This is definitely one of the best highlights of my journey in Amsterdam. It's a small boat with only 8 pax, and our tour guide, Michael, was an absolute delight. How the trip turned out is dependent on the guests and the tour guide. I was lucky to join a group of carefree participants from US, UK, and Switzerland. This is not your run-of-the-mill boat trip with the tour guide reading lines from a script. Everything feels more spontaneous and organic. You can bring your own food and drink, plus you can even smoke. The tour guide will provide you with interesting info about points of interest around the city. However, there's also plenty of interaction between the tour guide and participants. It makes the trip more memorable. Highly recommended. Don't think twice, just book your spot!

Excellent boat tour with a max of eight people in a boat along with the captain. Note that if you want a larger tour just let them know in advance so they can bring in a larger boat - it’s an option. They will take you where you want to go or pick places for you. The captain offers commentary throughout the 90 minute ride and answers questions from a locals perspective. This means it goes beyond the usual, “on the right you’ll see x building built in 1829 …”. They also allow booze, food and other legal activities on the boat. Highly recommend - it’s a great way to see Amsterdam.

Our guide was really lovely, gave us lots of it interesting information about the Netherlands. Even on a cloudy day, it was a great 2 hour tour. You can pre book drinks from soft drinks to local craft beers, wines etc. They take max 8 people. On board, you'll find warm blankets and hot water bottles to keep you warm in the colder days.

We heard about those dam boat guys through a friend. What a great recommendation! The tour was small, intimate, and fun. We booked in December (the off season), so there were only 4 of us (+our guide) on the boat. Andy was a great guide He encouraged the session to be interactive, and he was full of fun facts and interesting stories about Amsterdam. We brought our own bottle of wine and some sandwiches on the boat since we booked a tour around lunch time. They lent us nice plastic wine glasses for our drinks. The boat was covered to keep the heat in, but they also prepared hot water bottles and blankets to keep us warm.

I love being on the water with those dam boat guys! I've been on 3 trips with them and each one has been awesome. I love that the guides are super knowledgeable of city history but also real life. So the facts they share are relevant to life now but also historical stories. They are also incredible skilled at breaking the ice in the beginning and getting all guests on the boat to interact, so I believe if you go alone or with a friend, you'll have an equally excellent time. Seeing amsterdam from the water has been voted one of the worlds best experiences for a reason! It is gorgeous and such a vibe!

We have done other canal cruises in Amsterdam, but this one is the BEST! We love the smaller boat with fewer people. The tour took us through many of the smaller waterways where the larger boats cannot take you. We had so much fun learning about the city and the canal system from our amazing captain, Joel. The boat is clean, comfortable and safe. You get a great view from every seat on board. You can bring food and drinks or just relax and enjoy the tour. Captain Joel's tour is extremely informative and entertaining. We 100% recommend!

We booked a same day tour. They were able to accommodate the 2 of us at 6pm. The guide was interesting and shared different insights of Amsterdam from the canal. We met interesting tour mates. We experienced 2 stops for a pee break by the same group (a first for us). But it was a fun time.

Best dam boat tour of Amsterdam! If you are going to take a canal tour in Amsterdam and want something NOT run of the mill, go on the “Those Dam Boat Guys” tour. You get a small boat with only 8 people (or less). A 90 minute tour and a very informative boat driver. This is not one of the “typical” tours with 150 people on board and a pre-recorded guide. This is a personalized tour where you can meet your fellow passengers, interact and ask questions. Actually. It’s encouraged to do so. They gave us hot water bottles and blankets to stay warm (we were there in winter). And, you can bring beverages on board to drink! We really enjoyed our dam tour. Thanks boat guys for a dam great experience!! Highly recommended!!

Awesome tour, very informal and friendly. The route was lovely and our captain shared fun local & personal stories. Would definitely recommend to anyone who prefers a genuine experience without the stiffness of regular tours Also, hats off to whoever manages the website, the copy is just hilarious and so engaging.

Great way to discover the canals of Amsterdam! These guys are funny, informative, and as the boat is relatively small and no fuss, they can go places where the others usually can't. You can take drinks with you, and you should, buy your stuff before you get to the meeting point. If it is raining, you need to be prepared with raincoats and stuff, as the boat is not covered.

By far, one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had. My friends and I took the 5pm small group canal cruise with Andy, and not only did he have a great sense of humor but he was super informational. I especially loved how personal and unscripted this cruise was compared to other commercial and larger audio guided canal cruises. Best tour ever!

Booked a tour the day before and had a great experience! The tour guy was friendly and very knowledgeable about the city. He shared a lot of great info about Amsterdam, as well as the history of many of the sites we passed. There was also a bit of quiet time so you could just enjoy the view in spots. I personally appreciated the balance. The other thing that stood out was the tour size. It was nice to be in a more cozy setting without having to charter an expensive private boat. We were 2 of 8- way more personal than being on a boat with 50 passengers and a headset guide. Would definitely recommend Those Dam Boat Guys to any friends visiting Amsterdam. Thanks for the great tour!

Amazing canal ride. We noticed that people looked so bored sitting in those big canal tour boats and didn’t want that. We ended up hearing about those dam boat guys from our hotel concierge and they said they are great and turns out they really are! Our boat was a cozy one and we were a group of 4 adults and 2 kids and our captain. The captain made the trip super fun with all the fun info and jokes and recommendations. We were allowed to bring food and drinks and it was a very comfortable ride. It was cold so they closed the windows and gave us warm blankets. All in all a great trip. I highly recommend them.

A perfectly comfortable, funny, and educational tour all at once that will take you through some incredibly beautiful canals! The small boat sizes make it very friendly and personal as well, and it doesn’t feel rushed at all. I booked this after reading all the amazing reviews and my friends and I all agree it’s the highlight of our trip.

One of the best parts of our visit to Amsterdam! Our boat guide - Andy - was such an amazing guy! He was enjoyable listening to and was hilarious. Andy shared numerous facts factoids on the city that we didn’t know before this tour. Everyone else on the boat was so kind and we all had a great time! Definitely recommend!!

The easiest 5-stars I give of all time!! Talk about the communication style, their flexibility (we confused the boarding dock and they’ve shifted us to the next trip), or the great staff. Jarid was very cooperative and flexible, and Julian is the best boat captain you could ever ask for!! Big kudos to you guys!!

We had a great boat ride experience. The captain, David is very friendly, knowledgeable and most of all, makes his guests feel at ease alone the trip. There were 8 of us, us two and the other 3 couples who were friends. A nice bunch and we got on well. Talked about our trips and plans for the trip while enjoying the ride. You can bring your own drinks/snacks or alternatively, you can order drinks from Those Dam Boat Guys with your ticket which you can collect at their office which is what we did. A small cool box was given to us for the boat. Highly recommend these guys! The staff member at the office was friendly too.

WOW! What an amazing ‘dam’ experience! My only regret is not having done this on the first day of my time in Amsterdam. The tour was a perfect introduction to the city! Our guide provided the context of Amsterdam, necessary in building a foundation for exploring this dense and lively place. The guide was down to earth and was well studied but not robotic or scripted. He included personal flare, a passionate way of story telling, and asked us questions allowing the experience to be engaging and adapted to our group. He managed to recall detailed facts and wove together the fibres of Amsterdam’s fruition, all while driving a boat through areas allowing us to see the commentary come to life in front of us! He spoke to Amsterdams social context, history, achievements and downfalls. As a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, I was enamoured when he discussed the history of a gay memorial, a spot that other guests said their previous tours hadn’t mentioned. The guide did an excellent job of relating Amsterdam to various home countries of our group and managed to weave in storied from WWII, the 1400-1500s, modern day social context of Amsterdam, the economy, architecture, city design, restaurant and activity recommendations. Ina edition: The boat ride itself was a lovely relaxing way of seeing the city: It provided a perspective, unique from that when cycling or walking. I, unfortunately, have forgotten our guides name, but i can tell you that he is from South Africa, has been living in Amsterdam for 10 years, and he moved to Amsterdam for love. Thank you for the passionate and inspiring tour!

Amazing guys! Very nice experience, only few people on the boat which makes it a bit ‘private’ than the other huge touristic boats. The driver, which is also the tour guide, was talking to us during the whole tour, we had lots of fun and nope, it’s not the classic boat tour you get in Amsterdam, it’s special! You can also have drinks on the boat. I’ll be back for sure :)

Absolutely amazing canal tour. Had a blast with our captain who was very funny and had great stories to share about Amsterdam. The boat was open with just 6 people in total so it felt social and intimate at the same time. We took the tour at 6 PM which gave us amazing views both before and after the sunset. These guys were kind enough to allow us to use the restroom before and after the ride. We also met coco, the cat at the store which was also delightful!

A very nice experience, more expensive than some other tours with bigger boats, but 100% worth it. A small open boat and our captain (lee) was super nice. You can bring your own drinks and food and you can suggest were you want to go, and the captain will consider this. Personally I am very happy that I chose those Dam Boat Guys and I would totaly recommend them.

Super fun tour. Both the guys at the office and the guide on the boat were fun and kind all the time. You really feel welcome in the family. I recommend this place if you are looking for a fun, alternative boat tour in Amsterdam. Good prices and dog friendly!

This boat tour was easily one of the highlights of my trip to Amsterdam. Seeing the city from the canals was an interesting perspective, and Those Dam Boat Guys’ small group sizes were a wonderful find after seeing all the packed, impersonal, 100+ person tour boats. The guide was funny and welcoming, and her stories about Amsterdam had me excited to explore more back on land. The weather was a bit chilly, so they had blankets, and it was incredibly customizable and interactive. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company for a tour if you’re visiting! Bonus: they’re dog friendly!

These guys are great. Just so down to earth, friendly and make the tour fun. Provide blankets and hot water bottles too. They get everyone talking (it’s only a small boat , so it makes that easy) and share things about themselves. It’s easy to ask questions and interact . So much better than these big corporate tour. If you are coming to Amsterdam - use these guys mateys

I’ve done tours with them a few times now, and it’s always a great experience. Today we had David, who was fantastic. He’s funny, super knowledgeable, and really good at engaging with everyone. It’s a boat with like eight random people and sometimes small groups can be hard. This was not, it was a great time.

Absolutely amazing experience, by far the best boat ride through Amsterdam I've had, it was that good we booked again for the last day for a chilled way to end the day. Hosts are amazing, providing plenty of laughs along the way, plenty of useless but interesting facts about the canals and houses. Plus plenty of useful information too, go be a pirate get your greenery and go get high in the best possible way. Will definitely be back next time

We got lost finding their office, and missed our chosen timing. These guys readily slotted us onto their next available cruise without fuss. Our captain, Michael delivered the history of Amsterdam and its canals with a huge dose of humour. I would recommend these boat guys without hesitation! The cafe opp their office serves up a strong cuppa too.

These Dam Boat Guys were awesome!! If you’re looking for the scripted touristy tour you get everywhere else, please don’t waste your money. If you want some very cool group of people, who are laid back, personable, and will make sure you have a great time, spend the extra money and book with these guys! We stopped by the main office 30 min before and met Jesse and a couple others there. They were all awesome. Went through everything and offered to purchase some drinks before hand. When we got on the boat, we met our Captain Larva. He was a wealth of knowledge and made the experience even better. He asked what we all wanted out of the tour and adjusted it to the groups liking. He opened windows for us (per our request) and gave us all blankets to stay warm and use during a semi chilly night. We learned so much about the city and would recommend doing this the first day in Amsterdam to help adjust your trip. The folks with us took notes of places he mentioned and were going to visit them before they left. At the end, we tipped the captain and then went back to office to buy a tshirt and koozie it was so good. HIGHLY recommended to pay more for this tour than others. We plan to come back with family and do it again.

Booked last minute (less than 12 hours notice). The team was great, Lee our Captain was perfect. Just enough information. Regardless of where you are from - I highly recommend. If you are from the US or Canada - even better!

Joel was a very welcoming captain. I liked that the tour was not scripted as on the big canal cruises. During the tour he showed us some secret spots and taught us about the history of the city ans it's beautiful architecture. In between we had nice small talk and bad dad jokes. The staff in the office were also really cool lads/ladies. Would recommend this tour to everyone who wants a different tour, and by different I mean it in the most positive way. We had so much fun and the time flew by. Thanks again guys!

The best boat tour company in Amsterdam. By an landslide. Intimate group sizes, best tour guides on the planet. Funny but above all, they know everything about the beautiful city of Amsterdam. Every tour with them has been different and so entertaining. Glad they can finally operate again ... Amsterdam is not the same without Those Dam Boat Guys!

Amazing boat tour! Had a lovely guide who was a classical guitarist that expertly guided us around Amsterdam in a fun and relaxed way. It was the highlight of our first day here. Had a lot of historical and current knowledge of the city that answered all our questions. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

We had Morgan as our Captain and she really made the boat tour 10/10. She was not only our captain but our tour guide too and had an abundance of knowledge to go with her go-happy and friendly personality. We only had 5 people only our tour (including my partner and I) so it felt very personalised and unique. We took our own booze but you can preorder food and drink from the guys when you’re booking. For anyone going to Amsterdam wanting to see the city from another perspective, I would 100% recommend. Thanks again Morgan, you really made our first day in Amsterdam very enjoyable!

Awesome tour, the guide was knowledgeable and could answer any questions we had. The guys in the office were very responsive and accommodating. The small groups makes it feel private. Would recommend to anyone visiting Amsterdam!

Had a personal touch. Unlike the common boats filled with lots of people (nothing against them) it was like a private small boat. Friendly conversations throughout the ride with some random interesting insights about the city. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for something more from their canal cruise experience:)

Absolutely the BEST time on tour with Joel. Kind, knowledgeable and overall fantastic host for our group. Shop staff was super engaging as well; Jesse, Vinny, the whole TDBG crew were a treat. Two-ish hour tour and felt very satisfied 💯 great price to split with friends or family

100% recommend this boat tour. Lee was our tour guide and she was so informative and super friendly. She went out of her way to show us things that other tour boats just wouldn't make the effort to show. Being smaller boats it's a much more personal experience and seemed much more authentic than being in a bigger boat. If you visit Amsterdam then this is the boat tour for you! Book ahead and you won't be disappointed.

Can’t recommend these guys enough! From the booking experience (where you’ll have a good chuckle at their banter) to the tour - so friendly, helpful and pure genuine good humour. It isn’t scripted or staged, just good conversation and a bloody good time!
