The five flies is an excellent restaurant in a wonderful setting. The service is really nice, a bit original but nevertheless friendly and swift. The food comes in generous portion. There is typical Dutch food such as herring. Soups are excellent. Main course is a choice of meat and often catch of the day. Bread and butter are excellent. Great wines come along the course. After the meal it is nice to walk around a little bit to visit all the rooms. Reservation is recommended, it seems that the restaurant closes later than others do in Amsterdam. It is quite central, walkable from central train station. Price is what we can expect from a historical place.

Very nice historic Dutch restaurant. The ambiance is amazing , feels like you are dining in an mıdıeval castle. Food and dessert excellent. Service was also very pleasant but slow and aloof.

d'Vijff Vlieghen offered an extraordinary dining experience for our family. We each had the 6-course prix fixe menu with wine pairing, and were consistently surprised by the quality of each dish. I highly recommend visiting, and can't wait to come back for dinner next time I'm in Amsterdam.

The food looked very good. Plating was great and feels very fine dining. In the end however the food is very simple and good but not great. We were a large group so there was a set menu. Service was not good at all. Waitress was rude and clearly overwhelmed.

Step into this historic building & dine on well prepared Dutch cuisine. Starters: oysters, very fresh, bisque-silky. Entrees: Pork belly, tender & sweet with veggie, Catch of the Day with a dollop of caviar & veggies, perfectly cooked & seasoned. Dessert: Pana Cotta with ice cream-very good. Nice wine selection. The servers were friendly & helpful. Restaurant closes in wintertime.

A MUST experience whilst in Amsterdam. Fascinating place, superb service and great food. However lacking on the vegetarian options. Worth asking for a wee tour, or if not they may let you explore yourself (worth it!). Thank you very much to Franz for wonderful hospitality 😊

Wonderful old place very stylistic. Cool decorations. You really feel you stepped back in time. Seems more fish oriented, but had pork and beef as well. Someone else was paying, probably quite expensive. Our server was very sarcastic, but seemed busy.

The building has a fascinating history and the interior is beautiful. The food was great but a little simplified. The service was horrendous to say the least - slow and disorganized to the point that it just ruins the atmosphere and entire experience of dining at D’Vijff Vlieghen.

This place would’ve been perfect if it wasn’t for… So, I’ll start with the good thing. The food, the waiter and service, the wines, the atmosphere, amazing. The manager… rude. To begin with, this place is clearly full of mind blowing things you would want to take pictures of, like interior, details and so on. And my friend who’s been there over a dozen times said, she’s always there and always takes photos and everyone is super nice about it. So, had we. Anyway, I got up with my friends to walk up to the empty table by the fire place to take a picture, and my friends made a turn to the bathroom I stayed, and manager walked by and said, rudely, “don’t take photos of people” I said, “but there are no people here?” He continued by saying, yes but this isn’t your first photo don’t take photo of people. I said, there are no people here and you can look through my photos I haven’t take any of people to which he replied. You should just say Yes and stop arguing. I thought all of it was totally uncalled for. First, you come off at me rudely, giving me a completely unwarranted remark, with complete show of attitude, secondly, expecting me to submit to you and respond how you want to? Had it he came to me by saying, “excuse me,” and as me politely I would’ve apologized but he has ambushed me with attitude and had and an expectation that I will not talk back when I am being ordered, not given a notice. I understand that there are certain expectations and I am cautious of avoiding photos of people in the photos because it is inappropriate but there are, I am not saying “nice” way to say these things to customers I am saying “more polite” ways. You can be assertive politely without being rude. Anyway. Other than this, the place is worth going.

An unforgettable evening! We had 8 people with so many different dietary restrictions and the waitstaff was super accommodating, even for the set menu and brought out gluten free bread! It was such a cool experience to dine somewhere with so much history. All of the food was delicious and the wine pairings were perfect.

We had an unforgettable dinner at this unique historical place. The interior of the restaurant is like a museum, there are so many interesting exhibits related to the history of the restaurant. Food, wine, service - everything was perfect!

This restaurant truly is "one of a kind" culinary museum. The interiors are absolutely stunning. The walls are decorated with beautiful gold plated leather from the 17th and 19th centuries. The food was fantastic and the service was nice and friendly. I really enjoyed the steak tartare, the beef tenderloin with potato, little gem, and hollandaise sauce and the pork belly with beetroot, apple, and mash potato 😋😋 Highly recommend everything about this place!!

Stunning restaurant, beautiful building and deco. The staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful. The food is a modern take on Dutch dishes. The presentation was good. Overall a pleasant evening. We were a larger party, therefore we had to book in advance.

I was really, really impressed with this place! Incredible venue - five super old houses converted into a restaurant but with lots of quiet secluded areas so it feels small, cosy and romantic. The food was insanely good and it was my favourite meal in Amsterdam. The waiter we had was friendly and thoughtful. It was a great evening :-)

Another great restaurant for dining in Amsterdam, you can choose to have up to 5 or more courses or a single meal. The pork belly was amazingly good. Also, they serve one of the best gluten free breads I’ve ever had. The building is beautiful with all the old wood from a 600’s decommissioned sailing ship!

Pleasant atmosphere with dimmed lights and lots of history. It seemed real nice in the beginning… The food was great but we couldn’t finish it because the arrogant waiter decided to take our plates away without even asking while we weren’t even halfway through… (to clear any doubts, we asked the waiter to bring more wine, he said ok and took the plates instantly, we couldn’t understand what’s happening and got confused, in the end we had to drink the ordered wine without food) I would like the management to read this and do something about waiters behaviour. We left baffled and hungry…

We stumbled upon this gem after arriving late to Amsterdam on a Friday night in late May. We walked in and it felt very exciting and romantic...but were quickly informed that the kitchen was closed (the Dutch eat early...take note!), however luckily we scored a reservation on the spot for the next night. Truly a magical place to dine, if you can find it! Like stepping back in time. Classic Dutch cuisine and it is excellent. Take photos as it is truly one of a kind (my photos are dark and don't do this amazing establishment justice!). Our server, Ahmed was absolutely fantastic. Five stars friends!

Probably one of the top Dutch restaurants of the city. Excellent aesthetics, friendly staff and delicious dishes. Operating under a new management, there have been some changes to the working hours.

Amazing atmosphere! Had such a good experience with the 3-course menu, all executed well, great wines to match. The chairs with famous names that sit there is a nice touch. Made reservation for a Friday night and staff was very friendly and patient.

Stunning restaurant in a 17th century building offering great dutch produce with a modern french twist. The staff was the real star of the evening, very professional and knowledgeable. The dishes were very well executed and the wine pairings were truly wonderful. The establishment is famous for the Rembrandt artwork displayed and notorious guests over the years, but that is really more of an addition to the ambiance rather than the main focus, as the food and service really speak for themselves.

Amsterdam’s Five Flies, or d’Vijff Vlieghen, restaurant provides one of those rare culinary experiences that stays with you for a lifetime. Not only is the décor memorable and in fact iconic to old world Netherlands, but the ever-changing menu is also full of surprises and challenges to the pallet. The Five Flies is in essence an extraordinary sensory experience. Due to an annual business conference that is held in Amsterdam, my wife and I have the luxury of visiting the Five Flies every year and it is one of the highlights of our annual trip. This year was no different. I started with the rouleau of Dutch herring, followed by the breast of duck and finished with the milk chocolate mousse. My wife ordered the veal pastrami, the pan-fried haddock with spinach and ended with the selection of four Dutch cheeses. Each of these dishes were creative cuisine with differing flavours and textures combined to provide a unique experience. In short, it was wonderful. The Five Flies changes its menu regularly and so different offerings will be on hand for our next visit. For this who enjoy a unique dining experience with an iconic ambience, there are few restaurants around the world that can challenge the Five Flies. This is one restaurant that is not to be missed.

Cannot hide that this was the best restaurant in Amsterdam in 10 years living here and still surprised it has no Michelín stars. Food was good but service was sublime 👌

High-class gourmet restaurant of Dutch cuisine. For each course there is a specific wine that is tasted. The staff is highly qualified in explaining the dishes and drinks, especially the Italian restaurant manager. You don't expect large quantities of food, of course, it's all about the experience of taste.

Really an experience to dine in the Vijff Vlieghen! Great personnel, historic location (watch the stairs upwards- very steep!) and excellent food. Recommended for individual or group diners.

Authentic Dutch experience! And I’m not talking only about the food, but about the whole culture. At the Vijff Vlieghen you will enter a restaurant whose interior goes back to the 17th century, you can admire antique artworks in every corner and taste some authentic dutch cuisine! 🥘 Worried that this restaurant might be a little too expensive for you? My tip is to go and order one of their excellent main dishes, we had duck and beef tenderloin for example, and enjoy a glass of wine.🍷 Your wallet will be grateful and you will have a unique chance to admire this beautiful restaurant and eat in a unique place! 😉

5 Vlieghen, 5 stars. This place is really cool. The food was great and the atmosphere is magical. Knowing that you are sitting in a place with so much history is just awesome. The place is chique but also casual. Really an experience to spend an evening here. You forget where you are. The staff is amazing. Raffa was super helpful and funny, the whole evening. I definitely recommend this place.

Really great food. It's fancy food but the restaurant is really traditional. A lot of tourist go there but it hasn't transformed into a tourist trap, which is quite rare. Great staff.

The best restaurant in Amsterdam for food, wine and service. I visit the Five Flies whenever in the Netherlands and it has never disappointed me. There is a new chef at the restaurant and our meal was superb. Each dish is very thoughtfully considered and a real joy to consume. Excellent service in film-set surroundings

An exceptional location, a rich place distorts. Imagine having dinner and having Rembrandt's works by your side? Here it is so. We had Good welcome is waiting for you in the restaurant, but an amazing welcome and table service thanks to Robin's magnificent work! The dishes are really of excellent quality and the surprise that I asked to reserve for my wife's BIRTHDAY was really exciting. Congratulations to the best restaurant in Amsterdam! We will definitely be back soon!!
