👍👍 Wonderful bookstore in the center of Amsterdam. They've recently combined forces with a store that focuses on travel maps and guides, especially those for biking and hiking. The best in the world that I've seen so far. Planning a bike trip in Germany? They've got the maps and guides. Ditto for Fran... People often mention travel, books, store, maps,

Wonderful bookstore in the center of Amsterdam. They've recently combined forces with a store that focuses on travel maps and guides, especially those for biking and hiking. The best in the world that I've seen so far. Planning a bike trip in Germany? They've got the maps and guides. Ditto for France Spain Netherlands and many many other countries. Very friendly staff too.

I love this travel bookshop because it has an enormous selection of travel books and maps. There is also a whole section for kids with colouring books, kids atlases etc. Inside the shop there is a very nice café where you can get a coffee or a piece of cake. It's THE place to go in Amsterdam if you are looking for a travel guide or map for any part of the world. Even if you are not looking for anything it's a great place to go and get inspiration for future holidays!!!

Spread over two levels, there is a huge range of maps and travel books, in Dutch and also some in English, and other related items like globes and posters. I loved the selection of books on hiking 🧗‍♀️ and cycling routes 🚵‍♀️ There is a cafe at the rear with some large communal tables. The store was very busy while I was there, so it's clearly a popular store. Very hard to leave empty handed but it was early in our voyage of exploration and limited room for additional cargo. Very much hoping for a return visit.

In a time of the digital age a travel store can still remain standing. It is amazing how many books are in here and more importantly how big the place is. At the back there is a small bar you can get cakes and drinks. So if you're looking for a holiday destination this is the place to get lost while finding inspiration.

I love specialized shops and Pied à Terre is no exception. It is perhaps the best travel book shop in Amsterdam. Great selection and variety of books, maps and gifts. The people working here are very attentive and knowledgeable. You can also enjoy a coffee while going through the pages of the books you intend to buy. Perhaps you can even make new travel friends in here.

You like to travel the world? You are addicted to travel books? This is your nirvana! Don't go here only for your travel books, as a globetrotter, you'll probably adore the world so much, you won't be able to resist buying yourself a globe from one of the broadest collections I've seen. Save some money and give in to your urges, we'll understand!

Closed permanently at it's former Overtoom, legendary, huge location. This Google(maps) link, using photo's of the former location's brilliance, now refers to it's current measly tiny two-bookcase sized section inside Scheltema, including Scheltema's horrible service as seemingly an absurdist bizarro-world version of it's former self. I hope someday Amsterdam will get it's real Pied à Terre, that I used to give the full 5 stars, back somewhere, sometime.

I bought a travel book in February 2016, it was the first edition, June 2015, and one week later I saw it in another book store but second edition, September 2015. I would have expected this store had only the latest revisions, so now I won't buy anything here again.

If your thinking about travelling or you are going this book store has the best selection of guides, maps and books about every country you can think of. I managed to get a rare map of Mongolia from them.
