We loved the place. We went for lunch on a Saturday around noon, and there were available tables. A little later, it got quite crowded as the place seems to be quite popular. And no wonder: the food is fantastic, and the service is very good. They have good options of draft beer and help us decide on the best local beers. For lunch, we shared ribs, and it was excellent. The soup of the day was also fantastic. Our 3-year-old daughter had pasta and enjoyed it too. In short, a complete place to feel at home in Amsterdam.

Thankful to my cousin who reached out after seeing my IG posts on Amsterdam and told me to visit this lovely and cosy restaurant. Service was excellent and so was the food. Went for the bread basket, bitterballen, spare ribs and pea soup (I had wanted my husband to try the traditional Dutch split pea soup). Every dish was done well, though the spare ribs I had did not fall off the bone like my cousin’s (he proclaimed that his did). I especially loved the bread basket, one of the best I’ve had. Bread was crusty, warm and served in a huge portion with 3 very tasty dips. Bitterballen was also done well, and the split pea soup was just amazing. Asked for a warmed up homemade apple pie for dessert and warming it was just the best idea. Restaurant was lively, cosy and busy. Thankful to be able to try the food here on our last day in Amsterdam.

Very friendly, good service. Some of the best spareribs we've ever had. A very good option for stew lovers and a yummy apple pie for dessert. Would have expected/wished the pie to be warm, but still very good. You can also get some mixed, warm appetizer platter to go for canal tours. Reservation is probably recommended.

Fantastic experience and meal. We ordered the ribs and Dutch Stammpot recommended by Cora, the owner--both were outstanding. The Apple cake/pie is delicious and comes with cinnamon ice cream, which was a special treat. Great service. We sat outside on a sunny day watching the bikes and pedestrians flow past. A perfect Amsterdam afternoon!

We went here for the specific Netherlands food. It was fine, but kind of average. It depends on each person taste, but for me it was enough to try it once. Meatballs and the sausage with mashed potatoes. We also tried the beer, interesting taste.

Friendly service, tasty food, good atmosphere, was a bit loud and dark at night but it was kind of fun vibes, good portions and opend slightly later than other restaurants for dinner. We got in without reservation and service was quick. We tried the stampot and was quite good and filling and prices were good considering the food quality and amount, tried others more expensive and worst. Recommend if you are in the area.

Delicious, fresh food. Nice quiet part of town with still plenty going on to watch from our seat on the kerbside. Really enjoyed lunch with Dutch Coffee - what a treat!

Maybe, it could be one of the best restaurant of the city. Good beers and fantastic food. I do not have any doubt that I will come back here.

We had the typical dutch plate ‘stampott’ and the ribs. They were simply excellent. On top of that we were greeted and served by amazing people who made our night! I totally recommend this place and Id be coming here the next time im in Amsterdam.

The Café Sonnveld in Amsterdam is an amazing restaurant. I had there their traditional Stampot and dutch pork ribs as well, it was a delight! We were served under the best condition, our waitress being so nice and heedful. Thank you for this great experience !

Went on a Sunday evening and couldn't get in. Went Monday and got a table at the window. Very nice to look out and see the canal. Food was very good. Service excellent. English speaking staff. We got the stamp pot with meatball and schnitzel. It is a small place, but very friendly staff. I would go back for sure.

This amazing place was a few steps away from where I stayed in Amsterdam and I stumbled across it by accident for an early lunch. The owner is a beautiful lady and I think her son also works there. They were so very attentive and super nice and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and I asked for their own recommendation of their specialties and local food and was even explained to about everything I ordered and even what is the best way to eat their dutch specialties! My lunch experience was so good that I had to go back there for dinner and I was blown away by how busy it got, yet the atmosphere and vibe was so cozy and warm and welcoming. The owner and staff super attentive and accommodating and the food was just finger-licking awesome.

I was recommended this place by 2 different tour guides who come here off duty regularly. It didn't disappoint, very busy with locals and tourists so I was glad I'd booked ahead on line, very easy! Service was great, a good choice of beers and the food was delicious. Everyone else's food looked amazing too. It was reasonably priced as well. It's a nice walk to get to it, along canals and not too far from Anne Frank's house. All in all great food, a good range of beers, a good atmosphere, and good service. What's not to like?! I'll definitely go back on my next visit!

I very much enjoyed the restaurant! Their staff are kind and nice and they make extremely good food. Before arriving here, I reserved at noon for a table of twelve (I recommend you reserve as it's a quite popular place), but due to the schedule changing and the visit at the Royal Palace taking longer than I expected, it wouldn't happen. Thankfully, the restaurant happily changed it to 1:15 PM after a quick call, they were quick and willing to do so. We arrived there 10 minutes later, but they allowed us in the restaurant (I called them again to make sure we got seats). The food there was great, we were welcomed by an old sweet lady, and the drinks and food were served out in relatively not too long of a time. Delicious! I ordered Dutch Stamppot with Meatball. The restaurant not only had great staff and food, it also had a nice, dimly-lit environment, contrasting to the bright light of the afternoon. Would recommend to others and visit again!

Stopped by on a couple occasions for a quick drink and snack. This cafe is extremely popular with tourists and, it appears, locals alike. Very authentic, even for a place on one of the busiest corners in Jordaan. Service was prompt and friendly. Beware that is difficult to get a table if you just pop by.

Best mossels in Amsterdam! The restaurant is lovely, typical dutch/amsterdam atmosphere with dutch music and very clean. The owner is a lovely woman

One of the best meal experiences we had in Amsterdam! We went for dinner, and as with most places in Europe, reservations are a must. Food. For appetizers, the shrimp croquettes and salmon tartare were lovely. They are known for their stampot - mashed potatoes and carrots with a meatball or sausage. We ordered both to try them. The schnitzel had a great breading on it and good flavor. Dessert was an apple pie, that was slightly overdosed with cinnamon. Service was wonderful and with Dutch efficiency. Food came out quickly. Takes cards. Note: Some lovely tables outside by the canal if you’re planning on having lunch.

Wonderful place! Great service, great food. I ordered the ribs, thought there's no way I was going to finish them. They were excellent and F.O.T.B. (fall off the bone) and I cleaned the plate. Plus they had Canadian Club whisky, I might have been the first person in years to order it... Plus the music is fun as well. Thank you!

Nice place in Amsterdam. Their food is great and their prices are on average for the area. They’re really fast at serving. The place is crowded, so try to book beforehand. Staff is nice. Food is global, but they have a nice cut for Dutch dishes. A good option.

Love this hidden gem of traditional dutch food. We ordered rid, bitterballen, smash potatoes with meat ball. Kids order spaghetti Bolognese. All great, especially when we are starving!😆

Great place for lunch and coffee! The 3 of us got a table inside and had a tasty lunch. I had the avocado toast on whole wheat bread. It was served with cheese and tomato, just like a toasted cheese sandwich, and not open-faced like I expected. It was served with a side of mixed greens—very nice! I tasted my hubby’s apple tart with whipping cream, so good with loads of cinnamon! I wonder if the tourists visiting the cafe have any idea who Sonneveld was? I just watched Silk Stockings from 1957 with Fred Astaire and there he was! Appreciate the friendly service. Very good cappuccino, too.

One of the local recommendations to visit for excellent ribs. With a beautiful rustic corner-restaurant next to the canal, this restaurant is one the classics to go to. The service (we received from the lady of the house, the owner herself) who was very direct but friendly, fun and refreshing. Maybe some British people or Americans might feel slightly surprised by how nonchalant the service in Amsterdam generally can be, but in this case it actually lead to us getting a table without reservation on arrival and quite spontaneously. Prices are ok and petty average. Not cheap but also not expensive. They also included vegetarian options. The view and location are really worth eating outside here. But this basically applies to half the restaurants in Amsterdam at least. I would still always recommend a table directly next to the canal, and the insane spare ribs.

We reserved in advance the table for kind of a big group. The place is not far away from city centre. In general everything was nice. Food good, specially the apple pie, although not specially sophisticated and staff very gentle and nice. In the menu they had a lot of meat that we considered too expensive to try for a place that we don't know, so we tried for the typically Netherlands dishes. In short a nice place to go if you are in the area looking for a place to eat.

I wanted to come the second time especially for this place. Everything is perfect, starting with the staff, the food is absolutely delicios - best mushroom soup and ribs I've ever eaten. Also, you must try the local white beer. Great place ❤️

This cafe is excellent. Typical Dutch style. The food is very tasty. Would recommend the ribs or the meatball and mash. Very friendly staff and good price (for Amsterdam).

We had the typical dutch food of ribs and the mashed potatoes which I think is called Stammpot with sausage. I liked it. I recommend trying this place for good dutch food! Great introduction to the cuisine

Great experience here with lovely food and kind staff. They have a nice outdoor seating area and free wifi. Stamppot was very delicious, although there is only the carrot and onion one here. Both sausage and meatball were juicy and well seasoned. Beers and apple cider were also great. Overall, a nice place to visit in Amsterdam!

Fabulous dinner here, one of the best on our two week vacation. The pumpkin soup was outstanding, as were the ribs. We had a perfect table, outside and directly across the street from the restaurant, with a beautiful view of the canal (see photo). The service was outstanding, a very personable young man waited on us and took great care of everything. Be sure to get a reservation, this restaurant is a touch off the beaten path but it was clearly popular. Thank you for a lovely evening.
