The Centenary Hall at Ake, Abeokuta is a historic building that was opened in 1930 in commemoration of a centenary’s celebration of the Egba people. It’s architectural style is not definitive but it takes cue from Neo-Classical architecture with arches that feature keystones, large Tuscan pediments, a plain tympanum, semi circle window beneath the tympanum atop the main entrance. There are photos of previous Alakes in the hall and there’s an elegant wrought iron staircase at the stage side that is interestingly still in its pristine look. You should spend just a few minutes here and visit the Alake’s Palace across and the historic St. Peter’s Church a few meters from it. There’s not much to offer if you don’t have proper context of the history of the building and you are enthusiastic about historic architecture. You would need to tip the staff there.

Centenary hall. Historical building that holds a lot of history inside. Fascinating impresarios. It is located at the southern part of Abeokuta. And directly opposite Ake Palace (the kingdom of the highest monarch in Egbaland). Now used as a court of adjudication.

The structure is still in good shape but needs some maintance. The hall is dated 1830 it has always been used for meetigs and other events. Till today according to the people we met there it can still be rented out. It has a main stage and serveral stairways leading to the second level. The Main hall area has pictures of the accient traditional rulers and Oba's mother hanging on the wall.

A historic place indeed. The small but interesting stage won my interest.

A building of historical significance but poorly maintained, and defaced by posters. A turn off through and through.

I read about the centenary Hall while I was going through the story of Abeokuta/Egba on the internet. The Centenary Hall is not just an ordinary Hall but it's symbolic. This hall according to the available historical material, is built by the white , years before now. Not so far from the Hall location is the first Church in Nigeria. While Opposite the Hall is the Palace. The out Look of the Centenary tell you about it long existence and the strength -quality. If you find yourself in Abeokuta and youve not seen or probably touch the centenary Hall. I suggest your visitation is incomplete, you have to revisit.

This is the first hall built in Nigeria. It has a very good structure with some historical artifacts. However, the maintenance of the building is poor evidenced untidiness and accumulated dust in some parts of it over years. The building is grossly underutilized.

It was just OK... Requires a full clean up with AC. Those long fans used in churches of old don't cut it anymore

A wonderful heritage site but unfortunately, I didn't see any traces of maintenance to keep the structure solid and befitting for tourist attraction except for the exterior yellow painting. From my understanding, it's a celebratory hall built in 1930 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of Abeokuta city in 1830. I love the concept behind it and the structure stands alone with relics and portraits of past influential leaders of the egbaland on display along the walls of the hall.

We were going to Centenary Hall Plaza in Sagamu and erroneously inputted Centenary Hall Abeokuta. That's how we ended up here. Lol! I took the opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of Abeokuta. This hall looked unkempt on the outside. No parking space within it. There were a few men sitting on the stairs gisting. More like miscreants/homeless. They looked 'friendly' though. I got to find out this place is supposed to be a historical spot.
