I have never met a restaurant owner who is out & out racist. The food was ok but the way it was served was disgusting. Even the staff has to imitate the owner. Very bad service. 2 German gentlemen were sent off because of how they looked. They were very upset. When we left the restaurant I swore that I’ll never return. I don’t know why he hates Germans & Ethiopians. Why is he existing in Ethiopia?

Excellent Italian food and good service. For entree you can choose from a selection of salads and cold cuts then you can order a main from menu. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options.

Went to Castelli's because we heard they make their own pasta and was greeted by the least welcoming person in Ethiopia. We ordered calamari and roasted vegetables for appetizer. The roasted vegetables were great and we could have used marinara sauce with the calamari. The rest of the food was bland and the stake was over cooked, but now we can say we had their pasta. The servers seemed tense, but considering how we were welcomed, it may be the culture of the house.

Their food, they stick to the basics. We tried three different pastas with truffle, gorgonzola, and ham. Homemade pasta, the pasta itself -noodle- is excellent and the cream sauce is bit too buttery for me to finish everything, but savory for sure. Tried different Italian restaurants in Addis, this is the place for a creamy pasta:)

Apparently this is a must try if you are ever in Addis Ababa. I got the fettuccine with truffle sauce..a mixed salad and the icecream chocolate vanilla swirl. Salad was subpar and not very fresh..pasta was delicious and creamy..dessert was great although I wanted tiramisu but they were out of it. Pricing not bad by US standards. Service can definitely be improved and not taking credit cards Is an inconvenience but overall 8/10

A real unique slice of Italy in Addis. Great ambience, gorgeous wood paneling, perfect spoken Italian by the waiters. Can you get a cheaper meal in Addis, absolutely. But for Italian food this is better value than you'll find anywhere except for maybe the small Abruzzo town I think the restaurant claims it's roots from. My waiter Volvo (adopted name) was delightful, the evening moved at a calm pace. The truffle fettuccine was delicious and the verdure to start were remarkably filling.

We came with a large group and they did the best they could to accommodate us without a reservation. The pasta was very fresh and the server at the table was attentive. We waited over an hour for our entrees. The front desk cashier/manager could be more kind and welcoming. Was hoping for better tasting Italian as it came highly recommended. Not terrible but not great. In a very busy, congested area. No parking.

Great menu, wanted to love the food(although it was served cold, an hour after ordering during a off period with barely anyone in the restaurant), and unacceptable service that really left me questioning whether it was actually possible to pull the race card whilst in Africa.

This is a cozy Italian restaurant around the Adwa Victory memorial in Piassa. Quite a glorious sight driving in when we went as the fountain was on and there were crowds, which makes the place even more memorable and worth getting to. We went there twice and there are a few highlights; the ambience is definitely that of an Italian restauarant, basic but quite aligned on how an Italian place should look like. First day we were walk-ins, but second day we had reservations. The foyer has photos of all VIPs who have patronized the restaurant, and there are plenty including Thabo Mbeki and Brad Pitt.🤗🤗 Food; I enjoyed the beef fillet steak with cream and mushrooms and the fettucinne pasta with truffle sauce, my partner also really enjoyed his fish. The salad was the worst ever and the french fries also horrid and we did not try dessert So stick to the Italian cuisine I guess. Not much Italian wine stock which is disappointing, but it is what it is. Service: fairly acceptable, but we had small issues like glass not being soo clean, and having to wipe, food handling as well might need some improvement. Service charge not included and the waiters remind you without fail. Yes, I would still go back again and again!!!!

It is one of the oldest Italian restaurants in Addis. Go and have a test of history. Food is delicious. It's very busy, so have reservation ahead of time.

After reading reviews on Google & TripAdvisor, I visited Castelli's keeping my expectations rather low. But boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise?! Despite not reserving a table for lunch, I was welcomed with warm smiles and hospitality second to none! ☺️ The service I received was top-notch and the food delicious! For starters I chose the salad buffet, my main course was the Fettuccine Gorgonzola which was cooked to perfection and for dessert, the luscious Cioccolata Calda! 😋 The bread they offer is by far the softest I've ever eaten and even the butter I asked for was served in palatial fashion! This restaurant has been such an institution in Addis since 1957 and should feature on your itinerary for sure!

The owner and his family are idiots. We are surprised that they let them run a resto in Addis. These people should be thrown out of Ethiopia. Rude and shameless

Excellent experience with authentic and genuine Italian cuisine in a very classic and spotless dining room. We had a mix of antipasti that were simply perfect. We then shared 3 different types of pasta who were simply perfectly cooked and prepared. Particularly good were the pasta with safron sauce and the linguini with squid ink. Dessert were also very good.

As prices have already risen More or less 50% in 12 months it seem obvious that Castelli is but a shadow of its former glory. Uninspired offerings served by staff that have a similar attitude.

It was an average experience all together. I remember this restaurant having amazing food. But our experience mid January 2024 was not great. Most of our orders had way too much salt and the servers were not happy to hear our comments. But they were polite and pleasant.

I love this restaurant because of its authentic atmosphere and its interior. The food is good and the waiters are in general very friendly. I have visited this restaurant many times and will most likely go again during my next visit to Addis. However there are two things that make me hesitate: the grumpy, unfriendly Italian cashier lady (owner) and the extremely high prices. The prices on the menu do not include VAT which adds another 15%, also service is not included. I paid more than 60 USD per person for two starters and a pasta, no wine only water, no dessert! In Rome, Paris or London I can find this for less than half the price, and I would at least get a friendly smile when paying the bill

Been a few times for lunch..always a good time..friendly old waiter, a chat with the owner etc. Then once tried dinner..very different scene..lots of tourists, and waiters aggressively asked for a larger tip then I left. Seriously? Maybe that's the Tuesday night scene, but was bad service on top. We asked for olive oil, not a crazy request at an Italian restuarant..waiter comes, gives us each 3 or 4 drops and takes the bottle away...eventually may go back, but just for lunch..but first 5 or 6 better Italian alternatives out there, imo

What can I say about this place that hasn't been said? It's an institution in the heart of Addis Ababa. Really high quality Italian food with fresh ingredients. The owners are old school Italians who have resided here most of their lives. Definitely not a casual place for a quick meal, much better to come for a special occasion.

The food was ok. I enjoyed the truffle fettuccine. I was not blown away but still a good meal for the price you pay. The ravioli my partner ordered seemed like it was frozen and then reheated.

It’s one of the oldest yet legendary restaurants in addis, it’s found in Piassa the city’s oldest town. The place is usually closed and mostly entered with reservations. I don’t like the fact that it’s a very uptight place but since it’s a legendary place they should keep it that way. Visit this amazing restaurant you will find it next to muhamed musics bet Piassa. The interior is old and can use some repairs but if they want to keep the old vibe. I don’t think they should. Ethiopian airlines is a partners of the restaurant and usually people that stay there are like tourists and other travelers. Other restaurants like tayitu and wetuma is an option when you are around Piassa.

The test of the food has not changed; one good thing; But the price and the service given has completely gone very high and down respectively!!! Which is very unreasonable regardless of everything including portion. We(me and my hubby)used to go there almost every week before the COVID but yesterday when we happened to go there after corona we were really disappointed. 😒😒😒
