We were floating through town on business and tried this restaurant randomly and soley based on the reviews - our favorite way to eat. We had the Spinach Salad and the Bourbon BBQ Burger with fries and I am pleased to say that they were both fantastic and super high quality. Would definitely recommend this place if you were looking for a new place to try. Plenty of seating and really good service!

Fast service-always available. Never let me down. Pool tables are great, seats hurt my butt, lol. Decent food for a bar. I keep coming back here because it’s a safe place to get a drink and maybe a bite. I’m updating this because recently the food has been lacking seasoning: maybe it always has and I’ve been lit. Lemon pepper wings were drenched in lemon pepper I couldn’t eat one. My chicken sandwich had no seasoning, no sauce just dry and regular. I wasn’t pleased with it. Good size and quantity, onion rings great but I think they should taste their own food and do a revamp on some things to tighten up!

This has the feel of your go-to neighborhood bar with tasty food and fun, friendly service. I love that they have the option for ample outdoor seating, although I sat inside because I also love the spacious wooden booths. All in all, I enjoyed my visit and the service was great. I look forward to frequenting this place in the future.

Pretty tasty watering hole with some South African flavor. We had brunch and overall, twas good. They did get our eggs wrong, but the preparation was good none the less. The service was fun and friendly and the beer selection was good. We're going to try the chicken curry some time.

Great atmosphere and the workers are pleasant as well. For a bar, the food is AWESOME!!!! I ordered a steak, fries and salad. My mouth was so happy with the steak. I also ordered a to go seafood pasta. My daughter enjoyed her burger as well. This was definitely a great find on Google! And please try the drink menu 🤗🤗🤗

Very poor and classless customer experience tonight! Very unfortunate for one of our local establishments. My husband and I frequent this establishment often to play pool and perhaps grab a late bite to eat. Food is decent and service is fair. I was HIGHLY upset we ended up leaving due to the fact there were two small toddler age children playing around the pool table area and one playing with a pool stick. Swinging it around and disrupting everyone in the pool space to where you just had to stop playing and avoid being struck with the pool stick. Me and my husband stood off to the side as patrons asked the adult with the children (allegedly their mom and was told is owner’s wife) to please not let the children play in the area for safety reasons and so they could continue playing. She went on to tell the patrons they are the owner’s children. And, she continued to let the children touch the tables and swing the stick while people were playing. My husband and I never got a chance to start our game because the one kid came over towards our table with the stick. So, to avoid any issues and being injured by the child swinging the stick, we stayed out of the way. When I went to inform an employee, they stated it was the owner’s wife and there was nothing they could do. One employee said “I totally agree it’s not safe” but the “you know how it is.” Two of the patrons even went outside to speak with someone who appeared to be connected to the restaurant to explain what happened. We ended up canceling our game and left. I was upset that we had to leave due to the fact that no one was concerned about the safety of the paying patrons and certainly the children. Playing around a pool table is never safe for any toddler or adult for that matter. Overall, the customer service here has slipped significantly since we first visited this restaurant. Glad we got to experience fun times here, but unfortunately will not be returning anytime soon. Do better Whelan owners. Look out for your customers. They are the reason why you still exist. Wishing you all the best! To sign off on a positive note, if you happen to visit, do try their “pudding” dessert. It’s good. Beware of swinging pool sticks.

I love it here. About as dive-y as you can get in Atlanta while still guaranteeing cleanliness. The bartenders are all great, and the vibe is always chill. Also, Angie makes a fanTAStic old-fashioned. TLDR: The food? Good The drinks? Good The vibe? Good Just go (but also don’t because I need it to be slow enough to ask them to make me old-fashioned’s) But they really need to add a trivia night (that is NOT just music trivia. Please solicit other companies for quotes)

So good! I had the Catfish sandwich and the curry chicken salad appetizer!!! Food was well seasoned. I ate all my fries and my friend's fries. She had the impossible burger with pepper jack cheese. She devoured it so I couldn't try that one... next time. $5 Margarita Mondays! Mmmm

I've only been once so far, but I plan to return. The wings were well cooked with a small, but somewhat unique, selection of flavors. Great atmosphere, very helpful and friendly service, and I'm excited to try bottomless mimosas sometime!

Authentic. Rustic. Friendly. Quality. Located west of midtown, it appeared to be in a bubble among the are which does not look too appealing. As far as parking, there's a parking garage right next to it as well as limited street parking. Be mindful, parking garages mean entering autos so don't be surprised if your vehicle is broken into. This establishment cannot help with that however so. Once inside, it's cozy with a few booths and a long bar for seating. There is a secondary lower level for pool and darts. Many televisions but I cannot remember if the audio was on. There's a juke box patrons can control. The pool tables are rented out by the hour not operated by coins. Very well taken care of. The food menu surprised me because they had a range from chips and salsa and fries to fish and chips and lamb chops. The portion sizes are huge which is comparative to their pricing. Their pours are good and the beers are definitely affordable. Different cocktails offered and the bartenders are friendly so ask away if they can make something. Overall, I would come back several times over. Their operating hours are appealing too.

Good burgers and good onion rings. Hard to find good onion rings. Can no longer eat here comfortably. Watched the bartender come from behind bar, pet a dog with both hands and not even think about washing her hands before continuing to serve. That’s sick behavior in a food service industry.

This place truly is Atlanta's hidden gem. I love the combination of delicious food and a laid-back atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a game of pool. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere among patrons is casual and relaxed. As for the food, the burgers are top-notch, and I highly recommend trying the Long Island.

Good beer menu with nice diversity. Plenty of space for a bar in midtown. There are a few TV screens, but I wouldn't call this a sports bar.

Food and service is STELAR…this has easily become one of my favorite tavern spots. The grilled chicken sandwich and burger are some of my everyday faves😋😋😋

Waitress seemed nice. Ordered a well done burger, still came out pink. Also didn't want pickles but they put them in anyway. The barbecue sauce did not taste like barbecue. Idk what they put in that stuff but it was the worst "barbecue" I've ever had the misfortune of tasting. Overall, pretty mid experience. The waitress and the fries were the only redeeming features here.

South African flavors were a first for me, and it they were great! I had the boerewors sandwich and it was delish! The service was great, our server answered all of our questions - we had many since it was our first time. They had card/board games and a good variety of music. I really enjoyed this place! It checked off all my boxes.

“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name” 🎶 I love this place! Great atmosphere and bar food. Unpretentious without the sticky-floor dive bar feel. Pool tables, darts, trivia and karaoke nights…what’s not to love? Thanks, Whelan Fam!

I have eaten here several times but my last experience has lead me not to return. We live in a society where an individual’s ethnicity still influences how others treat you. The service I received was not up to par. Had to chase the server down for water or even another drink both different parties around me didn’t have this problem. I don’t appreciate giving my hard earned money to an establishment that doesn’t treat me equally. I won’t be coming back solely based on customer and experience.

This used to be a go to place for me and my friends for years. Don't know what has happened here over the past 8 or 9 months, but it's nothing like it was. The food and service are nowhere near as good as they used to be. The general vibe and atmosphere are different now too, along with seemingly some of the employees. Place seems dead nowadays. The automatic 18% gratuity included is lame, too. I practically always tip at least 20%, but forcing an automatic 18% on the bill is tacky and off-putting. After several issues we have pretty much all decided that this place isn't worth the money or visit anymore. It's sad, it used to be a great spot.

If you’re a Gemini speak to Taylor she hooked us up with bday shots, it’s a cool atmosphere mixed crowed ages 23+ the food never disappoints. Also when you first walk in the door it has a note about the 18% gratuity. Street parking is available and they have a parking deck that is shared with with the neighboring apartment

Visited on a Thursday night. Me and my guest had the cheeseburgers (bacon & regular) which were amazing. The staff were all nice. We were greeted upon entering, they were attentive. They do auto gratuity here but at least they had it posted everywhere so it’s up to the patron whether to go in or not. I’d visit again.

Love The Whelan. The atmosphere is amazing, laid back, and yet still a nice place to catch a game (tvs at the bar). The customer service is also great, very nice and efficient staff. Normally I get the impossible burger, and they prepare it well (no complaints). I always get a pool table straight away, but keep in mind on Tuesdays a league plays there. 4 stars is because the last time I went, the fish and chips was not appetizing at all (putting it mildly). It had absolutely no flavor (zero seasoning used, not even salt or pepper), and the fries were soaked in grease; it seems like they took the fish straight out of the grease and placed it on fries. I do not recommend it.

Spent a few hours here playing darts and singing karaoke 🎤 😄 Plenty of fun. Wish they had a more extensive cocktail menu (5 items or so of house made drinks). They so have a full bar though

My best friend had me meet her there because it was a bar that she went to after work.... lemme just say it's got a good vibe, good drinks at good prices, and excellent food. I had a great time there and would definitely go back.

Very friendly staff! Free darts and two pool tables will provide something to do while u eat and socialize. There is an outdoor siting area as well. Music was great but not too loud where I could listen to the people I am with. Great beer selection on tap. Highly recommend trying it out. Had their hot wings and fries. Good sauce flavor for the wings and good thin fries that comes with this mayo based sauce which I quite enjoyed

Such a fun dive bar with karaoke, darts, pool tables, and good food. Super friendly and fun staff! They're always super helpful and on-top of things, even on busy nights. Well rounded crowd of people that are all looking for a fun late-night spot to go enjoy cocktails at the bar, late night bite, or some perfect "dive bar" style fun. The food is actually pretty good too. The truffle fries definitely hit the spot for late night cravings. I will definitely go back during regular hours as well. Always great to have a new addition to my “fun bar” list.

😠 DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!! Terrible service! The server cannot remember what you ordered…it cannot be that hard to write it down. Friends waited for (Hennessy) drinks…at the same table for an hour and 15min. It took the bartender 3 tries….It took over an hour to get food even with a reservation. YOU CAN...
