Dam and the lake is beautiful and very impressive. It is free to walk around and visit it because it is sitting right on the highway. Very crowded and might be traffic jams nearby. Hard to find parking. Too bad they don’t let people upstairs the tower for super view of the lake. There is security guard watching the dam.

Great panoramic view, also you can find there stairs to get to the observation platform, you can fear a bit during elevation process but it's worth it because panorama you will get there is even better - you will be able to see gorge on the left and the basin on the right.

Vidraru Dam is a spectacular construction built during Romania’s communist period to create the Vidraru artificial lake. The dam was completed in 1966, after about five years of work, with the main purpose of producing hydroelectric power. It stands at an impressive 166 meters high and has a length of 305 meters, making it one of the largest dams in Romania and an important engineering achievement of its time. More than 5,000 workers contributed to the project, working in difficult mountain conditions and through 42 kilometers of tunnels carved into the rock. When it was finished, Vidraru Dam ranked 8th in Europe and 20th in the world for its size. The surrounding landscape is simply stunning, the Fagaras Mountains, dense forests, and the shimmering blue waters of the lake create a breathtaking panorama. Words can hardly describe the view, it’s something you truly have to see with your own eyes.
