Before you would get to or get pass you have to go through deadly bushes and cross dangerous rivers without bridges. My experience was awful!

Old Oyo National park is located in Oyo Town, Oyo state. If you are a lover of nature, tranquil environments, and animals, you will find this place interesting. You will pay NGN300 only at the museum located in the park.

Old Oyo National Park is one of the national parks in Nigeria, located across northern Oyo State and southern Kwara State, Nigeria. The location has inevitably placed the park at a vantage position of abundance land area as well as diverse wildlife and cultural/historical settings. Eleven local government areas out of which ten fall within Oyo State and one in Kwara State surround it.

Old Oyo National Park is one of the national parks of Nigeria, located across northern Oyo State and southern Kwara State, Nigeria.[1]The park is 2,512 km2 of land in northern Oyo state, south west Nigeria, at latitude 8° 15’ and 9° 00’N and longitude 3° 35’ and 4° 42’ E. The location has inevitably placed the park at a vantage position of abundance land area as well as diverse wildlife and cultural/historical settings. Eleven local government areas out of which ten fall within Oyo State and one in Kwara State surround it. The Administrative Head Office is located in Oyo, Isokun area along Oyo-Iseyin road, where necessary information and booking could be made. The landscaping and organized space within the large yard has made the facility very endearing to the public.[1] It is rich in plant and animal resources including buffaloes, bushbuck and a variety of birds. The park is easily accessible from southwestern and northwestern Nigeria. The nearest cities and towns adjoining Old Oyo National Park include Saki, Iseyin, Igboho, Sepeteri, Tede and Igbetiwhich have their own commercial and cultural attractions for tourism.

There should be regulations/ reforms to keep the park animals from straying as only a few is left. More animals should be introduced into the park

Old Oyo National Park is a very nice place but it seems that Government has abandoned it, many things need to put in place to make it more presentable so that it will not be a wast. The income generation from this place can improve if government can make it more presentable

Old Oyo National park, is a big historical park in Ibadan. The environment is serene and comely. They do not have plenty historical elements but you could still find some that will interest you, like the elephant skin and bone, the cobra skin, there is a live ostrich too, live tortoise etc. Its a nice place, you'll like it.

Old Oyo National Park is a reservation place where one can see some wild & domestic animals

  • 2/5 Thomas O. 5 months ago on Google • 44 reviews
This apparently is a shadow of itself. You can not visit at will; you must plan a preemptive visit on a weekday to the administrative office, where you will write to the commandant for access to the grounds, which may or may not be granted. The administrative office is being co-utilized as event ground on weekends; it houses a museum which you can access at anytime by paying a #250 fee. Below are some pictures taken inside and outside the museum. One more thing; the Old Oyo park itself has been deemed unsafe as more and more unknown gunmen and other unscrupulous elements have found refuge within its grounds.

Spacious landmass, serene environment. As at the time I got there at about 8:15am, staff were not around to guard me. So I can validate the kind and types of animals in the park. Although I saw an ostrich strolling within it enclave and was able to take some shots.

Impressed with the kind of animals and reptiles I saw there but the place still needs a lot of maintenance. Our tour guide was amazing and he patiently answered all our questions. I hope something will be done about the maintenance of the zoo as there's a lot of potential there.

  • 2/5 Adeyemi S. 3 years ago on Google
The place is now a skeleton of it's old self. The animals are now fewer and look hungry and unkept even in a festive period. I felt really disappointed

  • 5/5 Anosike G. 3 years ago on Google
After years of not visiting, it was a beautiful experience. Unfortunately, I visited in the afternoon when the sun was really hot and most of the animals (the lion and lioness, especially) were lying within their cages (not the large enclosure) so I couldn't see them properly.

  • 5/5 Luku O. 3 years ago on Google
One of the most popular tourist attractions in Ibadan. Very good for picnics. Usually draw large attendance, especially during festive or holiday seasons. Has limited car parking spaces.

  • 3/5 Oluwanifemi P. 3 years ago on Google
Not bad at all.. There are still so many animals there and the environment is not so bad. Alot of cages are empty. The place also needs serious renovation and maintenance.

  • 3/5 Victor C O. 3 years ago on Google
The Botanical Zoo at Ibadan is a nice place to visit but with everything Nigeria, maintenance is poor. Most of the animals look hungry. It a nice place to visit with family.

  • 4/5 Taofeek T. G. 3 years ago on Google
The Ibadan Zoo is located inside the University of Ibadan... It's clean and well maintained.... It costs only ₦500 for adults & ₦300 for kids... You get to pay an extra ₦1,000 if you're bringing Filming Equipment (Camera, Drone etc) The place is a bit old and the animals look less lively (Bored), some animal enclosures are Empty... There's still some amazing stuff to see around there... Lions, Crocs, Hog, Ostrich etcetera... I got to see a Giraffe 🦒 for the first time EVER 😀😀😀✌🏾 They have a play ground for the kids and the animals are well protected... I hope some sort of intervention comes through for that place...

The staff at the Zoological Garden are courteous and professional. It's a good place to hang out, especially during weekends. However, the place could do with some facelifts. More money has to be allocated to take good care of the Garden.

Still don't know how to best describe the place now, because the last time I visited was 2005 ( 17years ago) we went in educational tour from federal polytechnic ede and we enjoy every bit of the stay from the large room to wild flora and fauna. Trust me, we still all remember eating Amala in Sepeteri( one of the camp of the park) I hope the government would have done a lot of investment on site to improve the park and others in Nigeria. Those are the treasure area that hold the remaining wild animals.

  • 3/5 Yunus hikmah O. 3 years ago on Google
It's a nice place to visit most especially when you need a quiet place and you moment. You can relax under the pines , if you're looking for something more then you should try else where as they don't have much things that could be of interest.
