Nice touristy place next to downtown market. It’s well lit even after it closes down and has a big concrete area in front where people can sit/walk and have a good time. Dont miss the picture points as they offer a good view of the city.

(Translated by Google) The Roman Amphitheater is a Roman theater located in the eastern part of the Jordanian capital of Amman, specifically at the foot of the ... A Greek inscription on a pillar indicates that this amphitheater was built in honor of Emperor Madrianus, who visited Oman in 130 AD. It is located next to the Place de la Formation, with a total area of 7,600 m 2, probably dating back to the second century AD, specifically between 138 and 161 AD during the reign of Tsar Antonios Pius. Roman amphitheater used for musical and theatrical performances. Due to the quality of its sound system, it is sometimes used today for technical performances. The theater has 6,000 spectators, which is larger than the southern theater in Jerash, which can accommodate 4,000 to 5,000 spectators.

The stands are divided into 44 classes, in three main groups. I’d say this is a place you’d want to see while I’m Jordan. They allow you to climb the steep steps to the very top where there is a nice view and it makes for good pictures. Be careful, the steps are steep and smooth in places so they can be slippery. It’s a low moderate climb to the top, but if you get tired you can always just sit on the seat to the side of the steps. The Jordan Pass allows entry. Some areas smell like pee, and I didn’t see a toilet, which may explain the smell.

An amazing historical place, and you can climb the stairs of the Roman theater. At the top you can see the beautiful downtown of Amman. There is also a Folklore Museum on the first floor before entering the Roman Theater.

🔘The Roman Theatre in Amman🔘 ⚫Located in Amman , Jordan. ⚫The city was known as Philadelphia in the Roman period. ⚫The theatre was built during the reign of Antonius Pius (138-161 CE ), it could hold up to 6,000 people. ⚫Side entrances existed at ground level, one leading to the orchestra and the other to the stage. ⚫On the side of the stage, a small door opens to the Jordan Museum of Popular Traditions, in which dozens of ceramics, traditional Bedouin clothing, jewelry, and trinkets sit on display. ⚫Behind the theater is the remains of the Temple of Hercules sits on a hill.

Nice historical place to visit. There is a lot of police there, so it must be safe, but recommend be on the alert, as we face some aggressive young people nearby. Jordan pass is valid to get free access here.

Incredible site! Can be viewed from the citadel. I walked from there to here (took about 20 mins). Proof to what was here and the amazing history. Again, further disappointment that the people cannot look after what should be. Entry on Jordan Pass.

Beautiful Roman theater..take a yellow taxi or Uber to reach this beautiful architecture and it is close to the the Roman citadel . You have to pay 2 JD as a entry ticket for non Jordanian. Not so clean and tidy as I can see some of the people were not educated enough to keep that place clean .. people were sitting inside and eating their meals with some coffee and throwing thrash there it self .. however as a tourist you must visit this place ..

Nice historical site in the centre of Amman. The site has been heavily recovered and renovated over the years because of natural disasters such as earthquakes forced it into disrepair. There are two museums on site included in your price of admission, neither are particularly interesting or well-curated but it's worth going in there to cool down before attempting the steep, slippery ascent up to the top. It's a must-visit and well worth the price of admission.

The Roman Theater in Amman is an awe-inspiring testament to history and a must-visit for anyone exploring Jordan's rich heritage. From the moment you set foot in this ancient amphitheater, you're transported back in time to the grandeur of the Roman Empire. The sheer scale of the theater is breathtaking, with its well-preserved architecture offering a glimpse into the past. The seating tiers provide a perfect vantage point to admire not just the structure itself but also the panoramic views of Amman's vibrant cityscape. The historical significance resonates in every stone, and the informative signage helps unravel the story behind this marvel. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just someone seeking a cultural experience, the Roman Theater offers a captivating journey through time. Its location within the heart of Amman makes it easily accessible, and the surrounding area, with its charming cafes and shops, adds to the overall experience. It's a testament to Jordan's dedication to preserving its historical treasures. A visit to the Roman Theater is not just a touristic checkbox; it's an immersive encounter with the past that leaves you in awe of the ancient craftsmanship and the enduring legacy of Jordan's cultural heritage.

It’s clear that the site could benefit from more thorough cleaning and upkeep. The debris and litter detract from the overall beauty of the amphitheatre, and it is crucial that the space is treated with respect and maintained regularly to preserve its historical significance. Despite the need for improvement in upkeep, visiting the Roman Amphitheatre is still a must-do experience that should not be missed.

This is a place which you can expect in Jordan. It’s huge and beautiful with the views if you go on to the top. The steps are little steep so be careful with that. The tree is a museum which includes the entrance purchase ( no ticket needed for Jordan pass). This is a must go place in Amman. The market is also very close to this place, after visiting you can walk to the market and enjoy the shopping.

The "FEEL" is missing. Situated right in the middle of populated area of Amman is a Roman Amphitheatre. A stark reminder of ancient history of Amman and Jordan. It is like any other Roman Amphitheatre, may be a little smaller or bigger than some but location right in the middle of a 21st century thriving city and flooring of modern tiles robs it of the "feel" and ambience as is felt seeing the amphitheatre in an archaeological site. In its favour it can be said that it was very clean and well maintained

I am going through the photos and through my memories. That was a nice short stay in Amman, Jordan. I managed to see a bit of the city, and some places - like Roman Theater - impressed me significantly. And also the views: Amman is located at the hills, so you walk up and down all the time. And in some points, you can have breathtaking view, which looks like a picture, almost not realistic with the abundance of details. You come back to reality in a moment, as you breath in the spices-scented air, and touch the building walls, and hear the voices of people at street market, and see tourists with cameras... We saw a very ancient Roman Theater, the biggest in the Middle East, built in the 2 century. We saw the trees in bloom. We heard the noise of the city, and we walked its streets. And that was fun

This beautiful ancient amphitheater is located bang in the middle of Amman downtown surrounded by busy markets and packed residential areas. There's a different kind of energy here, especially in the evenings, with locals coming to spend time with their families and hanging around in the plaza opposite the theater. The structure itself is quite big and the views from the top of the "stairs" are amazing. There are some fine details here and there, like carvings and reliefs. There are 2 small museums at the bottom of the arena (both included in the Jordan Pass) that are pretty decent.

This Roma Theater, step back 2,000 years in time. The visit to the ruins of amphitheater was fascinating. It once held 5,000 spectators, and I was told it is still used today for theater and entertainment. Cascading layers of steps leading to the new age stage was a beautiful fusion of past with the present. A must visit place for any tourist.

Very cool place. I didn’t expect it to be so open to the public. If you visit Amman you should definitely visit the Roman Amphitheater.

Nice and traditional area. Staff is nice. Unfortunately it is quite dirty and there are rubbish everywhere. Some shops would be great so you could spend more time here and buy some suvenirs or drink a cup of tea

Second place, after Citadel, that you should visit in Amman is this Roman Theatre. It's not a big area, but very nice. Definitely recommend climb up to the walkway on the top of auditorium. The view from this place is amazing. And if you have Jordan Pass, the entry is free (included), of course. Enjoy your time. (visited: January 2023)

One of the wonderful historical sites in Amman, Jordan. A very impressive amphitheatre built into the rock face, opposite the citadel. There is a very nice guide who approaches you to tell you stories and myths about the theatre. Brilliant place to come right in centre of Amman. You can use your Jordan pass here to get in although we weren't asked for it. The theatre is now used as a venue for cultural activities including the Amman International Book Fair, the Amman Marathon prize ceremony, and musical concerts. I strongly recommend visiting this place if you are in Amman.

It is a stunning place. The view from the bottom, looking at the grand theatre, is amazing; somehow, the view from the top is even better. Some of the steps are quite high but most of them are normal height. They're not very slippery: however, comfortable and secure footwear is recommended to get to the top.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had an absolutely enchanting experience at the Roman Theater in Amman, Jordan! This historical gem is a must-visit for anyone exploring the fascinating city. The moment I set foot in the amphitheater, I was transported back in time, surrounded by rich Roman history and architecture. The sheer grandeur of the theater left me in awe. The well-preserved seating, the impressive stage, and the breathtaking views of Amman's cityscape made this visit truly unforgettable. As I wandered through the ancient stone rows, I could almost hear echoes of performances from centuries ago. The theater's setting on Jabal al-Qala'a adds to its charm, offering panoramic views of the city and the Citadel in the distance. It's an ideal spot to capture stunning photographs and soak in the beauty of Amman's urban landscape. The historical significance of the Roman Theater is profound, and the onsite signage and information panels provide valuable insights into its past. Learning about the theater's role in ancient times enhanced my appreciation for this remarkable site. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a culture buff, or simply seeking a unique experience, the Roman Theater in Amman is a must-visit destination. Its well-preserved structure, breathtaking vistas, and captivating ambiance make it a true gem of Jordan's heritage. I cannot recommend it enough!

A world cultural heritage site in the centre of Amman. An outstanding landmark of an incredible historical value built during the rule of the Roman Emperor Pius in the second century AD. A remarkable sunset. A great view from the top. Ticket costs only 3 JOD. Worth visiting!

This Roman theatre has been beautifully restored, although not always with the original materials, but it is nevertheless impressive. The steps are fairly steep and irregular, so care needs to be taken. In addition to the theatre itself there are two small museums either side of the entrance. Ticket prices are reasonable and the wait to buy them was short. Most definitely worth visiting.

The Roman Theater is a historic landmark from many thousands of years ago, a must go for Tourists and history lovers. There's a regular large play and seating area in front of it with no entry fee needed. A fee is required to go to the theater itself, only during the daytime. It is surreal experience sitting on the same place people of centuries ago sat on and going into the same halls as they did. I very highly recommend coming here.

Massive amphitheatre which can accommodate 6000 viewers. Still in use occasionally. Just climb on steep steps up to the top of auditorium to enjoy breathtaking views of amphitheater and citadel in background. There is small amphitheater in the area and museum

This was my first time ever visiting an amphitheatre and I was amazed by the sheer scale of this place. When I visited it was very empty so I felt like I had the entire theater to myself. Make your way to the top of the theater to get a really nice view. The steps are quite big and steep so just keep that in mind. You can also visit 2 museums, one highlighting the customs of the Bedouins and the outfits and jewelry they would wear and the other museum gives you more insight into how they lived. I never had to pay anything extra to view these museuns. If you're doing a city tour you'll probably stop at this location.

A lovely place worth visiting in Amman in the heart of the city. The Roman Theatre is in use today for performances, concerts, and events. In addition, halls on both sides of the stage house two small heritage museums: The Folklore Museum and the Museum of Popular Traditions. The row of columns in front of the theatre is what remains of the colonnades which flanked the Roman Forum, a public square, once among the largest of the Empire (100 x 50 metres). East of it is the Odeon, a smaller Roman auditorium for musical performances

The colonnade of the ancient forum is located between the theater and the square. You can take interesting photos. The entrance to the theater is paid 3 dinars. (Translated by Google) The Roman Amphitheater is a Roman theater located in the eastern part of the Jordanian capital, Amman, precisely at the foot of Jouf Mountain, on a hillside opposite Amman Citadel. [1] [2] [3] A Greek inscription found on one of the pillars indicates that this amphitheater was built in honor of the Emperor Antonius Pius, who visited Oman in the year 130 AD. Next to the amphitheater is the Forum Square, with a total area of 7,600 square meters, and its construction probably dates back to the second century AD, specifically between 138 and 161 AD during the reign of the Roman Emperor Antonius Pius. Built in the 2nd century AD, one of the well preserved Roman theaters in the world. Capacity is almost 6000+ seats and usually activities and ceremonies take place there. Entrance fee is JD 2 per person. If you are making a city tour in the old part of Amman then this is a must see monument.

Really interesting archaeological site to visit. The roman theatre of Amman it's one of the best preserved in the world. If you like history (but even if you don't like it 😅) it's one of the places worth visiting in Amman. Of course you have to pay the ticket, but then you can make the stairs and go up to see the theatre from above. Really great structure. At night the area in front of the theater is full of life with a lot of jordanians who meet there and pass some time with friends and family.

This is the time to go, no lines and plenty of space to keep distanced. Another great location that accepts the Jordan Pass. It has 2 nice small museums, one on each side of the entrance. In addition, there is a huge plaza in front of the entrance to sit and relax as well as sitting next to the Hashemite Plaza.

What a wonderful superbly preserved Roman amphitheatre. Definitely should be high on your list if visiting Jordan. Great to climb to the top to get a full overview of the whole theatre. There is a museum to visit too showing life in Roman times. I especially loved the group of bagpipe players who had learned from the British army when training the Jordanian army and have maintained the tradition.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to climb all the way to the top and view the city. It's wonderful to sit in a place where people used to sit thousand years ago. I spent 2 hours there just sitting and contemplating. The weather was nice in November.

A very impressive amphitheatre built into the rock face, opposite the citadel. With the Jordan pass it costs nothing to get in. You can climb all the way to the top. It is very steep, so harder coming down!

I strongly recommend visiting this place if you are in Amman. There are two museums one the two side (no extra fee required). If you have Jordan pass, u can enter without paying

Nice, big area. Entrance fee is included in Jordan Pass. Staff is nice. Unfortunately it is quite dirty and there are rubbish everywhere. Some shops would be great so you could spend more time here and buy some suvenirs or drink a cup of tea

The Roman Theatre in Amman is an iconic landmark that attracts visitors from all over the world. This ancient structure is one of the most well-preserved Roman theaters in the world, and it is an absolute must-visit for anyone interested in history or architecture. One of the most striking aspects of the Roman Theatre is its sheer size. The theater can accommodate up to 6,000 people and is made entirely of stone, with intricate carvings and details that are simply breathtaking. The amphitheater is also in excellent condition, considering its age, and the restoration work that has been done is commendable. Overall, the Roman Theatre in Amman is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in history or architecture. Its impressive size, intricate details, and rich history make it a fascinating place to visit, and the views from the top are simply spectacular. If you're visiting Amman, don't miss the chance to see this incredible ancient structure for yourself. If you have Jordan Pass entrance is free.

A very well restored and impressive looking theater right in the middle of the city. We arrived early on a rainy day so it was quite empty. We even had to ask the ticket guy to check our Jordan pass. We could have just walked right thru.

The Roman Theater of Amman is a captivating historical gem that immerses visitors in the city's ancient past. The well-preserved structure is a sight to behold, and exploring its tiers gives you a sense of the grand performances that once graced its stage. The panoramic views from the top tiers offer stunning glimpses of Amman's modern skyline, making it a perfect spot for photography and creating lasting memories. However, I must caution fellow travelers to be wary of some individuals at the front of the theater who may pose as tour guides. These individuals might offer their services, but be cautious as they could ask for a large amount of money at the end of the tour, leaving you feeling uncomfortable. It's best to research legitimate tour options beforehand or explore the theater on your own. Despite this cautionary note, the Roman Theater of Amman remains a must-visit attraction, showcasing the city's historical significance and architectural splendor. I recommend taking the time to learn about its rich history before visiting and savoring the experience of stepping back in time in this remarkable archaeological site.

It was a nice place to visit. It's not as magnificent as we thought. Maybe because we had visited Petra, Jerash before visiting Amman. Those roman theaters are bigger and older than the one in Amman. We already had seen a few Roman theaters before this. So, if u only visit Amman Jordan, the u should go. If u will visit Petra, Jerash. Then u can skip it.

It’s crazy how this just sits in the city centre. Well worth the visit and the climb to the top for the view if you’re able. Included with your Jordan pass.
