Not crowded, planes in good condition, but indoor exhibits and gift shop closed for renovation. Still really nice as most of the exhibits are outside, but you can only enter one (C-47) - Others are closed

It is just by Marmaray Yeşilköy station so access is very easy. As of May 2022 the main building is under renovation so we were not able to visit inside. It is nice to have possibility to enter the cockpits of some planes. Huge cargo planes are also nice to see inside. Our visit was interesting for our kids.

I thank the Turkish government as well as everyone who participated in this great work. I advise everyone to visit this beautiful and interesting place. When you visit this place, you will benefit from information and go back to the past. It would be better if the information was translated into other languages.

(Translated by Google) General Information A great open-air museum that I can recommend everyone to go and see, regardless of their interest in aviation. The museum consists of open and closed areas. There are many planes and helicopters used in civil aviation and military aviation in the open area. In the closed area, many documents and images are waiting for you about various aircraft models, events that explain the historical development of Turkish Aviation, and our heroes that have made their mark on our aviation history. Tips The entrance fee was charged as 8 TL when I went last. Student tickets were lower prices. There is a large free parking lot. You can easily go with your vehicle. There is also a small store inside where a lot of aviation souvenirs are sold.

(Translated by Google) A must visit is the Aviation Museum, full of magnificent details and so many history. You see, your hairs get goosebumps. You are looking at airplanes of 100% Turkish origin in Kayseri aircraft factory, and you are looking at parts of enemy jets shot down in the war of liberation. What's more. I recommend that you take 2 hours to fully see them all. You pay a small fee at the entrance. If you have a camera, you are charged extra. It is a museum consisting of two parts, open air and closed. I strongly recommend you to visit.

It was an exciting day to see this museum. I suggest this one especially for kids. Adults would find it interesting as well, to be surrounded by planes of different “categories”. It’s free also😁👍

  • 2/5 Teddy T. 10 months ago on Google • 29 reviews
It was free. Everything is outdoors. What I didn't like was that there are no technical details about the aircrafts(such as range, top speed, max operating altitude etc). The only info displayed is when it entered service with the Turkish air force and how many pieces and when it stopped service.

As a pilot, I travel the world and always try to go to an aviation museum if there is one, wherever I go. The Istanbul museum is a disappointment. The exhibition was partly closed due to renovation, but they still charged a full price of 400tl per adult. We only got to see the outside part. The aircrafts are kept in poor condition with rain leaking into the airplanes destroying what’s left of them. The state of most airplanes: they flew in, dragged onto the museum apron and left to rust. You can clearly see that most of them, were they to be preserved correctly, would’ve still had life in them. It’s mostly a military exhibition with a handful of civilian airplanes, which is fine. The range of fighters/bombers is actually quite impressive from 1950s up to an f-16. The description boards are non-informative. They describe the model and years in service, but no indication of speed, engines, fuel consumption and interesting facts that we usually look for when coming into a museum. In conclusion- the museum lacks aviation enthusiasts to make the exhibition more interactive and interesting. And a good engineer to preserve the airplanes before they are gone completely. Ideally a restoration team to bring life back to the birds. Currently it’s just a parking.

(Translated by Google) At the end of the First World War, the fact that the aircraft belonging to various nations, the oldest of which belonged to 1912, and the presence of one, two and three of each type of aircraft made by the Germans during the First World War in the hangars led to the decision of the Air Force Inspectorate to establish an air museum. . The seizure of the loot aircraft captured from the enemy has also been started for the same purpose. However, these planes collected for the museum were planned to be taken to Kartal Maltepe in order not to be damaged during the War of Independence, but some of the planes were damaged during the transportation. These damages and the plane crashes that took place during the War of Independence delayed the idea of establishing an air museum. In 1960, the Commander of the Air Force at the time, Hv.Org. Irfan Tansel in Turkey with the directive came the idea of establishing air museum on the agenda published in 1963 and for this purpose an order of protection and one each from Air Force aircraft used in other unions have been asked. As a result of the work carried out in 1966 Air Museum Organization it was formed and May 15, 1971 in Izmir Cumaovası opened Turkey's first air museum in the Civil Airport.

Lovely array of all the various fighter jets the Turkish airforce has operated over the years as well as a few really special vintage and historical machines. You can see the funding and enthusiasm isn't where it used to be, but for what one pays its worth the little walk around. Everything is in Turkish so you won't be able to read or understand what the information boards say which is understandable in Turkey. Still a nice little outing. I'm sure kids enjoy it especially

Collection can definitely be more rich and better maintained. The place is not being taken care of as it should.

Nice little walkabout but the inside museum was closed for refurbishment. 200TL is probably a little too much for the walk around the grounds to see some aircraft. Quite a tired look to it. To my knowledge, some of the planes were getting repainted which is highly needed.

Great place for people with aviation interests, especially kids!! The only downfall was non of the planes had inside access. But overall recommend a visit if you are stopping by Istanbul Aquarium.

I went before yesterday It was a nice experience The ticket 25 TL with photographer will cost 100 TL I guess. The weather was hot outside , inside was closed because the restoration… the airplanes needs servicing btw but I enjoyed… I will go again when the interior museum opens
