.” The central part of the bridge from the side of the ravine with three large pointed arches and openwork rosette openings is similar to the portals of ancient Catholic cathedrals. Thanks to the rich decoration of the facade, this structure does not look heavy and impressive, although the length of the bridge is about 100 m and the height is 15 m.

Another beautiful large Bridge created by Vasily Bazhenov👏 Also preserved in its original form, restored several times. If you go to the side of the bridge under the trees, you can see beautiful arches and rosettes. It seems that the bridge is openwork and light 👏👏👏

In addition to the aesthetic component, the bridge has great historical and architectural value. This is the oldest bridge structure in Moscow.
