Not that great experience. I and my wife had a beef dry fry, some Kerala porotta, 2 samosas and a lime soda. Lime soda and Kerala porotta is great and very tasty. But samosa felt like it’s frozen and tasted very much similar to Haldiram frozen samosas. Beef was very big pieces, did not taste nice at all. Why I gave one is for the boy at the restaurant- very hard working and respectful- keep up the good work. Chef- bit rude to the waiter boy, I did not thing that was great and needed at that time.

The food here is amazing. Visited 2 times and it was great. You can feel the taste of Kerala when you go there. Porotta here is just like what we get back in Kerala and it goes really well with basically anything. I personally like it with beef curry. On Tuesday’s they have the buffet which is very affordable , tasty and comes with a range of food to choose from. It’s a must try place for all of the food lovers out there.

Visited the restaurant for a Sunday brunch. The taste was amazing. The true taste of Kerala. There were enough varieties to taste. Few of the things i loved the most are kadala curry, egg curry and Kallappam. You need to visit this place if you miss kerala food.

I had a buffet on Tuesday and it was so delicious. I wonder how this place was unnoticed. Don't miss the food.

We made a bulk Onam Sadhya order for graduate students from different countries which everybody loved and gave them a feel and taste of the South Indian festival and culture (love for food and how it brings everyone together to have a good time)! Although a bit on the expensive side, especially for a student, I feel this place was the closest to getting some good yummy authentic Kerala food in Melbourne! Looking forward to try out other dishes from here in the future!

The food was amazing. The service was good too. The problem was... We had to wait for 45 minutes before the food got to our table. And the place wasn't even full! There were only three tables full in the restaurant. Still it took them 45 mins to bring the food. That was the only negative. The food itself was really good. This place specialises in south Indian cuisine, so best stay away from north indian dishes like butter chicken. Highly recommend this place, but please be aware of the long wait to get the food.

The food is made fresh and it's delicious! Such a gem in the area. The spicy fried lamb is the best! Will definitely revisit!

If there was anything called customer service in Australia , You would certainly find it here. Rare authentic South Indian restaurant Starting from typical keral fish curry to sweet ending Payesam is extraordinary. North Indian dishes are good too compared to any North Indian restaurant in Melbourne and believe me I have eaten everywhere but it's not extraordinary like their south Indian dishes . They do buffets also at some days of the week. Main Dishes can take sometime to prepare however it's a good to call prior and order if you are always too hungry like me so you don't waste time waiting.I felt restaurant is slightly under utilized and choice of music can be better . However for me best South Indian restaurant I ve eaten in last 5 years because of amazing food and traditional ambience with excellent service.(Alex and team)

We’re staying in the Punthill appartments Heidelberg after travelling from NE Victoria. Cocoanut lagoon is across the road. The website said they made their food from scratch. When we ordered we were told it would take a while for this reason. We ordered a bottle of wine and chatted while we waited… only 30 minutes or less, so good to have time to decompress from a busy day. IT WAS SO WORTH THE WAIT! Best Indian food I’ve tasted! EVER! We had vindaloo beef, an eggplant dish and a Szechuan fusion chicken with coconut rice and naan bread all the most amazing and delicious flavours. Our waiter and waitress were friendly and helpful and happy! A great sign that food is made from the heart. Thank-you coconut lagoon, we’ll be back!

As a retired chef I found this food amazing every taste bud was used I was there on a Tuesday night the buffet was hot and always full and so many different dishes to choose from the accompanying pickles and chutneys made from scratch, went so well with the meal, as did the buttermilk and the masala tea. I will definitely be back every week.

Amazing Authentic food. My family and I have been to Coconut Lagoon since2019. It has lively atmosphere with lovely food. The service is great!. Onam Sandhya food was exceptional. One of the best Indian Restaurants in Melbourne. Well done Manoj and Team!

Kerala night buffet wasn’t as good as expected. Not value for money for the taste. Presentation and atomosphere wasn’t great. Food was plain and blant with not much authentic flavours. No fish in the fish curry and no refills. Paratha was dry. Idiyapam was too soggy. Payasam was very sweet and not very authentic. Tapioca , Beef curry and chicken curry was good in the buffet.

Onam Sadhya - personally a bit expensive for what you get. Papadum was a bit soggy by the time it arrived. Had to call the waiters for more food. The experience would be much better if it was more organised, however I understand how difficult it is to achieve this in a workplace!

Enjoyed every bit at the onam feast this restaurant has offered. The people waiting for food tells the festival food is authentic .The staff serving the food was lovely to watch

Look no further if you're craving a mouthwatering South Indian meal. I highly recommend trying the Chicken Saagwala, a delectable spinach-based curry, or the Beef Malabari, a coconut-infused curry. And let's not forget about their simply scrumptious naan bread. However, it's worth noting that this place is better suited for takeaways, as the interior, cutlery, and service lack the enchantment needed for a memorable dining experience. Unfortunately, the same level of satisfaction does not extend to their Kerala Night Buffet. Nevertheless, I would definitely return for Indian takeaways countless more times.

Great south indian, kerala food. Consistent quality.

Coconut Lagoon used to be the best restaurant in Melbourne to have Kerala food. Recently, the food quality has gone down drastically. I hope they bring the quality back into their food, because Coconut Lagoon was my favourite place to have kerala food.

Great food Great atmosphere:) we have been going to this restaurant with our family on a regular basis and they have never ever disappointed us, yes we would rather wait and get a great and delicious food on the table then going to other places who serves pre -prepared curry in a hurry. Highly recommended if you are after great quality authentic Indian food in Melbourne which they can also customised as per your taste buds as all the meals are prepared fresh.

I have been a regular customer of this Kerala Restaurant since 2010. Any day of the year you visit this place, you will get the same quality and consistency of food, with extraordinary customer service, a homely and friendly approach. Whenever any of my Aussie friends ask me to recommend an Indian Restaurant, this is the place I always suggest them to go. (I have to explain to them what is the difference between a North Indian restaurant and a South Indian restaurant, in most occasions) Keep your wonderful work going guys !

The food used to be good for the money spent but recently the taste has not been fulfilling. The Kerala Night buffet was very popular and that’s what attracted me all the way there from CBD but I was disappointed with the food and the taste last week. It might be an one night off for the chef but is definitely worth trying out once when you are in Melbourne if you miss Kerala food.

Skewer version of kerala food. Had a christmas buffet disaster here..the last straw whilst spending christmas away from home. The appam was hard it could be used to cut diamond ! And basmati rice with moru kachiyathe!! Whoever thought that would work.. every dish was a disaster except idli sambar( nothing christmasy abt it though).. and fish curry was mostly slimy skin pieces floating in some weird gravy..and calling it kottayam style fish curry.. i better stop listing it all out

Authentic Kerala food, buffet is the best value if you want to try multiple dishes - too bad they don't do the buffet on more days of the week.

I visited this place forst time with high craving for kerala taste. They asked for booking before reaching, we did. On arrival we were told they have serving wait of around 40mins, we still stayed and waited. About an hour later, when asked for an update in kitchen, we were rudely told, it will take atleast 15 more mins, do u want to proceed. You lost me there as customer, never going back Oh the food, served food was good in taste, but their dishes are customized. Chicken starter tasted too much coconut oil and was deeeeep fried. Egg curry and kadai chicken was good in taste, but kadai kitchen appeared as veggies tossed with kitchen in masala. Kerala paratha was really yum

One of the best Kerala cuisine restaurants in the town. Try their idiyappam, Malabar Parotta, Kerala Chicken curry. Never disappoints with mild heat and authentic flavours.

Hi Manoj, Thanks for today’s Sadya. You have been very generous with the items and quantity. The quality is also good, as always. Our experience with coconut lagoon has been consistently excellent. The service is prompt and courteous. Good value for money.

100% authentic kerala food . Loved the food . Especially the pepper chicken is a definite no miss . There is a long wait . But totally worth it as they make everything fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant . They have genuine desire to feed quality food to customers.

This place has the most authentic south indian food, I have ever eaten in Melbourne. Apart from that, they serve a filter coffee in the end which is absolutely delicious.

  • 5/5 Richa D. 2 years ago on Google
Best south Indian food ever. I loved it, really had a great time here. All the waiters and chef were really great. Really great service and food especially from Binoy, Manoj and Milan. As I normally enjoy south Indian food but this one was on another level. Got proportion of spices and flavour really balanced well. Would highly highly recommend. You will not regret for sure.

Know this place for over 10 years and have been trying their food, they have some nice traditional style dishes. Taste was always good. I was really disappointed last weekend with their wait time don't think over 1.5 hrs to serve three dishes is acceptable anywhere (not just us) still an item was left not so worried to chase. If they can't serve on time they should not take bookings. Unless they fix this they are starting to loose customers 100%
