I actually got given a different name for this bridge. 2 Sisters bridge. The sorry is that 2 sisters lived on opposite sides and the bridge was built to reunite them. All the same it's a lovely addition to the nighttime view of the river and quite a nice story. Swing by.

A short walk from the tram. Perfect for couples to walk across the bridge. This bridge is also known as Love Lock Bridge. If you kiss your lover on this bridge, you will stay together forever! You can no longer secure a padlock along the bridge.

Really nice place to stay for a quick relaxation or just to see the view over the river and Amsterdam! There are also some breweries next to the bridge which serve the popular Amstel beer.

The "Skinny Bridge," or the "Magere Brug" as it is known in Dutch, is one of the most photographed attractions in Amsterdam. A picturesque drawbridge spanning the Amstel River in the heart of the city, it's one of Amsterdam's most iconic and recognizable landmarks. The bridge is characterized by its elegant and delicate design, with a series of white wooden beams and a classic Dutch double-swipe mechanism. The name "Skinny Bridge" is derived from the original bridge at this location, which was quite narrow. The current bridge, built in 1934, is wider but still retains its historic charm. According to legend, the bridge was built by two wealthy skinny sisters, the "magere sussen", who lived on opposte sides of the water and who wanted to keep their commute time to a minimum. A symbol of the city's rich history and enduring charm, it is particularly enchanting when illuminated at night with 1,200 light bulbs, creating a stunning reflection in the water. The Skinny Bridge is a popular spot for tourists and photographers, offering beautiful views of the Amstel River and the surrounding area. Another local legend states that couples who kiss on the bridge will stay together forever.

Wonderful experience visiting this bridge overlooking the canal. Lot's of boats are exploring the beauty of the canal and the bistro's all around. Best visiting time is during sunset when day light is leaving for the night lights.

(Translated by Google) Perhaps the most famous bridge in Amsterdam is the Magere Brug over the river Amstel. It was built in 1934 and connects the banks at Kerkstraat. However, the original bridge at this location, the Kerkstraatbrug, dates from 1691. Since this bridge was quite narrow, the name 'skinny bridge' was already created at that time.

Great little bridge not too far away from the Zoo. So, you can combine these two attractions in one outing. However, fishing wasn’t good by the bridge, if you are into it.

The Skinny bridge or “Magre Bruge” is an old bridge in Amsterdam. The bridge got its name, because in the old times, the working class people had to walk across the bridge to get to their job. Due to very heavy congestions, people had to walk almost side by side to be able to cross the narrow bridge. Legends say that if you kiss your loved one on the bridge, it will last forever.

(Translated by Google) The central part of the Magere Brug is a base bridge made of whitewashed wood. The current bridge was built in 1934. The first bridge was built on this site in 1691 as Kerkstraatbrug and had 13 arches. Because this bridge was so narrow, locals called it Magere Brug, which literally means "skinny bridge". In 1871 the bridge deteriorated greatly, and it was demolished and replaced by a wooden bridge with nine arches. Half a century later, this bridge also needed replacement. Architect Pete Cramer has made several designs for a steel and stone bridge, but the city decided to replace it with a new bridge that looks like the previous bridge, but only slightly larger. In 1934, this bridge was demolished and replaced by a redesign by the Kramer House. The last major renovation was in 1969. Until 1994, the bridge was opened manually, but is now operated automatically. The bridge has been restricted to pedestrians and cyclists in use since 2003. The central part is opened several times a day to allow river traffic to pass. The sightseeing tourist boats are low enough to pass under a bridge when closed. The bridge is decorated with 1,200 light bulbs that are turned on in the evening. A story told to tourists about the origins of the 1691 version of the bridge is that it was built by two sisters who lived on either side of the Amstel River who wanted to be able to visit each other every day. In one variation of the story, the sisters could not afford a bridge of a suitable width or height for public use, so a very narrow bridge was built, hence its name. In another variation, the sisters' last name was Mager (skinny), which gave the bridge the name (rather than its narrow). [2] Recent research on the city's archives has revealed that the origin of the name is due to the fact that a massive and massive stone bridge was originally planned during Amsterdam's prosperous golden age, but the economic downturn in 1672 forced the city council to drastically scale back plans and build a foundation. And a simple structure instead. (3) The bridge is considered by locals to be the most romantic of all in Amsterdam. It is a common site for giving shows and lovers' outings. Additionally, legend says that a kiss between lovers while on this bridge (or passing under it by boat) guarantees that they will forever fall in love. The bridge can be seen in a number of films, including the 1971 James Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever, in which a boat tour guide narrates the myth of building the bridge.
