A statue was erected to Menelik II in 1930 at Menelik square in Addis Ababa. It was designed and made by German Architect Curtin Specingler and unveiled in 1931. The message on the statue reads: "It is not greatness to hail from a prominent family, greatness (triumph) is to contribute something valuable to the motherland." The message is clearly written to portray the victory of blacks over white opressors--it shows that the color of skin does not make one race superior and another inferior. Aba Dagnew was Menelik's horse's name. And it stands on its two legs and face to the north--to signify the direction of the battle field. The place Menelik II Square, formerly Adawa square, was dedicated to erect the statue owing to its location as downtown of the city during the time, Addis Ababa City Administration Culture and Tourism Bureau Intangible Heritages Senior Expert Memhir Mekibib Gebremariam indicates. Generally, Menelik II statue and Adwa Bridge, around Megenagna, are among the known memorials of the victory of Adwa in Addis Ababa. Memhir Mekibib underlines the fact that Addis ought to see more memorials to inherit the sprites to posterity and demonstrate the history to visitors. I share a little you should visit and see our history.

Menelik II Square is located in the heart of Addis Ababa, the area locally known as Arada. At the center of the square stands a magnificent equestrian statue of the Emperor. The monument was erected by Emperor Haile Selassie I, in 1930, just before his coronation. The center of this square is considered "ground zero" of the highways of the Nation: The distance markers on all the major highways of Ethiopia mark their location from the base of the monument.

Ethiopia is the ONLY uncolonized country in Africa. Thanks to our fathers! Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taytu are heroes for all Africans. Like the legendary singer Teddy Afro said "I wouldn't be who I am if it wasn't for them". The battle of Adewa! The freedom for all Africans.

Emperor Menelik II was one of Ethiopia’s greatest leaders, ruling as King and Emperor of Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913. He is a National Hero who gave Ethiopians the freedom and identity we are enjoying. He was married three times and he had no children with his wives, but several other children by other women that he recognized. He died in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on December 12, 1913 at the age of 69. His statue was erected in Addis Ababa in memory of the battle of Adowa. This was the only major battle in the history of Africa, when Emperor Menelik and his army defeated the Italian army.

(Translated by Google) I am Korean in Korea. I can not find an Ethiopian government agency and write it here. On June 25, 1950, North Korea invaded Korea (South Korea) and occupied Seoul for three days. After less than a month, it occupied 90% of South Korea. At that time, not only a general soldier in Ethiopia, but also the emperor elite troops, with the UN, rescued Korea from the threshold of communism. To be more grateful, the Ethiopian soldiers paid for orphans in Korea for orphans whose name is unknown. Thanks to it, after the truce, Korea stood up again and achieved a remarkable economic development, but now Ethiopia has sent military forces to Korea and heard that it is currently suffering civil war (?). Thank you very much. thank you. It is time for us to help. Thank you to all those who have been shed for Korea. Equestrian statue of Emperor Menelik (elegantly stands on the heart of Menelik II Square, which itself is nucleus of Addis Ababa), was erected by Emperor Haile Sellasie in 1930 just a day before his coronation. This symbolic statute was put up with rationale of honoring the victory of Adwa. Respect for our grandfathers!

I took a cabin near the airport, and I took a taxi to the nearest place by using the city railway. (Translated by Google) Large circular square in the city center and an important traffic junction. In the evening the confusion subsides and you can admire the large statue of San Giorgio on horseback. The square is close to the Cathedral of San Giorgio and right on the side of the Church a large green area makes the place more pleasant, perhaps stopping on a bench to observe the characteristic comings and goings of local people, all always very kind. La piazza è vicina alla Cattedrale di San Giorgio e proprio sul lato della Chiesa un'ampia zona verde rende il luogo più piacevole, magari sostando su una panchina per osservare il caratteristico viavai di gente locale, sempre tutti molto gentili.
