Owu palace is strategically located in the historic and great town, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The Owu palace is rooted in deep and rich history. It is the palace of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, the paramount monarch of the Owu people.

The Owu palace has its own culture of open deliberation where any Owu person can participate. That is why people refer to the Owus as “Owu a gbooro gbimo” meaning "Owu the deliberative group".

I've visited Abeokuta countless times, but on my most recent visit I decided I would go to Owu for the first time. I loved the general air of the place, especially seeing that a good chunk of the town is situated on a hill. This is noticeable when you drive in or out of the place. The chiefs I met were quite warm and welcoming, the Asipa explaining more about the traditional setup as well as some of their notable festivals. The palace of the Olowu (king), I later found out, is visible from the top of Olumo Rock.
