Nachos was prima, strongly recommended! Maincourses were also nice but I lacked a bit of taste in fries and the fish. Friendly and nice service. They manage it very well with limited staff and a lot of guests..

This is a place which serves nice casual food with decent sized portions and prices. I always enjoy dinner and a drink there. They also have men’s toilets designed by Stark which need to be seen (in a positive way) :)

Been here a few times where it was lovely and very nice but not this week - no greeting, no willingness to accept our order, just a grumpy person walking around… she probably didn’t have her day

An excellent place for a cozy warm dinner or evening gathering with friends and beer. Located close to Amsterdam Bos and Border Coffeeshop, I frequently visited this place for beer or hot chocolate on winter nights, especially after long walks in Bos park. The place has a wooden finish all around with good ambience, felt special warmth everytime I visited. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Food is of good quality and medium price range. The cafe remains open for late nights on somedays, although food order closes by 10pm. Amsterdam Kalfjeslaan bus stop is right in front of the cafe as well.

We visited the cafe a number of times as we were watching hockey at the National Stadium at Pinoke. On our first visit it was quite late and busy but the staff still found us a table and we could still order food even though it was around 10pm. The food here is excellent and you get very generous portions. We also had breakfast here one morning at a really good choice and it was really good value. On the nights we visited the atmosphere was very good like English pubs used to be.

Watch out where you sit in this Cafe! I came here a few times before for drinks but this was the first time that I came for dinner. We decided to sit in the back and you should honestly not do this unless there are already many people sitting there, as the staff will just not come by for ages. I had to look for staff multiple times so that we would get help. Next to this the food was good, I had a burger and my friend had the chicken Sate, nothing crazy. The place itself is a charm though and as the name suggests a very old beautiful bar area and I would definitely recommend getting a drink.

Good beer, wings, fries and service. Relaxed place for friends and family to kick back for a few drinks and snacks. We didn’t get entrees but I’ve heard they’re good.

Absolutely awful service, the lady who served at our table was tired (of people), extremely rude and aggressive. Inside is beautiful, food is average. Would not recommended to anyone to go there, 1 star is too much. It may be gezellig in another day, Wednesday at noon felt like in the old Catholic school.

I called ahead to reserve a table for one, on a not-too-busy Friday evening. I walked over, and arrived to find the restaurant busy, but far from overwhelmed. Still, it took several minutes for someone to notice me, and then find me a table, though several were available. I waited at my table for about 5 minutes before my drink order was taken, and only a few minutes later I received the pint of Amstel that I had ordered. That was the last interaction I had with the staff. I browsed the menus and beer list for a while, translating descriptions manually (as no English menu is available, but we're in NL so whatever), waiting for someone to ask what I wanted to eat, or if I wanted another beer. After awhile I stopped browsing the menu, and did my best to make sure the wait staff could see my empty glass and empty table. After 45 minutes, my table had not been set with silverware, my beer glass was very empty, and I had not been approached (or acknowledged) by the wait staff. So I put €5 on the table and walked out. The food looked good (from what I could see on the plates of other patrons), and I looked forward to trying beers new to me, but I left sorely dissatisfied and with an empty stomach.

Great place, noisy but vibrant and popular with locals.

Interior was cozy and has a nice theme, food took quite long and service was a bit slow as well but staff seemed very friendly. Food wise, was mediocre. Got asked medium rare steak but it was overly well done.

The pub is lovely inside and nice for a drink. Food is decent also. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ask bar staff to stop putting ice in glasses with their hands. It’s absolutely disgusting

Rich salad is one of the best salads I’ve ever eaten. And I like the traditonally pub atmosphere.

Be ready for service russian roulette. Had some nice nights, some average, and last time got switch and baited with the football game, all 8+ screens just changed to another game in the middle of the game after I already ordered. Asked about it, got dismissed and didn't even charged me quickly enough for me to find a better place quickly.

We called prior to taking a long walk on King’s Day, we’re told they were open until 10 pm. We arrived at 8:55 pm. 2 people, explained we didn’t have anything as our hotel restaurant was closed and we said we’re ready to grab anything. Straight forward and stubborn reply “the kitchen closes at 9”. Then two bowls of salad shown to demonstrate that those were the last ones served. Still 2 minutes to 9 pm! Very low level of hospitality and stubborn staff.

I was reminded of not being white... It's great to be dutch but appreciate those who spend... I was added extra costs broodjes etc tonic ... I had to argue we did not eat here.... It is disgusting when you think... But worse when it is oke .. he showed me after payment plus tip

Racism, We entered 1890 today me (from Amsterdam) and my family in law (from Suriname), my daughter and my girlfriend, where we saw 4 older guys playing a game. I walked after the blond woman who works there and about 5 meters behind me where my parents in law and my girlfriend. One of the guys said: " are you lost?"..... My girlfriend called me as I was to far to hear this (so was the woman who works there) and told me what happened. I went to the guys and asked him what was wrong and why he insulted my family. He replied laughing that he never said anything......I became angry, as he gave his friends the look en continued laughing. The waitress came to us as she heard us arguing and started to say that this man did not say anything...... I rest my case... This lady was walking in front of me so she could not hear anything at all. Too bad that racism exists within this restaurant... especially because I grew up in this area and have had dinner there a lot of times over the years.

After ordering food, we waited an hour. The manager doesn't even check the order. She looked at me and said, "Can't you see we're busy?" said In the end, I couldn't eat the burger. The order has not been placed.

Long wait for drinks. Not so tasty food as other cafes in the neighborhood. Ribs tasted as they had been pre cooked. Fries are good. I would come back for athmosphere and sit at the bar for good experience.

What a great place..that you probable walk/ drove by looks small from the outside,but opens up on the inside.it has great food and drinks at very affordable prices.great for a night out.. great vibe and very friendly people.Its a must do on places to as it's one of the oldest pubs in Amsterdam..
