It was erected in memory of Captain Fehmi Bey, First Lieutenant Sadık Bey and First Lieutenant Nuri Bey, who were martyred on the way to make a 2,500 km flight from Istanbul to Cairo with two planes before World War I. The martyred Captain Fehmi Bey, First Lieutenant Sadık Bey and First Lieutenant Nuri Bey are the first martyrs in Turkish aviation history. The foundation of the monument, which is the work of architect Vedat Tek, was laid on April 2, 1914 and its construction was completed in 1916. It consists of a broken column on a marble base. The fact that the monument is in the form of a broken column symbolizes the incomplete flight. There is a bronze laurel branch on the column. An enlarged copy of the medal, which would have been hung around the necks of the pilots in Cairo if they had been able to reach it, was placed on both sides of the base of the monument, which is approximately 7.50 m high. The plane figure, Beyazıt Tower and Istanbul are depicted on the medal.

A very dirty park. The park, which has become a place for homeless people, should be overhauled for the sake of the martyrs and should be saved from becoming a park hotel.

The monument of Vedat Tek, the famous architect of the first national architecture movement, erected in 1914 in memory of our first air martyrs. The symbolism of a broken pillar was used for an incomplete flight.

The monument was erected in 1916 and built by Architect Vedat Tek. The tip of the monument is broken, symbolizing the unfinished flight. There are two medals on either side of the column. It symbolizes the medals that would have been awarded to the pilots in Cairo if the flights had been successful. When World War I broke out, the Ottoman Empire wanted to show the world that they were good at aviation as well as land and sea. And on February 8, 1914, two planes named Muavened-i Milliye and Prince Celaleddin took off from Yeşilköy. Their mission is to travel 2500 km from Istanbul to Cairo. Muavened-i Milliye includes Fethi Bey and Sadık Bey. This plane crashed into the Valley of Hell between Damascus and Jerusalem on February 27, 1914, and two of our pilots were martyred. Prince Celaleddin has Captain İsmail Hakkı Bey and Nuri Bey. This plane also changes its routes as a result of this accident. They want to reach Cairo via Jaffa. The plane, which took off from Jaffa on March 11, 1914, could not take off due to the adverse wind and crashed into the Mediterranean. Nuri Bey becomes a martyr, İsmail Hakkı Bey escapes with injuries. The graves of our martyrs are in the tomb of Saladin Ayyubi in Damascus. Every year, commemoration ceremonies for the martyrs are held in front of this monument. My account: @dunyamdaki_bazi_seyler

Monument of Aviation Martyrs, is one of the two examples of Pre-Republic period. Its construction started on 2 April 1914 and was completed in 1916. It consists of a marble base, decorated with traditional ornamental works of Seljuk-Ottoman architecture and a broken column rising on the base, mission's incomplete status. The mgnument is approximately 7.50 m in height. Two medallions are attached on each of the two opposite sides of the marble base on which the column stands. The history of this monument, which is on the street opposite the Horhor slope at the end of Fatih, is quite old. If you have not seen it, I think it may be useful to go and see it.

The Aviation Martyr’s Monument (Turkish is name Tayyare Şehitleri Anıtı) in Saraçhanebaşı, Fatih (1916), was designed by the architect Vedad Tek in memory of Fethi, Sadık and Nuri Bey. The three pilots died in 1914 while undertaking a flight from İstanbul to Cairo that was ordered by Enver Paşa to show the world that the Ottomans had an impressive airforce. The monument is formed in the shape of a broken column, on a marble base, to symbolize the uncompleted flight. Every year a rememberence ceremony is held in front of the monument.
