This is one massive place where one can take the dog off the leash and let it run miles in both open areas, and trails that lead absurdly everywhere and over to various cliffs, followed by a choice between some very steep (lined with safety ropes from tree to tree) to moderately steep decents. The river has a good current and runs until it's extremely cold, and the banks that line it are great. Some banks are sand filled, others just trails. Wear your winter boots or gripped boots for sure. If it's warm out you'll be muddy. It's well worth the walk. Give yourself 90 minutes minimum to have a proper experience. The creek is called dufferens creek and it runs through many conserved areas.

The authority maintaining this conservation area and preserving wildlife deserves applause. The exuberant foliage during summer and autumn is simply astonishing. Proudly located at the centre of the city this park has countless species of flowers, bugs, birds, fishes. No reservation is required and no parking fee charged. The place is not just an attraction due to hiking and trailing but also good spot for a friends and family picnic. Few trails are up to 10 kms and there are too many to explore, if you are energetic enough you can spend 6-8 hours. Have your food and water supplies in plenty and reach on time to avoid parking struggle during weekends, definitely coming back during autumn. Just a tip Pickering museum village is located nearby and is open.

Amazing place for hiking with several hiking trails with different trail level. This place is surrounded by nature and wood, my family and me enjoyed it a lot. In addition have a good parking space and a lovely kiosks and picnic area. Have all you need to pass a summer day in peaceful and far from the noisy city.

When I visited on a weekday afternoon, the free parking lot was quite crowded but still managed to find a space. There are a few trails of varying difficulty (easy to moderate). Nice place to spend an afternoon.

This conservation area is a mix of paved trails, forest trails, open spaces and picnic areas. Trails are well labeled according to difficulty and are well marked so you don't get lost. One can also go fishing for salmon during the salmon run season, late summer and early fall.

Dog leash free trail. Some parts are very challenging.

Great trails, much on paved, wide spaces with smaller bush trails as offshoots ranging from 1.5 km's to 4km's. The lookout is quite spectacular over a deep ravine with beautiful fall foliage and a wooden bridge at the base as a focal point. Ample parking at the entrance where visitors are greeted by a grand wood carving standing more than 25 ft. high. Certainly enjoyed our 1st visit to Greenwood and planning to return. This winter, we will try snowshoeing. Great spot for birding and photography with spectacular views.

Greenwood as a conservation area is great. The lands are well managed and contain a nice range of biomes. But what really sets it apart are the off-leash dog features. It is the only place I have found anywhere nearby where you can truly let your dog run free. The only thing lacking is proper trail signage. If it's your first time attending I might suggest a compass as the winding paths make it easy to get turned around. Although, once you get a handle on the area it is a truly great place!

It was a good place for hiking as it has various hiking trails and the hiking trail level is "easy". The best place about this area is surrounded by nature and wood, so if you're a nature person this is a good gateway for hiking. Furthermore, it has spacious and free parking. In addition to this, it is suitable for group-age kids. Lastly, if you have a drone, it is a good place to fly a drone and capture some great nature pictures.

Very large conservation area for hiking. See one of my photos for the map. This is the West entrance parking lot. Lots of dogs as it is an off leash dog park. You can spend hours and hours here. If you hike in far enough, you will hit the river. You may see salmon running in the fall. Very clean. Don't forget what you take in please bring out. No garbage cans inside the park, but in the parking lot there is.

The best conservation area in the Durham region, there is parking although a little limited, inside the park there are a bunch of paths for hikers of varying levels, theres a main trail that is paved and gazebos with seating close to washrooms. There are also play areas for younger kids to play! You owe it to yourself to swing by if you live in the area!

For a conservation area within a big city, it's quiet and has some decent trails for winter hikes. Some hills can be treacherous with ice, but if you are set for an adventure that just adds to the fun. Recommend for a casual winter walk or for families looking to get out.

Beautiful conservation area with enough trails. There is a 'bowl' where dogs can be let off leash, which is great 🐕 Went down to the river and it's absolutely beautiful. There are a few ways to get down and worth the views by the water. I read there are salmon that swim upstream in the summer time - will be back to check it out. Recommended for hiking, day out, sledding and bringing your dog (off leash only works if your dog's trained, not enclosed like dog parks) 🌞

If you love nature this is the place. But plenty of mosquito . Watch for downstream river steep. One can easily fall

Gave it a 4/5 solely because the maintenance of the trails/ signage needs some work. Other than that, what a great way to spend a beautiful sunny fall day then trekking through some wonderful trails. There was a number of different trails and routes you could take along the way. Each one unique in there own way. I would say on average the trail could last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hrs.

Wonderful place to walk and breeze in and out the fresh air. The trails are devised according to the level of activity that you are going to perform.

Great place to go hiking but gets very busy on the weekends. Get there early or you will have to park on the road.

I absolutely love walking here. Highly recommend the walk along the River. Being able to walk my dogs off leash is a really nice feature as well.

👍👍 Parked at the Rotary Park Pavilion, went to the west, passed through the elevated boardwalk. Once got to the west side of the boardwalk, followed a small path to the water.
