The house is very unique, gothic architecture with interesting windows placement. This is one of the two wooden houses that survived a series of fires 500 years ago. This building was build approximately in 1425. Amazing to see, but it is a private residence so you can’t go inside. The enclosure courtyard where it is located is beautiful and well maintained. You won’t believe you are in the city center of Amsterdam, it’s so peaceful and quiet.

Oldest wooden house in the Begijnhof enclave. This House number 34 survived the great amsterdam fire of 1452 which had destroyed 2/3rd of Amsterdam city it seems. Wooden houses were subsequently banned due to repetitive fires in the city. Hence one of the unique piece of Amsterdam history

(Translated by Google) A beautiful place of a very interesting story. It is a very old neighborhood in Amsterdam, in fact the black house is the oldest, the same one that was saved from a fire and remains until now. Its catholic church camouflaged in a front facade in front of a very old Calvinist chapel. It is a very charming and typical town house.

This house is claimed to be the oldest standing House in Amsterdam whose date of construction goes far back to the 15th century. It is not accessible and you can just visit it from outside. The black façade makes it stand out among the other houses.

It’s definitely worth a short detour here! It's not very clearly marked, so you should definitely check the route. There is no entry/admission as it is open to the public.

Amazing to see the oldest wooden house. Not much to explore there but yeah one can spend around 30 mins to walk around and read about the religious group and their history.

One of the last 2 wooden houses in Amsterdam. Right at one of the entrances of the Begijnhof, so easy to find.

(Translated by Google) It is the oldest house that is preserved in a different neighborhood than what you can see in Amsterdam. Very quiet and a beautiful place to take a walk and enjoy the buildings. The church is also worth visiting.

(Translated by Google) This house, located at number 34 of the beautiful community of Begijnhof, is reputed to be the oldest in Amsterdam, its construction being estimated according to some sources in 1420, being one of the only two wooden constructions that still stand in the city; the other is a house in Zeedijk. Since the foundation of Amsterdam almost all houses were built in wood, but due to the large number of fires that were produced, in 1521 the City Council made the decision to prohibit construction on this material, forcing from that moment to build in brick. The date of 1528 is indicated on the facade of the house itself, a year that is surprising, since, as has been pointed out, the ban on the construction of wooden houses was in force seven years previously. In any case, traditionally the Houten Huys has been inhabited by single women, members of the congregation of the Beguines. We will have to settle for seeing its facade, since it is private property; for this we must access the courtyard of Begijnhof, which is open every day from 08.00 to 17.30. Access is free.
