Wonderful people and amazing coffee. The space is super cool as well and the butcher in the back looks so good! Can’t wait to come back for lunch. Our latte and cold brew are some of the best we’ve had. Will definitely be back.

Best coffee in all of Atlanta. Hands down, my wife and I have tried all the main local roasters and shops and Academy crushes them all on pure execution of excellent coffee beverages. Plus they are connected to an amazing butcher that has some melt yo face off kinda sandwiches. If you genuinely love good quality coffee you need to got here. 🤯💥🌋

Super interesting coffee shop. The coffee was really delicious. The flavor choices were unlike almost anywhere else I’d been. Plus, they have breakfast sandwiches in the mornings. Good ones too. The only complaint I have is that, with tip… my small sandwich and coffee ran me $20. That’s a bit tough to justify. Even if it was tasty.

Best cappuccino in Atlanta, no question. Maybe even better than perfect. Other coffee shops have come close but none with the same level of consistency as Academy. The baristas are all really friendly, too. Probably because they have nothing to prove. "Easy lies the head that wears the crown" type beat. Tap in.

low key owner operated cafe with courtyard area in back. nostalgic way to get away and work or have intimate conversation. commune vibe with 80s soft rock music.

4.8 | Academy Coffee x Kinship is such a brilliant partnership. I am a big fan of the coffee and specialty / seasonal drinks here. they have not disappointed. I get their cappuccino, and the espresso pull is perfect. their bees knees drink is also quite divine. I seem to also have serious cravings for their grilled cheese. It’s probably the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had. I dare someone to challenge me on that. I also really enjoy the fact that you can snag some pretty incredible wine on your way out. They have become one of my beloved coffee shops in Atlanta. Do go if you get the chance! They don’t have much seating inside, just sort of window seats, but there’s plenty outside space and you’re of course in the heart of Virginia Highlands with much walkability and areas to hang and sit around you. All around fantastic spot to add to your ATL gems list.

Great little coffee shop alongside Kinship sandwiches in the middle of the neighborhood. I had a Zegroni, which is an americano with bourbon vanilla, peach bitters and chamomile, that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was light on coffee taste but the additions mixed well with the taste of the grounds. The baristas were very friendly as well. Not a ton of seating inside but the side nooks by the windows are comfortable to hang in for a bit and there’s ample seating outside

I've had great coffee all over the U.S. and Europe, and the world needed a mixologist's take on coffee. This place makes me miss home no matter how happy I am wherever I might be. And it's owned and staffed by some of the best people you'll ever meet.

Academy Coffee is everything you could want in a coffee shop. Super laid back vibe, a comfortable open seating area, a little coffee bar where you can sit and watch drinks being made, some really delicious sweet & savory pastries, some really interesting homemade reductions & extracts, but most importantly Connan, the owner and barista. Connan is a master of his craft and truly creates the perfect cup of coffee. My only negative with Academy is that it’s too far away from me, I need it closer!! Allow Connan to make a “surprise me” for you, because you won’t be disappointed!

Love stopping by and seeing ‘The Dude’ Coffee to him is a craft, and you can taste the difference each cup. Competitively priced, offering a superior product. You’ll never go back to chain coffee after.

Best coffee in town. I had the pleasure to speak with the owners and their passion for coffee, and dedication to sharing that passion with their customers, is something special. Get the cortado and prepare to have your mind blown.

Top 3 coffee shop in ATL. Probably the most creative coffee shop in the city, interested in who else stacks up. Connan did a riff on an Americano that I'm still thinking about, I'm not even going to lay out the recipe here that would be cheating. Their specialty drink menu (8-10 beverages) rotate every season outside of the classics.

Ordered a seasonal drink off the specials menu. Barista decided he wasn’t satisfied with his work and remade the drink at no charge. Pleasant, helpful and delicious seasonal coffee drinks.

This coffee shop has become part of my daily routine! Not only is the owner a skilled barista when it comes to coffee staples, he's created an amazing menu of cold beverages that you won't find anywhere else. My favorite drink is the Jitterbug -- a cold brew beverage with orange and ginger beer. Great location on the beltline and exceptionally friendly service.

This place was awesome. If you enjoy coffee, and haven't tried this place yet you're missing out. The concoctions were delicious and the company was inviting. My wife and I were lucky enough to get the opportunity to sit and chat with the barista for 30 minutes or so after she finished making our drinks. She was nice enough to teach us a few things about making an espresso drink. Hopefully you'll get lucky enough to have the same opportunity. If nothing else, you'll at least get some good coffee.

Easily the best coffee shop in Atlanta. The quality of the coffee/tea, the creativity and uniqueness and the menu, and the awesome staff are unmatched! Great for studying or meeting up with friends, but convenient enough of a location (with parking) to grab and go.

Quaint coffee shop with industrial-like interior. There’s street parking available and only outdoor seating. There’s also a butcher/small deli shop inside. Really wish they had indoor seating though. The Banko Gotiti Ethiopia blend had a very floral-heavy flavor profile. I did not taste the honey or brown sugar as suggested but apricot was present. Definitely had a dry aftertaste. Very enjoyable coffee if you’re a fan of floral.

For what this place is, it is awesome! This is not your everyday coffee shop in my opinion. You would go broke after a while haha. This is a place to go every once in a while to get a CRAFT coffee drink made with love and precision. The selection of drinks is always evolving. The first time I came here I got an amazing latte with freaking olive oil in it! The second time I got a fantastic latte with homemade banana syrup and bitters. Dang genius! The baristas are knowledge and kind as well. They can help steer your decision making too if you need help. Since this place also has a butcher shop in the same area, they have a pricy but awesome selection of meats and such you can buy too and when you go to the bathroom, the pig theme is great! The one downside to this place is the lack of seating inside but there is plenty of outdoor seating that isn’t bad at all if you are blessed with good weather. Again, a great choice as a treat.

small shop but easily hands-down one of the best cappuccinos I've had in the Atlanta area! almost no indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seating so go on a nice day

Awesome unique latte, super smooth and the espresso itself was good. The barista was super helpful and kind :) Some indoor working space/ table would have been nice for a longer stay. All in all, good coffee, and experience, thanks!

Best iced coffee I've had in my entire life (The Stuntman). The chai latte was also delicious, wonderfully layered flavors and foamed to perfection (The Tilly Tilly). Me and my friends were baffled how good the drinks were

Wow! The Flat White…. Out of this world good. Smooth, pleasant mouthfeel. Everything I would imagine in a perfect cup of flat white. The milk was exceptional and I loved the seasonal flavor!

The coffee here was absolutely phenomenal! I got a Cortado with oat milk and a touch of vanilla… Highly recommend this coffee shop to anybody searching for a cuppa Joe in the city of Atlanta. I even had the pleasure of talking to the owner, sweetest soul, even checked in to see how I was doing

Amazing shop. But what makes it amazing is Connan (the owner.) Not only are his skills behind the bar incredible he is a good person. Academy is hands down my favorite shop. Currently, Connan uses coffee from Onyx which you can also purchase in the retail area. I usually ask what he’s serving as far as origin and try to taste the coffee notes. Normally, I wouldn’t do that but because Connan knows exactly how to bring those notes out it makes my cappuccino even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend going to visit as soon as you can. In addition to espresso based drink you can also find other creations that aren’t coffee based. I the last time I went in I was also able to snag a pastry. Usually, they are sold out by the time I make it in. The croissant I had was quite good.

  • 5/5 Gregory G. 2 years ago on Google
Great specialty drinks - Connan is one of the best baristas ever. Worth a visit if traveling or long-time resident.

  • 4/5 Daniel H. 5 months ago on Google
The photos showed the cafe had indoor tables and chairs to sit at; however, we were surprised to only see that there were outdoor seating. Additionally, the parking is only for 10 minutes, but you can park on a nearby street for free. The Cortados were bitter and could have used more milk foam.

This place is a 10/10 no joke. ABSOLUTELY worth a stop whether you're a local or just passing through. Reasons they're great? 1. Creative coffee done with excellence; from their cold brew, espresso pulls, matcha done right, and interesting ever changing cocktail inspired drinks. A massive one up from a basic vanilla latte (although they nail that too). 2. The people?! A pleasure. They'll remember you after a time or two and hold genuine conversation, even in the middle of a rush they make sure to acknowledge ya with a smile. 3. SUPER knowledgable. If you're looking to learn how to nerd out on coffee, this is the place to go - they're highly educated (without being pretentious) & always happy to help 4. They take care of their employees and pay they very fair wages which is few and far between in this industry. 5. Last but not least, it's the perfect cute quaint shop in the middle of a busy city that reminds ya to slow down & enjoy all of life's little moments.

One of our favorite places in Atlanta. They have a butcher shop in the back that makes really delicious sandwiches (our favorite is the Gator Belt). They make the most delicious and creative coffee drinks. They also have an awesome wine selection and the vibe, staff is amazing. A must visit if you're in Atlanta.

Academy Coffee may be Atlanta's best coffee shop right now. They take real craft and use extremely high-quality ingredients. The food is excellent as well. I just wish they had more seating, but it's a small space.

  • 5/5 Nan M. 1 year ago on Google
Their coffee is excellent, the staff were extremely kind and knowledgeable, and they serve such a variety of coffee and support roasters and vendors from all over. Super sick shop. Their seasonal drinks are always so good and so new, the community really loves them, and so do I.

  • 4/5 Cooper F. 1 year ago on Google
Very interesting and unique drinks here. I got the iced latte with banana and almond. I'll be back to try other drinks when they rotate. Prices are a bit expensive for the drink sizes. Parallel parking available right out front.

  • 5/5 Justin J. 1 year ago on Google
This is the best coffee shop in all of Atlanta. You can't go wrong with any drink and the food is to die for. I love the ambience and the staff are super friendly. In addition, the small shop from fresh produce to amazing cuts of meat is really a nieghrbhood one stop shop. I highly recommend you stop by. One small con is it could be a touch on the pricey side but the quality of the ingredients is worth it.

  • 5/5 Manasvini S. 2 years ago on Google
They have an interesting seasonal menu in addition to the regular espresso drinks. I got the ol' fashioned (latte with maple syrup, orange + bitters) which turned out to be a nice beverage. My friend mentioned that their vanilla latte is also very good. The baristas were very nice too. There are a bunch of benches outside for seating, so it's a nice place to chill on a Sunday afternoon.

  • 4/5 Josiah P. 1 year ago on Google
Really good espresso. Great craft from the barista. Downside is no glassware you can use —they have beautiful stoneware sitting on top of the espresso machine—only paper. There also isn’t anywhere to sit inside. Great if you’re on the go.

I have so many thoughts about this place I don't even know where to begin. This place is such a good vibe! The Matcha Special they have with Pistachio is incredible, I get it everytime. I hope it never goes away. To be honest all of their beverages are good and definitely one of my favorite spots in the city! Thank you Academy Coffee!

One of the best coffee spots in town. This place is one of the best coffee spots in town. The baristas are amazing. Have been here multiple times but yesterday I told the barista to surprise me with a iced coffee drink with maple syrup flavor. That was hands down the best iced coffee I've ever had in my life. The only downside of this place is that it is a little hidden and it doesn't have proper parking. there's a many times that I wanted to come here but I have to go back because I couldn't find parking.

  • 5/5 Jessica G. 4 years ago on Google
The shop is very cute, parking wasn't hard at all. The barista was perfect! She knew what she was doing and it showed. They make all the syerps so there were couple of combinations that I haven't tried (I've tried everything or so I thought) that was off the chain! Rose And mint? Bomb! guinness and vanilla? Bomb dot com!

  • 4/5 Antonio C. 4 years ago on Google
Good coffee, for the price I really wanted a great coffee. Felt that the $5 cappuccino only had one shot, but would have liked a two-shot cappuccino for that price.

  • 5/5 Jena R. 4 years ago on Google
Great coffee stop with a few other complimentary stores in the building. Yes, these are single origin beans. The barista was friendly and answered our questions to define the difference between fair trade and direct trade coffee.

Oh my goodness is this place great. The Irwin Street Market has a wonderfully quirky interior. Academy Coffee regularly rotates out unusual and interesting latte drinks and they have all been delicious. This place is quiet, the bakery they currently have, Galette is DELICIOUS (those bourbon scotch chocolate chip cookies!) and the baristas are very pleasant and friendly.

  • 5/5 Margaret B. 4 years ago on Google
I really like this coffe shop and I frequent a lot of them. Of the 5-6 near me, I only like one other one besides this one. Academy is super casual, with good wi-fi, and friendly service. They share space with a flower shop and an ice cream shop, so you can satisfy multiple cravings and it smells great. I work here sometimes and it feels very comfortable. I feel like I just went to my friend's house to hang out. Looks like they serve beer also.

I recently started coming here after relocating for my job and it's so good! Whoever has been taking my order has been very helpful and friendly to me as a new customer. They seem to be dedicated to social distance and safety; they're currently only doing curbside orders at a table outside their front doors. It's much appreciated!

Beautiful space, beautiful people and the selection of coffees and teas are outstanding. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted when I walked in. However, after a lovely conversation with their owner/barista Connan he gave me exactly what I didn’t know I needed. The best coffee I’ve ever had (including in NYC) I will definitely be returning when I am back in the Atlanta area!
