Before I get started: I have eaten at over 20 fine dining restaurants and was very very excited to go to Papa Thang, because I live Thai Food when its thought differently than pad thai. Soooo.. first of all, the food itself is decent. The ingredients taste fresh and the preparation is somewhat special. The roasted cabbage for example was outstanding BUT most dishes were not mindblowing. The notion that its streetfood merged with fine dining might be reflected in the menu, i.e. the selection of dishes, but everything else is straight up ridiculous. The portions are hilariously tiny for what you pay. Expect tapas, not meals. We paid 180€ for 4 people and tbh Papa Thang turned out to be the kind of experience that people who never had a good fine dining experience make fun of. Besides, the service is slow. We had a table at 6:45, left at 9 and took the desserts home with us because it took them 45 mins to bring us the desserts. The desserts were a joke too, I have had much better desserts and I am willing to pay a lot but the portions were for little kids. Also, the drinks were mediocre at best. Overall, Service and Atmosphere were not it and we won’t go back again. I wouldnt recommend.

Papa Thang offers a fusion menu of Vietnamese flavours with a lot of twists. The dishes come in small portion for tasting so you need to order a few to fill your stomach. So if you are familiar with big portions and original Vietnamese tastes, you will be surprised. The spare ribs is the highlight, it is really flavourful and even have charred mark that resembles the grilled pork chop in Vietnamese ‘Cơm sườn’. We ordered rice to have along and they paired well. The mackerel sashimi is refreshing for an appetizer but too small for a main dish. The ‘Banh xeo’ has an excellent crispy skin. The dipping sauce is spot on with all necessary flavor. The beef filling was however quite dry and could have been cooked a bit less. Pork slices and prawns are better protein. I ordered the Goat cheese cheesecake and found it surprisingly good. The rosemary taste goes well with the heavy goat milk taste. The cracked pepper was however not tasted clearly. One strange thing about the design is the use of joss papers as plate cloths. Usually they are burnt for offering. I would suggest a different materials for the decoration purpose. Lastly the cost is a bit on the high side in comparison with the portion sizes. I would prefer bigger portions.

This I our first time to this restaurant. It is family own and run by a father and son team. The restaurant is nicely decorated and located by the cannel. The owner was so patience as to explain the menu and also concerns about any special dietary needs. One might be wonder his wine selection...mainly from Spain. That's because he used to live in Spain and own a restaurant there. Anyway, the foods we had were amazing and we had a wonderful time there. By the way, the dessert is a must try.

Many vegan options and lots of variety! Love the creative and modernised menu. The exciting dishes and taste is worth the journey! Waterside dining in a new neighbourhood, lots of parking and sunshine. We also appreciate the effort to bring the cozy Vietnamese/French decor into the interior. Very spacious too! We dined in and take-out at the same time. There is always space to eat more delicious food 😀.

I've visited more than fifty countries, and in those countries I've eaten just about anything that fits in my mouth. But I have never seen food in a restaurant that seems so simple at first glance and turns out to be such a complex and incredibly delicious composition on closer inspection. It's impressive how styles from all over the world are combined here to create a new experience. You simply must have eaten here when you visit the Netherlands.

This is my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam! Papa Thang, the chef and owner, is so passionate about the food, you can taste it! Every dish is so perfectly balanced. Every dish is as pleasing to the eyes as it is pleasing to the palate! I always try to find every excuse to visit!

place has been on my list and finally made when I came back to Amsterdam. Upon walking in the staff is welcoming and accommodating I had a reservations and 6:30pm on a Wednesday, it was not busy but it was also very cold out they also had out door seating so when the weather is nice I’m sure they are packed. Menu is in Dutch and English. I ordered a mango colada, and a classic margarita to start ( yes 2 for me ) the margarita was good mango colada was a bit milky for my taste. I got Yucca Fries which were amazing I highly recommend. Also Octopus, Spare Ribs and soft shell crab. Octopus was so good nice and soft and taste very fresh. Ribs were nice and the crab was tasteful as well. I have no complaints about the food. The decor is pretty nice and unique I highly recommend this place I’ll definitely be back to try more off the menu.

Fantastic meal! We are staying in the Yotel and were looking for somewhere for dinner. This place had good reviews so we tried it out. A 7 minute walk from the hotel and we are so glad we went. The menu consists of tapas so you order a few things. Our favourite was definitely the Yuca fries. Everything was amazing, the owner was telling us that he used to have a fine dining restaurant in Barcelona so there is some fine dining influence, we have just gotten back to the hotel and had to leave a review immediately.

Papa Thang in Amsterdam is our new top pick for delicious food. Tucked away in a peaceful corner of Amsterdam Noord, it's a true hidden gem. His dishes are crafted with love, care, and a dash of creativity. This ain't your typical Vietnamese joint – they put a twist on the cuisine. His shared dining idea is a blast, letting you savor various Vietnamese flavors. We went all out, trying nearly everything on the menu. Everything was outstanding, from main courses to desserts. So we doubled down on our orders! The place itself rocks a traditional Hoian vibe, giving me some hometown feels. Mister Papa Thang himself was a real sweetheart, open to chat and sharing his startup tales. Papa Thang's got our hearts, and everyone in or passing through Amsterdam should try his amazing food at least once!

Tapas style menu, good flavours, small portions. We didn't have a reservation so they placed us at the bar although there were plenty of empty tables. We didn't really understand this kind of policy. Oh wel..

My friend and I were doing our own food tour in the North side of Amsterdam. We both had Papa Thang saved in google maps, so we made a quick reservation (15 min) to secure our seats. We first ordered the squid, this was delish! The taste was very well balanced. It was also grilled so i had a BBQ flavor in my mouth throughout the whole food tasting experience which i like very much! Then we were ordering a few more dishes: the mackerel shasimi, the napa cabbage and carpaccio. They were all very delicious and well spiced the only comment we had was that the little salt flakes were not needed at all because everything was already well seasoned. The white wines was very delicious and especially the espresso martini! Not everyone knows how to make a good espresso martini! The owner was very friendly and funny and the rest of the staff worked very hard and stay calm throughout our experience. Definitely a must try! And we can’t wait for the sunday BBQ events! So keep an 👁 on their IG page🤗

Great food, definitely would recommend! My favorite was the broken eggs. The owner talked to us and was very passionate about food and the restaurant. Very friendly! He explained that the food is a mix of traditional Vietnamese, tapas and fine dining, which is exactly what we got. He suggested 2-4 dishes a person and in the end we had 6 dishes and 2 rice for the 3 of us and that was enough.

Looking for where to eat delicious in Amsterdam, I was fortunate to find this magic place, built with a lot of love and detail, it is just a reflection of the soul of the food that you can enjoy here. Long live Papa Thang.

We had an unforgettable dinner at Papa Thang's, so much so that we couldn't stop talking about it for two days. We were very impressed by the variety of dishes, there's something for everybody, and the flavors were out of this world, truly remarkable. Thang is a genuine talent, and his global food experience translates into a wonderful dining experience. Do yourself a favor and give it at try!

Original, creative and tasty vietnamese dishes. I had the eggplant with mushrooms and broken egg. Nice staff as well. Will try the other dishes next time!

Watch out: Thang's street food is next level ! We went to the restaurant, quite randomly, by choosing the most inspiring street food we could find nearby us on google maps. I knew Vietnamese street food, but, Thang didn't just stay traditional, he bring his creativity and his inspirations he gathered by traveling around the world and he is really talented to mix the textures & flavors. I wish i would be able to come back and test the whole menu as it was one of the best vietnamese street food fusion i ever ate. Thank you Thang and your crew for this incredible experience !

One of my favorite new places in Amsterdam (Noord). Amazing flavors, it's clear how much thought and love Thang puts in each dish. Everything on the menu is worth to try (due to the shared dining concept it's easy to try everything). There are options for a gluten-free/vegetarian/vegan diet as well.

Very tasty food. Contemporary take on traditional South East Asian flavours. A compact international crew under the lead of a very driven Chef. The place is a hidden jem looking out over the water. The emphasis lies on flavour and texture so don't expect to be eating stomach filling portions of noodles. This place is laid back and not overly formal. They are still working on fitting out the place in terms of decoration but the ambiance is already quite tangible. One can sit down or take out.

I had the most amazing evening at Papa Thang. The food was amongst the best I have ever had and the service, by the loveliest personnel, was impeccable. We had 8 dishes and several drinks. Would recommend all courses, but my favorites were the mackerel, the octopus and the cabbage. If you are in Amsterdam, don’t miss out on this restaurant. Looking forward to coming back!
