I would reiterate everything that was already mentioned in others' one star reviews. You've probably come across this place online because their website ranks at the top of Google search results for relevant keywords, indicating strong SEO performance. But don't be fooled by the website, or positive reviews (some of whom I suspect are bots). This place did not meet expectations at all whatsoever. Customer service was extremely poor. It is blatantly obvious that management doesn't care about guest's experience or comfort at Northumberland Heights. I'd hardly call it a spa, and certainly wouldn't call it a retreat. No activities, nothing to do except for yoga once per day at 10am, and you have to request meals in advance so the chef "knows you want food". I checked out a night early. That's how bad it was. I've been to other spas in the past, and thought to try something new here. I regret it. Waste of time and money. I do not recommend this place at all.

I recently stayed here with a few girlfriends and we were severely disappointed. Trying to contact them and communicate pre- stay was not easy, as the phone reception was extremely spotty and it had to resort to communicating over email only. Their facility as a spa is not as it seems from the website and what they promote. The sauna doesn’t fit more than 3 people comfortably. The steam room was out of order and they had no plans on when it would be fixed. There were 3 hot tubs, 1 wasn’t working, 1 had a disgusting film on the top, the 3rd one worked but only 2 jets were working. When I go to a spa it is about the experience and relaxation of disconnecting. There was nothing going on so we spent the entire day/afternoon in our room. The afternoon tea was sub par and a lot of dry and tasteless pieces. Dinner was decent, however if included in the spa package does not include the steak and you have to pay extra. Additionally, we were notified 2 days prior that there was a planned power outage, which then changed breakfast to be a serve your own continental setup rather than order off menu. When asked for some sort of compensation or voucher for this, it was refused and we were told that our experience would not be impacted. I would not recommend this place to anyone and after spending $1300 for 3 people for one night was not worth the money at all.

We showed up and were greeted to our room. Not until then were we told it was the room specific for customers who need wheelchair accessible facilities. Not what we booked. We asked for another room and we’re told they had none so we tried to settle and look forward to the amenities of the property. Our room was filthy. The bathroom had old dirt and hair everywhere. The bathtub was for wheelchair access and didn’t even work. The steam shower also was dirty and we couldn’t use it as the fans were broke. When we spoke to the management about our concerns we were told we should have complained at check in. Which we did?!? Staff was very friendly and services were ok. but we will never recommend this place to anyone. Was a giant waste of money. Don’t make the mistake we did. Not worth $$$! We have been to many Spa retreats and I have never left a bad review. This place was an experience. Never again.

I brought my mom here for the Day Spa package, as we were hoping to try a new spa in the area and had heard good things. Unfortunately for the price, it did not meet expectations. The steam room in the women’s locker room was broken on the day we arrived, which was a disappointment. We did not get any advance notice or discount for loss of use of the steam room. The yoga class was lovely, and the instructor was accommodating, but the many windows in the room made the temperature uncomfortably hot. The treatments were adequate, but there was poor selection. About 3 hours we arrived, we were told one of the products used in the Anti-Aging Mousse treatment would not be available, and my mom had to select another treatment. The food and drinks were good, but it was a little disconcerting to see prices on the menu of an “all-inclusive” spa. Also, it would have been nice to have coffee and tea options in the lounge for guests to enjoy. Lastly, there were a number of hidden charges that added to the advertised price and just made the experience distasteful for the value. Overall I would not recommend my family or friends to come to this spa.

We booked a 3-night stay here for our anniversary. It was a disappointing experience. The staff were all nice and friendly, but there were so many miscommunications and unmet expectations. We booked the couple's package, which was supposed to include a 3-course dinner for each night. We were told on the first night at dinner that this had changed to just one entree each. We were then told on the second night at dinner that there was a $5 surcharge on the steak. The service itself was also inconsistent - servers don't ask if we want salt, pepper, ketchup, sugar/milk, etc. One server misidentified the food in the high tea set. The package was supposed to include a complimentary product worth $75, but at check-out, the staff member had no idea what we were talking about. There was no acknowledgement either that we were celebrating an anniversary - I'd expect something small, even a token, as part of the customer service. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth. It was a shame that our anniversary had to be spent at a place like this. I would say that anyone who chooses to stay here should be very careful and ask lots of questions, because what is communicated is not what you're going to get.

I feel weird of giving this rating. The room was spacious and everything looks wonderful and peaceful, environment can be rated 9 out of 10. I am a detailed a person though so I usually check the bed first, I found multiple pieces hair from different people! White hair short dark curly hair, you won’t see if you don’t use a flashlight. Clean bed is the most basic thing for a hotel/motel , I am very sad to say I love how everything looks but you need to clean the bed and change sheets

My boyfriend and I just celebrated our 6 year anniversary at Northumberland Heights and we’re so happy with our stay. The location is great, the people are beyond wonderful, and the Xperience restaurant is to die for. At check in, Mary Lou graciously upgraded our room upon learning that it was our anniversary. We then went down to the spa and received the most wonderful and professional massages. It was by far the most relaxing experience I’ve ever had. Our overnight package included all meals, so all we had to do was show up for our reservations and enjoy the lovely view and great food. Our room was stunning, as is the rest of the building. The decor is cohesive throughout, with lots of gorgeous dark wood and gold accents. It is impossible not to feel not only relaxed, but taken care of at Northumberland Heights. Thank you all so much!

Day one of our spa weekend! Check in went smoothly and all the staff have been fantastic, especially Mary Lou at the front desk! We weren't sure what to expect from our first Ayurveda treatment but it was fantastic and very relaxing. Food has been excellent and our server is lovely. Our only suggestion so far would be a shuttle service into town as we took the train to Cobourg. Looking forward to a weekend of relaxation!

Amazing food (and large portions), very comfy beds, great spa services, and skilled technicians. Hot tubs are perfect. Yoga was fabulous, with an excellent instructor (one of the Heathers). Complimentary cab fare to and from Via Rail was a great touch!!! Sauna could be much hotter though, and sauna/steam room instructions in general could be more clear. Needs a fire pit for cooler evenings. Scheduling was a bit difficult ahead of time, but was quickly sorted out when we arrived.

It is one the best hotel spa resort near Toronto. Perfect place for having relaxing away from busy stressful life in Toronto. Steam room, outdoor jetted bathtub, and breakfast were really good. Morning Yoga class in outdoor was awesome. Our room was very spacious, we had jetted bathtub in the room as well which was very good. Staff were really nice. I really suggest this resort

(My relaxation place)! If you’re looking to spend a day (maybe couple of days) to have “me-time” or with your partner, this is a marvellous place! They have everything to make you feel calm and relaxed! Everywhere smells nice and extremely CLEAN! Food at their restaurant was delicious ( maybe give 15min extra time for it to become ready)! Steam sauna, dry sauna, outdoor jacuzzi, foot massage and massage chair! Can’t wait to go back!

This is my second year coming for a spa day courtesy of my workplace. The service here is amazing. The environment is peaceful and welcoming. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The lunch menu provides great options and the food is delicious. I can’t wait to come back again!

I can't express enough how much I enjoyed my one night stay here. It was the BEST place I've stayed at in Ontario. I booked it at the last minute just because it was so reasonably priced so I didn't expect much. The staff were amazing, the restaurant - WOW - it was my birthday and the server went out of his way to make me an amazing dessert. I felt so at home. The grounds are instagram-worthy every time you turn around. I didn't try out the spa - didn't plan ahead but wished I had - WOW. Fountains, ponds, nature walks, hot tubs, WOW WOW WOW.

Spend the night here with my family and we all had the most amazing experience ever. The food tastes delicious and fresh. Their butter chicken is so authentic.... Must try! It's a beautiful spa to rejuvenate and relax. Will definately visit again.

Don’t waste your money or your time. The day spa package was advertised as “$100 off” . Falsely advertised as it was $100 off cause they didn’t include everything the package consisted of The steam room wasn’t working and “hasn’t been for a while” The sauna smelt bad Our massages were scheduled during yoga so we couldn’t even attend yoga The place in general was pretty dirty Ran out of sizes for the track suits Our itinerary said lunch on it which we actually didn’t get and when I asked about it and mentioned how it’s confusing I was told “it’s not confusing” very rudely … by whom I can only assume is the manager who then had an attitude towards the other staff members (the lady at the front desk was lovely) In all we over paid for a short massage and sat around waiting for high tea…. We won’t be back I do not recommend this place, just go somewhere else where you get your moneys worth

Such a beautiful venue and the staff are so friendly and accommodating. Always willing to go the extra mile to provide exemplary service. Overlooking the stunning hills of Northumberland county, Northumberland Heights is a lovely place to stay, book your wedding or event and while you’re there be sure to check out the restaurant. The food is top notch !

I stayed with a group of six friends for one night and overall we were disappointed with our stay. There were many shortcomings but my biggest complaint is the lack of customer service. Our check in was rushed and borderline rude, there was a power outage which is out of their control but there was no offer of a discount or a complimentary drink or anything, we were just told to reschedule which isn’t exactly easy for a group of six. The first spa treatment in our group was at 10 AM but they closed for lunch because we “didn’t let them know ahead of time” that we’d want lunch, we ended up having to order pizzas to the spa. The hot tubs were all in need of maintenance, the sauna only fit 3 people, and the steam room was out of service so there was virtually nothing for us to do except sit in our room. My massage was very nice and dinner was tasty but for us the price point is unjustified for the amenities received.

My girlfriend and I spend one night at Northumberland heights wellness retreat and spa and we had the most amazing relaxing experience. The food, spa treatments and overall experience were outstanding. We are very impressed by our time there and will for sure be coming back. I strongly recommend the high tea. The tea itself coupled with the savoury and sweet flavours from the pastries were our of this world. The facility offers hot tubs, amazing hike trails and a beautiful scenery. It is for sure a jewel close to the city!!!

So, you will see from the photos I posted that I really loved the food! I should have snapped a pic of the high tea as well which was a gorgeous highlight to the middle of each day. Services (spa) that I booked, included the hot stone massage, brightening facial and body scrub. The yoga classes each morning at 10am made for an incredible start to the day. I came here completely tapped and needed to be quiet and on my own for a few days. That was achieved! There are plenty of spaces to find your own time. There are quaint water features throughout the site and the hiking trails are wonderful too and right on site. I loved that they are mapped out for you. The service was exceptional. Recalling Jazz, Danny and Mary Lou specifically but everyone was wonderful. I'll see you again.. likely this winter!

The hotel was not what we expected, expensive and not well taken care of. Some staff members great and others unwilling to do the bare minimum. No water pressure and hot tubs were never filled. We came for a retreat but there was literally NOTHING TO DO! Sorry for the experience, the only good thing is the restaurant, tasty Indian food.

We had a great experience and would stay again! The resort is very clean and the property is very nice and well kept. There are lots of trails for walking or use one of their bikes, or just sit back and relax. The food is great, the spa services were great and the rooms were cozy. All of the staff were very friendly and provided excellent service.

My experience at Northumberland height spa and retreat was very relaxing. I took a two night package which include Breakfast, high tea and dinner. Spa voucher for 200 dollars. The resort was very quiet and not busy and that was one of the things i love about the resort. The food was great. I had no complaints. I really enjoy the spa treatment. I thought it was nice they provide you with loung e wear to take home. Over all i had a great time and i would go back again

I can’t say enough about the many great attributes of this place. Take time to take in the view of Lake Ontario from the upper deck of the main part of the hotel. Each room has a view over the horizon too. Enjoy the serenity of sitting in the many places set up all over the property to allow you to take it all in. Walk the trails. Check out the spa services offered here. They are unique and not available in many, many places. From the time you arrive to when you leave the service is friendly and welcoming. No pretence. And the greatest thing about this place is the chef and her amazing meals. If there is a food critic out there reading this you need to meet the chef and sample her cuisine. I am not a foodie and very particular. She is so very talented. Thanks to all of you for your kindness.

My friend and I stayed here for 1 night, it was our first time at The Northumberland Heights Wellness Retreat & Spa. The service has been incredible since the minute we checked in, following by our delicious and savoury lunch. The property and its beautiful and well maintained landscapes are the perfect scenery for relaxation. We strongly recommend “The High Tea” with their three tiers of delicious sweets. Treatments are very recommended as well. Thanks so much to the entire staff for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable.

My mother and I stayed at northhumberland spa for one night in June. It was outstanding. The facility is clean and beautifully decorated. The spa treatments were well done and the products used were top notch. The rooms are huge and comfortable. The food was outstanding. A great assortment of food. The service was excellent. The staff goes above and beyond.

Had a 2 night package getaway and loved every bit of our stay! Very relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful staff. Delicious food; the breakfast, high tea and dinner were included on our package. Delaney and Shawna in the restaurant were so lovely. Heather lead yoga every morning with a view. The dry sauna and steam sauna were nice. We also indulged in some spa services that were a lovely touch on a relaxing stay. Thank you everyone!

I went here for a girls weekend in April and it was wonderful. The food was amazing. Everything I ate was delicious but the afternoon tea was my favourite. I had a facial done by Chutikan and she was so sweet and professional, as was everyone else who works here. The rooms were spacious and updated. The hot tubs were great. I also went to the free yoga class and really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it and hope to be back someday!
