Gouda is a neat little town that's not normally jam packed with tourists, it's a short train ride from Amsterdam. If you go I recommend going on a weekend for the open air cheese market in the city center. There are also some great restaurants in town, I have yet to find a bad one

A lovely city with lots of history, culture, restaurants, lots of green (trees, flowers) good stores. Surrounding landscapes are just flabbergasting, good connections all around by roads, cycling lanes and hiking paths, waterways, railroads.

On one side you can find the cinema and a quick tour to the hospital. On the other side is a little hall with few shops but enough to buy some bread, warm donor or magazines. There's also a toilet but one of those automatic things, wouldn't recommend it.

Passed through Gouda station during a day trip to the city in late April 2023. It is a small station with connections to surrounding cities and towns. It has a small store. The city center of Gouda is about ten minutes by foot from the station.

They are still renovating it very slowly and seems to barely make progress. Since they added the automatic gates on check in (even though they are not closed) they make you feel like your entering or leaving a detention center. They build the new city hall and a cinema just next to it, which are both architecturally satisfying to look at. Further than that and small fast food shops (snackbar/coffee/sandwich/dΓΆner) this station offers you nothing.

The station has everything it needs. It's very close to a really cute park, extremely beautiful during the fall months.

The station is not weatherproof (often flooded with rain), there are shops but they won't be open most of the time. In the evenings the busstop-side of the station can feel a little ghastly becuase of the people hanging out over there. For some reason they are not removed from the station (not by the security employees of NS nor by the police). The NS Employees are not really attentive when things happen like people opening the doors with the emergency button, people kicking the gates open, people screaming to each other etcetera). Rotterdam Central station is a good example where most of the times there is security standing at the gates. Train and businformation is not sufficient and not enough. I've been to a lot of stations in West-Netherlands and this one is certainly the worst station of all. (excluding village stations of course).

It is not a friendly bus station for people with disabilities or with children, you have to put your kids at risk of falling when you need to go into the buses because of the height of the bus and the low pavement, and the bus driver wont help you either. The bus departure time can be arranged a lot better, I used to take line 1 and 4 and they both go to the same direction but they depart only 5 minutes apart every half an hour. The drivers driving styles could be more careful, they all think that they were F1 drivers
