This monument was built as a war memorial commemorating the service of about 253,000 Turkish soldiers who participated at the Battle of Gallipoli, which took place from April 1915 to December 1915 during the First World War. The construction started on 19 April 1954. The construction was interrupted due to financial problems, but with the help of a countrywide financial support campaign, it was finally opened on 21 August 1960. Situated to the north of the memorial, a war cemetery holding the remains of 600 Turkish soldiers was established in 1992. Posted at the site, an inscription with verses from Turkish national anthem by Mehmet Akif Ersoy, reminds the visitors: Do not ignore the ground on which you have walked, It is not ordinary soil. Reflect on the thousands of people, who lie beneath Without a shroud. You are the son of a martyr – Do not hurt your ancestor, Do not give away this beautiful motherland, Even if you are given the whole world. I was full of emotion. You can feel the power of the Turkish soldiers when you stand underneath the monument and look up at the Turkish flag.

This was a very interesting place to visit. There were the names of all the Turkish soldiers who fell during the first world war. Many of the headstones were in the shape of the monument which extraordinary in its own right. From what I gathered, the soldiers were sorted by regiment, not by alphabet. So anybody who was looking for someone could do so easily by searching that way. Further down was the main monument, though there were a few other statues around, one of the biggest was a mural of Ataturk and other soldiers in what I thought was bronze on the side of a wall. The main monument is very tall and has a panoramic view. It includes murals of soldiers in stone along the sides of the 4 pillars. Underneath the top is a large Turkish flag painted on the stone. In the center looks to be a large tomb for all to view.

Must see if you are in Gelibolu! It is both a historic and commemorative site that honours the sacrifices of not just Turkish soldiers, but all involved. It is a great experience to go here and witness the plains of Canakkale which are rich in history. It was an honour! Toilets, water & drinks are for sale from a little shop there, there is a commemorative cemetery, statues, beautiful gardens, quotes from Ataturk, very nice designs around all monuments! If you are in Canakkale, you can get a quick ferry to other side of the coast which you can also bring your car on! I got a tour guide here and also took the ferry with my own car also. Worth it both times!

This is a must visit. It is even more breathtaking in person. Over 253k soldiers died and you can feel their spirits in peace at this monument. How to get here: 120TL cash to visit all the monuments and museums (6). The ride is well worth the time if you have it. There are shuttle drivers right outside of the ferry arrival area. Catch the shuttle there. Trip takes about 2 hours round trip. I took a photo of the shuttle I took.

It is indeed so impressive. The facility around is well-maintained. Everywhere was clean and tidy. It might be the best monument in the Gallipoli peninsula that you must see.

Gänsehautfeeling pur. Wenn man die Geschichte dazu kennt und hier ist kommen als Türke einem die Tränen. Allah rahmet eylesin Şehitlerimizin.

Here is very important and significant place, not only for Turkish people, but also for the people whose ancestors joined the World War I. It is not only dedicated to the martials of Turkish army but also to the soldiers joined to the war from all over the world. The total area to visit very big so if you have chance you should spend at least half a day to see everything completely. It's an important place to pay respects to the people who lost their lives for us, so we can live in peace.

An ery feel with knowing the history of the area, very sad knowing so many died young and old, as well as many from other countries who stepped into help. So many unidentified which will never be known or remembered but their souls are here where they passed Plenty of amazing areas to visit all near eachother too, reading the plaques it's good to see so many rallied around to help at the end. God rest all their souls and all to be remember led and respected for eternity

Such a wonderful experience to be able to honour the Turkish martyrs of the Çanakkale (Gallipoli) War... 🇹🇷 A great and immense monument built with the support of the donations of the local people. Entry is free, coming here is better with a tour guide.

ÇANAKKALE, One of the most important and historical places in turkey. There were many hidden stories behind these pictures. I would like to recommend you to read the history of this place before you come here.

Alhamdullilah Been wanting to visit this area for a few years. Came to make dua for all the (şehitler) fallen from this devastating time. We came on Friday so we were able to pray Jummah at the Mosque that is on the premises. Beautiful place. A lot of history and pain here. It’s good not to forget history and the people who sacrificed their lives for their home.

It is a place that witnesses how a nation can stand together and not allow the world's greatest powers to pass. I love my homeland because I can travel freely on this land that I inherited, watered by the blood of my ancestors, where I was born and raised, where I benefit from the air, the soil, the water.

It would be helpful if there were directions around and descriptions of each place other than that It's good. The toilets are dirty and wet and no toilet roll provided. No entry fee and lots of parking spaces available.

This is an impressive monument and would be similar to Arlington national cemetery in Washington DC for American soldiers killed in action

It's worth a visit for everyone who loves history. Not only are there memorials for all the fallen Turkish soldiers but also for the anzac soldiers who have been fallen during the battle of gallipoli. When you are up there the dardanelles are all under you. The view is amazing and the nature and the people are so welcoming and helpful.

The place was way better than I have ever imagined. The graves are so beautiful and meaningful that you can see the countries and cities name where the martyrs are from. The monument is HUGE! just AMAZING! And it stands on a hill on Bosphours. The view is unbelievable. The whole place with its beautiful Graves and Monument is emotional and make you feel the history❤ loads of love from Iraq🙏❤
