The crowning glory of Amersfoort. This is a part of the old city I do not know of a paid tour. It is possible there is one but it would only be to go inside the rooms in the impressive gate. It is like Amersfoort a hidden gem. The locals appreciate this historic quarter. Even the trains that thunder past do not distract from the beautiful mesmerising place. I think this would have been the main water entrance to the city probability from the Old Zuider Zee. Wonder if my ancestors who where barge and boat owners visited. Trade then was strong and although Brexit has damaged that it still exists.

Love how well preserved the city fortress is, it gives me allllll the fairytale feels, I’m just going to stand here and wait for my prince charming to come galloping towards me on his trusty steed so if you happen to see me in my princess dress, do be a gentleman/lady and give me a bouquet 😌😍 princesses who live in medieval cities love that Amersfoort, the stuff fairytales are made out of

The most beautiful gate I’ve seen. The afternoon is a better time to take photos as the sun faces the front gate.

Picturesque city gate with a medieval vibe. Walking by the canals around Koppelpoort is a memorable experience.

The main gate of the medieval city of Amersfoort is an impressive sight. Sadly, the access to the fortification's interior is restricted. I'm giving only three stars because the overall experience was marred by the unpleasant smell emanating from the dirty water.

Beautiful city gate. Took a walk around town & stopped here for a bit. Historical town. Peaceful in the evening during weekdays. Worth a visit for sure

I walk or bicycle by this beautiful, centuries old double gateway (unique in Europe) weekly. It's worth visiting Amersfoort for this alone. There is much more to see... Btw, I live here. It is open during special holidays for visits or visit the VVV office for more information.

This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. It's magical when you enter to the center of Amersfoort with this view and then suddenly everything looks like you're in the middle age.

Its a very nice place, chill and beautiful scenery. Very good tourist attraction, for some tourist that rarely seen a street with bike. This place would be awesome to be an attraction or photoplace.

Koppelpoort is a 40 min drive away from Amsterdam. But so worth a visit. It has the most beautiful cathedral.

Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the city. The city has some pretty interesting history and the poort itself is pretty interesting to learn about.

Do you want to get into a fairy tale? It's real! Here is a place where you feel time differently, as if you are going back 300 years. Ideal place! Fabulous!

My wife and I live close by this gate and walk past it daily. It's a beautiful sight and when visiting Amersfoort, I recommend you to check it out.

Really nice people around the town with quite a lot to look at once there. Be careful as most shops we visited didn't take British credit or bank cards. It did rain a lot but hey, the Dutch can't always get everything right can they? Not as quaint as Bruges but seemed bigger, worth a trip if passing.

Lovely monument, it's a nice walk from the city centre and definitely something different from many dutch cities.

Although this is a 19th century reconstruction of howb it was thought the double gate originally looked, and a bit exaggerated in its gothicness as a consequence, it is a beautiful double gate for road and canal, with additional bridgework to also allow the 'singel'canal that routes the river Eem to round and exit the city. Nice spot for a selfie on the bike-foot bridge next to the railways.
