I got a referral to UNM neurology in June of 2020. I called multiple times and was told that they would be getting back to me, they did not. I had an appointment with neurosurgery in September and when I complained about the difficulties I was having making an appointment with neurology and they told me they would expedite the process. I received a phone call the following day from a nurse telling me that they would be contacting me to set up an appointment. I waited another month until October 2020 and called again and was told that they had sent four messages to people who should have been setting up my appointment and nobody had bothered to get back to them. I'm used to awful communication and customer service from hospitals but this takes the cake.

UPDATE: I got the additional testing done and was then told they would not take new patients. Got the testing done for nothing. Thanks for the lack of help! Boo!! This rating may change once I can actually get an appointment, but it seems that seeing a specialist after having a significant health event should not require additional testing prior to the appointment, but should be part of the appointment. It is very disheartening to be told that my health concerns are not their concerns.

My wife was scheduled for back surgery on 5/2/22. We got to the hospital at 5:30 as we were told. We sat and waited for over 3 hours. She called her doctors office and was told the surgery was cancelled because the preauthorization was delayed due to the doctor's notes only being sent to insurance on Friday 4/29. They offered to reschedule next week. My wife works for the state as an attorney. It is very difficult to get a week off. She will not be having the surgery with this doc, nor at this hospital. Completely rude and professional.

I'm in their ccm clinic and because my doctor left I now how to wait 3 months to continue care. When I had my neurosurgery consult recently I had to wait in office for over 2 hours to be seen and then he tried to rush me out the door. My epileptologist was out of touch with me for over 5 months and I couldn't even get in contact with her to refill medication. How is this hospital a center of excellence for angiomas???

Itโ€™s impossible to get an appointment with neuropsychiatrist Dr. Davin Quinn. I had a referral for Dr Quinn since August 2022. My referral was bounced around so many times with total disregard for my person since then. Itโ€™s now November 8, 2022 and they say I need to have another referral sent to the UNM Neurology Department for Dr. Quinn. Itโ€™s so disappointing and disrespectful of the UNM Neurology Department.

I have had the worst experience so far. My referral was sent a month ago and I have still not received a call for scheduling yet. A month to review a referral that is crazy. I expect more from this hospital, now I'm not so sure I should be treated here.

I tried in good faith to become established here for 6 months. I got zero communication from them. Every time I called to check on the process, they told me I needed something new. I dutifully got them what they needed. Last time I called, they told me they needed more time to go over the records and see if they had everything they need. Now they tell me my referral has been cxld due to not getting it done in 4 wks, even though I checked on the process every 1-2 wks. Now I am out of meds and have no way to get more. I cannot speak to the care you get here, because the intake was so disorganized that I never saw a neurologist. Just don't even try to get established here.

I have been diagnosed with a brain tumor and was immediately referred to UNM Neurology. The receptionist, schedulers, Doctors, literally everyone have been so kind and understanding. It's a stressful situation and I have been met with nothing but kindness and efficiency. They call when they say they will and always do their best. Im so fortunate to have been referred here. These are the best of the best!

It took me two years to get an appointment with specialist. My Dr sent referral a few times to this department and every time I inquired when I will see specialist I got different answers like two Dr cannot decide who will take my case, then they donโ€™t have my Dr chart notes, then a referral expired. My Dr said he sent to them everything they needed. Every time I called their office I heard giggling in background. Itโ€™s very hard for them to pick up phone and make call doctors office. After two years of struggling I requested to talk to patient advocate and finally I got an appointment. Nobody in this office cares about patients. But just look your tax bill how much you pay UNM. And this giggling office get paid from your wallet.

It is really and truly frustrating as a referring provider trying to deal with any of the UNM outpatient specialists. No one seems to bother reading the clinical notes, PT evaluations, diagnoses/summaries, and imaging attached to referrals, and when calling to discuss the referral and clarify why their denial request is wrong (wanting specialist evaluation on unrelated organ system, requested information already included with the referral, etc) there is no help whatsoever. If at all possible, avoid referring to UNM because they will waste yours and the patient's time.

Great care!!! Knowledgeable and experienced staff. I do not have the complaints like some folks on this forum have posted. I have been seen at the clinic for 4 years. Dr. Ford was my first physician and is very smart and helpful when we first dialed in a treatment and medication. Later, Dr. Barrett picked me up as a patient and was phenomenal. He and Dr. Aragon were there for much of my recovery and also helped me identify a change medications, reducing the fog, pain, and many other side effects experienced due to the initial therapy drug chosen.p

I just had my first encounter with the Neurology Center and was pleasantly surprised. Everyone was very professional and courteous. They actually listened to me and answered my questions when they could.

I have been trying for three months to get an appointment with a neurologist in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. in April, UNM scheduled me for October 10 - the earliest of any hospital, clinic, etc. they put me on the wait list in the event of cancelations. I received two calls one the past month from the Neurology Dept to update me with no good news. Yesterday I got a call and thy found a time for me this week. the scheduler has always been extremely pleasant and had excellent "bed-side manners." Kudos to you all at the center.

I just called to check on my son's apt time & date. Lin unfortunately answered & left me on hold continuously. She was very unprofessional & threaten to disconnect on me when I called her out for putting me on hold over and over again with no assistance. She wanted me to call the call center instead. Then she proceeded to give me false information, I had to escalate the call and speak to a manager. This is the second time something like this has happened while calling. The Dr & the nurses are amazing but not so much on the admin/clerical side.

Unlike all the other services I've received at UNMH, these docs are awful! Zero compassion or communication skills. One even lied about me in his clinic notes. No way will I ever go back.
