Let me tell you a story.I, a solo traveling woman, arrive mid day at a mid sized hostel in an amazing location in Amsterdam. I’m exhausted, so I quickly put away my things and go to sleep in my pod. First, I notice blood on the comforter. I ask for a replacement, and management provides one. Feeling good, I head to sleep. Only, I awake at 4:30 PM to see a bed bug cuddled up with me! I show the bed bug to management, and they tell me they take this complaint seriously but all they do is offer me the choice to switch to a unisex floor or to change my sheets. After talking to other travelers at this hostel, they tell me bed bugs have been persistent across the hostel, so there’s really no escaping it. Thus, I opt to change my sheets. Every night in this hostel, I toss and turn, knowing in my heart I’m being unconsensually snug with some bed bugs! During the day, I’m fatigued and have a loss of interest in the vacation I had worked hard to afford, as I’m constantly paranoid that there are bed bugs on me. At the end of my stay, I tell management about my complaint, and they assure me they’ll contact the higher ups. However, I don’t hear back from management ever. This unfortunately is the story of my time at the Bee Hostel. Should I have gone to another hostel? Perhaps. But I’m literally just a girl! Should I have demanded a refund? I tried to, to no avail. Now I’m on the way back home, all bitten up and bitter. Count your days, The Bee Hostel. God sees the way you have treated your vulnerable guests, and God does not favor cheats.

This was my first time traveling alone and I am very glad I chose The Bee hostel for my stay. I spent two nights in the "Room for Women". The hostel is clean, very comfortable. And the staff is very nice and welcoming. I also liked the neighborhood where the hostel is located, it is quiet but close to the city center. So I recommend to visit :)

The property has a severe bed bug infestation. We were told that 'bed bugs are to be expected- it's Amsterdam' and that 'bed bugs dont move between beds.' They offered to move us from the female dorm to a mixed dorm that had recently been treated for bed bugs, so it is likely the infestation has now spread across multiple floors. The property refused to provide us with a full refund (despite leaving after just one night) and the hostel manager dealt with us very rudely. Please note this is the first negative review I have ever left- I just want to make others aware that they should avoid this hostel at all costs!!

The hostel was very clean and the staff super friendly. I arrived too early and they even let me check-in at around 11. The beds in the women sector have a curtain which makes it also a private sleeping experience. I can totally recommend a stay here!

Stayed in the women’s floor. Everything seemed brand new and was very clean. The lockers were large enough to fit my rucksack and the lock was controlled by the wristband which I thought was quite cool. The bed is cozy and private once the curtain is closed. Since it’s summertime, the room does get a little bit hot but it got better when the weather cooled down. I met a few people while staying here but if you like to keep to yourself I think this place is great too.

I stayed 4 nights during ADE, the hostel was very clean with very friendly staff, Catalina was very helpful and kind. The bed is very comfortable and you can tell the duvet and pillow are brand new. Shower had hot/cold water and good pressure. The hostel is located in a good area which is close to most of tourist sites. By a short walk you can have everything from exchange office to grocery shopping or very busy jazz cafes. You can can also use the common shared space with some small chairs and table to work and socialize. WIFI is provided for free and speed is good. I travel quite a lot and this has been one of the best hostel I've stayed in so far. I am coming back in January for sure.

TL;DR: Pros - Kind staff, great location, new facilities, automated lockers. Cons - not comfortable enough, horrible ladders (painful, sliding), won’t recommend the mixed area for women who come alone, toilet not clean enough, general lack of hygiene mainly due to the men staying in the mixed area. Also it was a little cold. To be more specific: Biggest issue in my opinion as a young woman was the Mixed sleeping zone. there was no space in the ladies area so had to sleep at the mixed one for 4 nights (and pay the same price which was not so cheap). it was very bad as there were older man, mostly drunk, bad smells, and almost none of the men washed their hands when finishing with the toilet, which is dangerous and disgusting! There were also a lot of missing spaces you can usually find in other hostels - a small sitting area in the sleeping zone, a table or something levitating so your things won’t have to go on the floor if you want to organize them; and people were struggling, dropping stuff, and it is also not hygienic to put luggage on hostel floors. Additionally the climbing ladders are very uncomfortable - always hurting my hands leaving marks, sliding (even slid and fell once), and too close to curtains that are not ever cleaned. Another major issue was that the hostel didn’t allow mingling almost at all, and it was quite cold (also literally) and it was really hard to meet people and have conversations that were not forced. for a solo traveler as me it was hard, and I didn’t actually get to hang out with anyone from the hostel although trying to meet and make conversations, which I was very sad about. most hostels allow more than one gathering option for the people who stay, and it didn’t happen here.

The hostel is very clean and well maintained. The staff was always helpful and very friendly. I can't say anything about the food there, as I always ate in the city. The only thing I didn't understand was why the dorm windows could only be opened by the staff using a key? But that wasn't actually a problem because the ventilation system didn't make the air really stuffy even overnight. All in all very good :)

Best hostel ever!!! Everything was clean, the stuff were friendly and helpful, the location is really the best in Amsterdam. The room was very nice and comfy. Great experience for us! We will be back for sure !

I didn't pay so I can't speak to the value for money, but it was very clean, and the staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The dorm rooms are small but the beds are comfortable and come with lockers. There were two toilets and two showers for about 15 or so people which could be an issue for some, but it was never a problem for me. Also, is in a great part of town, away from the touristy parts. Would definitely recommend to others.

I had a great stay here. The rooms were clean and quiet as were the bathrooms. The bed was comfortable and had everything you might need including a light, outlet plug and place to store items. The lockers were close to beds and a good size. The location is great as you’re right next to the tram, very central but also quiet neighborhood. The staff was very nice and informative about things to do. I accidentally left my debt card and the staff and manager especially went above and beyond to make sure i got it back. I would definitely recommend staying in this hostel and will stay here again when I’m back in Amsterdam.

Had a great stay at the hostel! Staff was super friendly, great location by the zoo and restaurants, easy tram stops and check-in went very smoothly. Bed was comfortable and amenities are clean and modern. Lobby is a cozy place to hang out and have coffee, or get some work done.

I could not fault this hostel! Very impressed! The cleanliness was outstanding. We stayed in the women's only room which had 3 toilets and 2 showers. Each shower had a small space next to it so you can get changed privately. There is also a hairdryer in the bathroom area. The beds were comfortable and had curtains that pulled across for privacy. Inside each bed cubicle was an electric socket, a light and a pouch for keeping belongings. The communal area was lovely and beautifully decorated. There were a few tables and comfy chairs to sit on and relax. Food and drink available (including gluten free options). There was always someone on the reception desk. We will be coming back!! Thank you Bee Hostel!!

I had a great stay. When I arrived the staff were super helpful, and explained everything. The storage gas enough space for my luggage which was amazing. The bathrooms are cleaned at least once a day, and the staff is at the reception 24/7, so they are always there to help in any way possible. 10/10 would stay there again.

This was my first ever hostel experience. I give very high rating for cleanliness, quiet, and convenience. Tram arrives just around the corner. I enjoyed stay in the women’s only wing, but there are larger areas upstairs for both men and women. Each bed has privacy curtain, clean linens, reading light, and an outlet for charging phone etc.

Only stayed for one night but really enjoyed my stay! The front desk clerks were really friendly and helpful. The sleeping compartment had a curtain and was really private. It also had a towel rack, outlet, personal light, and little mesh spot for glasses or your phone all inside. The lockers were easy to use and felt secure, and were large enough for my duffel and my backpack no problem. There were even some hangers for everyone to put their jackets. The bathrooms were really clean and felt super private. Didn't feel very social but I was only there for one night and wanted to sleep so that worked for me! Definitely would come back again.

I really enjoyed my time as The Bee Hostel. I guess it depends when you visit, but my experience was that this hostel is more of a relaxed vibe, and not a party hostel (which I loved). I was actually amazed how silent it was during the nights. I got great sleep. The bathrooms/showers were really clean. Everything is super new and functional. The location is also great, it is about 20 minutes walking to central Amsterdam or a 5 minute tram. Extremely easy. I also had dinner one evening at the Pizzeria across the street and that was delicious too. I would recommend this spot.

Being a first timer staying in a hostel, would say this place is an excellent choice. Pristine clean beds and bathrooms. Was apprehensive of the bed bug issues posted by other users. But I didn’t encounter any. Beds were so comfortable and long enough for a 6.2 tall guy. Curtains provide you the much needed privacy. Room had an AC but at times in the evening it got much cooler. The beds at the top are tougher to climb. You need to be flexible enough and strong to climb. My cabin’s light wasn’t working. Hence they luckily changed my bed to a middle one which was convenient. Bathrooms and toilet were almost free always. Locker facilities were good. Location was excellent. 10 mins to the center by tram. Tram stop is 2 mins walk from the hostel. Also there are nearby excellent cafés and breakfast places. Overall highly recommended.

The hostel is centrally located in the Plantage district, a very nice area with good little restaurants and cafés all around, you're in the heart of Amsterdam in no more than 15 minutes on foot, you can do everything by walking from the hostel. The rooms are perfect, we have privacy, it's super clean, the bathrooms are very clean and well equipped, it's really upscale for a hostel so very satisfied!

I stayed here from 11/20 - 12/2, so I had plenty since the average say is only 2-3 days. I had a excellent experience and highly recommend this hostel. It wasn't corwded since it is off season for tourism. The entire hostel is spotless and the staff are helpful. Everything seems new and at only $50 a night, it's a great value. It's chill, quiet and in a great family neighborhood as others have said. If you're looking for a place to stay that is a terrific location and affordable, this is the hostel for you!

This was a lovely hostel stay. I chose an all ladies dorm, which I appreciated. The bunks were clean with a curtain for full privacy. There was a locker large enough to store my carry-on roller bag. The bathrooms were nice, and I never had to wait for a shower. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for me. It was a bit out of the super busy downtown area but still very close to the tram, which provided transportation everywhere in Amsterdam. There were several great restaurants nearby that I visited at the end of a long day, and it was nice that they were so close to the hostel and I could go right there afterward. I really hope this place is available next time I'm in Amsterdam. Highly recommend for solo female travelers.

Ladies only room is super clean and having an inside bathroom made me feel safe. The staff are very friendly - especially Catalina, who made me feel welcomed since day 1. The location is great as there are buses on the same street and metro within walkable distance. No need to bring lockers as the card for the room is the same to unlock your storage unit. Highly recommended if traveling solo!

This is a very nice option for solo travellers or small friend groups. The 3 of us stayed in the female dormitory and had our "own" area, which was nice. The beds are very comfortable and have curtains so you have lots of privacy despite the fact that youre in a dormitory. The hostel is easlity reachable by tram, which is 2mins walking distance. It is very clean and quiet. The banana bread is fantastic! What I did not like is that much was that the common area was right outside of one dormitory, so in the evening, we had nowhere to go to talk (we could talk quietly there, but it is not the same once you get passionate in a board game which is offered by the hostel). Also there was no fridge or kitchen area with a kettle where one could freely make some tea. All in all i found it a bit too expensive considering the last two points were lacking, but still a very good choice as the city is expensive in general and the beds are very comfy!

This is a great little hostel find! It's tucked away in the centre, far enough away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, but also close enough for you to easily access these places too. The facilities were clean and modern. Comfy bunks too. My only slight improvement would be the reduction in price for water. A 330ml can of water is charged at 3€ which is higher than in cafes and shops. Perhaps an alternative brand.. Otherwise, when I return to Amsterdam I will definitely stay there again

We loved the bee hostel 🫶🐝 1. everything was very clean including the rooms, beds , toilets.. 2. The stuff was very friendly and helpful 3. The location was really well connected to every attraction in Amsterdam. For conclusion it was a great experience for us! We will be back for sure !

Centrally located - most places walkable from here. Staff was super kind! Place was clean and for the most part the other guests were pretty amazing. We stayed on the 4th floor - mindful of luggage as it’s a walk up, spiraling staircase, making the steep climb with luggage a bit of a hassle - but manageable for sure. 2nd staircase available for taking luggage down which is more spacious. Wish there were more bathrooms but no regrets!

I had a great stay at The Bee Hostel for 3 nights, this was my first time staying in a hostel. And I loved the friendly environment. The staff and guests were warming. Gabi at the front desk were amazing, and so the other staff. Love the group chat with local places and fun activities. The location is close the Horto and zoo and 15min walking distance from to near central station. The bathrooms are a little tiny, and sometimes I could hear my neighboor snoring, but reminds me that I make noise too. Great Community. Thank you Bees!

It was so much better than expected! Everything looks like the pictures. It’s very clean, the staff is friendly, the rooms still provide some privacy with curtains on every bed, it’s modern, has AC and the whole atmosphere is just amazing! The WI-FI works perfectly fine.

I’ve stayed in the hostel for 2 weeks and a half, so you can definitely trust my review 🙃 Both the unisex and the ladies only dorms are very nice, everything is clean and brand new + the location is very good. Most of all, every single person in the staff is really nice, kind and welcoming! Nothing to complain about!

Really nice little hostel! Very clean, comfortable beds and nice bathroom. The staff girls are amazing, I felt very welcome. I wish there was a little kitchen area, not for cooking but for a least make a sandwich and put your yogurt in the fridge.

Cost of stay per night was very poor value for money (over 67 euro in mid-October). Room slept more than four people and the upper bed was extremely difficult (and somewhat dangerous) to reach. The built-in ladder to get up to the bed was too shallow, not enough depth for a firm footing. Major potential for falling from high up (beds are stacked 3 high) and serious injury. Hostel was also very cramped, too small to suit its purpose. There should be fewer beds and beds should not be stacked more than 2 high. Also, no self-catering facilities - some limited facilities like a refrigerator, food cupboards and kettles, coffee makers and microwave ovens would have been useful in a city such as Amsterdam where the cost of restaurant food is relatively high. And due to the lack of such facilities, breakfast should be included in the cost of the bed for each night of stay, not just for the first night. Generally, a premium rate was paid with no premiums or extras offered. Some positive notes: Very clean hostel. Everything in new pristine condition, modern looking and also quiet. Not a party hostel so noise and disturbances from other guests is generally not an issue. The staff seem to keep the place under control so you don't have to worry much about rowdiness or excessive noise late at night. Rental bike was excellent - was great for long rides in and around the city. Location in a quieter part of the city also a good point. Moreover, the hostel reception staff are generally polite, friendly and professional. Electronic bracelet for entry was great, no need for a card to pull out of your wallet.

This is a very lovely hostel, the staff is super friendly. I stayed in the female dorm, it was very clean and quiet, good air conditioning. The mattress and pillow were really comfy, the only downside was having to make the bed myself, it's a struggle when you're on the top bed and I felt like I was making too much noise at night. But everything else was superb. I loved the blackout curtains, it feels like you have some privacy. Clean toilets and nice shower stalls, towel is included in the price but you better bring your own shower gel. As for the location - it's a 30 min walk to the city center or the Museums. There is a nice breakfast place around the corner 'Box Sociaal'.

  • 5/5 Jackie H. 11 months ago on Google
This is a really great hostel. One of the cleanest I've ever stayed in. The beds have basically black out curtains which came in very handy. The location is decent. You are still a mile from Amsterdam central, Anne Frank House, Van Gogh museum, red light district, etc.. Many tours leave from Amsterdam Central and those areas, so keep that in mind. There is no laundry facility on site. The one they recommended is .6 of a mile away and very bare bones. There's a couple restaurants, coffee shops, and a souvenir shop close by. They sell drinks. Overall a really great hostel and I do recommend it.

Great hostel in a nice and quiet part of the city (but walkable to everywhere). Comfortable beds, everything was clean, lockers were a good size. Super helpful staff and nice vibe in the common area. Would only add that a place to hang coats in the bedroom would be super useful in the rainy weather. But could not fault the hostel, would definitely return if I’m back in the city

clean but tiny hostel! we had a nice stay at the bee hostel and really liked it! only minus is that there are only two sinks and showers for 20 people and also there were no real windows to open for fresh air! Super nice and helpful staff! All in all for a hostel a great experience!

  • 4/5 Luana B. 10 months ago on Google
I stayed there last week and overall all the staff were very helpful, the place is cleaned daily and also everything looks very new and modern. The wifi is good and I was able to work every day from the reception area. It is important to know that it is a small hostel so there are about 3 desks where you can work. My only criticism is that there is no elevator and for those with a backpack carrying a few bags it is quite complicated because the stairs are narrow and dangerous and I had not seen that in the photos. But that's not what would make me not come back. I ended up forgetting my ipad at the hostel when I left and they promptly attended to me when I needed help and on the same day they sent it to me by mail. I am immensely grateful for this gesture and recommend the stay with just this detail.

I had a fantastic stay at this hostel! The cleanliness and modern atmosphere really stood out. The employees were exceptionally helpful, and I have to give a special shoutout to the intern Elise for going above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. The showers were top-notch, and the private curtains on the bunk beds added that extra touch of privacy that made a big difference. I highly recommend this hostel for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Amazing hostel! I stayed in the all-female dorm (there were around 20-30 people in the dorm so it did feel a bit crowded at times, but otherwise was totally fine). It was very clean and beds were comfortable. There's curtains for privacy and each bed also has a small light and plug so you can charge your phone/electronics. There were two showers and three toilets — I never had to wait in line to use either which was nice. I also really liked how your key card unlocks the main door of the hostel (made it feel a lot more secure). It also unlocks your dorm door and locker door (my carry on and backpack fit well inside). The location is excellent as you're staying in a quiet neighbourhood but still easily able to get to the city centre (you just take Tram 14 to Central Station; the tram stop is just a minute away from the hostel). Overall, really enjoyed my stay!

I love this place! Located just outside of the canals; it's a great place to get to all areas around Amsterdam... Check-in was as smooth as could be. The rooms are bright and clean; I was alone by myself during my visit. Bathrooms were clean well-maintained. Gabriella was a wonderful hostess and very nice to chat with... I would totally come back here; I hope to!

Beautiful and quite place. The guys at the reception are great. Also beds and pillows are very comfortable. They give you one universal card-key for all the doors. I would love to stay again at the bee hostel again.

Me and my friends spent a great time in the hostel. The staff were very helpful friendly and were able to give us good information about the area and what to do in the area. The accommodation was clean, the beds were well maintained and the roommates were very well behaved. Nonetheless, there were two major aspects that I wished I knew earlier: 1.) The Toilets. On each floor there were three rooms with nine beds (27 guests) and two toilets. During our visit a toilet broke so we had to endure the weekend with only one, which was very annoying as you can imagine. 2.) The Check-in / chill area. The check-in counter and the chill area consisted of a long room about the size of. 70m^2 and space for a maximum of 20 guests. Since there were no tables or chairs in the bedrooms, many people went to the chill area to be able to talk to each other, which of course came with restrictions, as the hotel can accommodate 100 guests but only 20 of them had a place to sit. In summary, I had a nice time at Bee Hostel with cool people and helpful staff. Nevertheless, the hotel seems only half-finished and shows its shortcomings. It would be perfect if there were 9 fewer beds on each floor and instead there was a small "chill area" for the guests. This would also reduce the toilet problem.

By far my favorite hostel I’ve stayed at. As a young female traveler, I felt extremely safe here, the staff was welcoming and helpful, the common area was homey and the beds were not only comfortable but with the curtain, they were private. Overall, a very well organized hostel and the staff even provides you with ways to connect with other guests if you are solo traveling or just want to meet friends.
