Authentic indonesian restaurant in Istanbul. Rendang was a bit different from what i used to eat in general but other than that its was a good experience. Staff is very nice and polite.

Had an amazing meal here at this little cozy restaurant. It’s an Indonesian cuisine. It was a good break from regular Turkish food. If you love spicy food, you have to come here. They have 3 levels of spicy. level 4,8 & 12. 12 being the spiciest. They have a warning on the menu because apparently it’s super duper spicy. We had the level 4 and it had a good amount of spiciness to the food. They have tasty veg options too. They have some non vegetarian dishes that they can make vegetarian too. It’s a must try.

This place is legit. The restaurant seems to be Indonesian owned and operated. We had some excellent nasi goreng that brought back memories of my Indonesia travels. Spice level 4 recommended….

Amazing Indonesian food in Galata. Highly recommend the chicken dishes, and the spicy soy sambal and peanut sambal on the side. Spicy soy sambal was especially good, it’s like a thick sweet molasses with spicy chili peppers and onions mixed in. I came here like 5 times during my stay, it was that good. And quite cheap too

Wow. Really good service. Servers even suggested to move us to a table with a fan and better air. Points for that Very kind and friendly. The food itself was very very good. Me and my girlfriend both tried the appetizers with peanut and it was so good! We also tried 2 entrees we never did before. Lamb fried rice was so well seasoned. Definitely satisfied our taste buds.

The service and food were amazing. Very flavorful and the spicy dishes were actually very spicy and they did not hold back. The fried banana dessert was a perfect end.

I really love this place. The vibes are super chill, the food is honestly amazing. The staff is super friendly, always smiling. When we were leaving the girl who is working there walked with us to the door and waving us bye. That's such a sweet move. I just really hope that is it's going to be open on Tuesdays and after 8pm.

Such a lovely place full of cheerful waiters. I really appreciated the Indonesian hospitality. The service was perfect! The inside of the restaurant is decorated with much taste and traditional items, which allow you to travel with a bit of imagination. The food was very tasty and prices are affordable. The staff offered us some Indonesian magnets after our meal. This gesture really made our hearts melt. <3 We will make sure to go back to Koali Dine, as the location is perfect, near to Galata Port, full of entertainment and activity. Keep doing amazing guys.

My husband and I visited here twice for lunch. I highly recommend ayam geprek, beef rendang, lamb satay and pandan cake. Ayam geprek was so spicy but if you’re a fan of spicy food definitely should try. Nasi koali was kind of disappointing. Prices are reasonable. Staff was incredibly polite.

It was my first experience with Indonesian food and it was marvelous. The nasi goreng mawut was flavourful and savory but INCREDIBLY spicy. I chose level 8, thinking that I could easily handle very spicy food, but in retrospect, I would certainly recommend going with level 4 if you want to save yourself some spicy tears. Otherwise, the ambiance was great, the location is central if you’re visiting the Galata region and the prices are reasonable (unlike every other restaurant in Istanbul nowadays). The staff was kind, but just a tad bit slow unless you call them. Would come back!

The food is very good, no doubt about that! As soon as you walk in, you could immediately smell the incense, which was awesome. The restaurant was really nicely decorated, with adornments from all over Indonesia. But the food - it’s so authentic and just bursting with flavours. The staff here are super friendly. You’d hear Indonesian everywhere, so you know the Indonesians love it here. The only downside is that the portions are quite small for what you get. Wish they were bigger!

A place to go if you miss asian spicy food when you are in istanbul. We ordered nasi ayam geprek and nasi goreng mawut. If you cannot stand spicy food, do not order the nasi goreng mawut. It was very very spicy. Nonetheless, it was tasty. The only thing that we cannot stand is the waiting. Waiting to get the order, waiting to make the payment. It can challenge your patience. But I will still recommend this shop especially when you are craving for an asian spicy food in istanbul.

Also whoever you are regardless your race PLEASE GO but be careful with the spicy choices! Great place for 'lunch and dinner' (we visited this restaurant 7 times in 2 weeks). Service is very quick and friendly. The place is very clean, food is delicious (you can choose the spice level from 4, 8 & 12), we prefer level 0 or level 4! Make sure to bring HES CODE along! It is 5 minutes walk from Tophane tram station.

Koali's food is akin to an indonesian friend's home cooking, and that is good enough if you're an indonesian living abroad looking for a taste of home, or if you're a non-indonesian person wanting to taste its cuisine for the first time. Try their fried banana pie for dessert. In for something spicy? Their sambal is a another favorite of mine.

The waiters were friendly and service was quick but I wasn't quite satisfied with the food. My meal (ayam bakar and siomay) did not taste that delicious and it was pricy. The salad was not that fresh either. Some people say their nasi goreng, ayam geprek and gorengan is tasty instead. I also ordered a drink (ice milk tea) but shockigly, they served it in a medium-sized (almost small) cup but it was too pricy and they could've served it in a bigger glass.

This place is quite cozzy and convinience. The location easy to reach, nearby Tophane station. Inside the restaurant they try to bring the Indonesian vibes through the audio that played and also by TV footage. I have to say the food tasted pretty nice, it just they need to a bit working on the corn fritter. The overall it has good taste food for Indonesian cuisine. The nasi goreng is my recommendation, I think it is the best nasi goreng in Istambul. The waitress also nice, polite and friendly, it is true Indonesian hospitality vibes. Compares to other Indonesian restaurant, Koali is the best one!

I came in the other night and the staff was so friendly to me. When I asked how much food I should get for 1 person they were honest with me and did not try to upsell me which was so lovely. I had this really awesome dish (can't remember the name) that was chicken and peanut sauce, it was so delicious! Then I had a lemon, ginger, strawberry drink which was so fresh and tasty. I loved my experience and am hoping to come back again soon!

First time I've tried Indonesian Food and I must say that I've definitely fallen in love with the cuisine because of this Restaurant!! I tried the national dish and it was superb :) The flavor of the dishes were amazing. Also the presentation of each dish and atmosphere was very great!

I had gorengan platter + nasi rendang. Bakwan was crispy, but a bit plain, i think they didn’t put any other spices than salt + pepper. However other fries were really good, tasted very authentic. Rendang was very tender, but again it was not savory, like in Indonesia, probably they have adjusted the taste (?) Gulai, sambal ijo, bumbu kacang were delicious!

The top Indonesian joint in Istanbul, located strategically near the Galata tower and Karakoy pier. Authentic foods as what you expect to have in Indo (pls note the spiciness lvl). I do recommend Nasi Mawut (beware 🌶️) and Mie Godhog (comforting during cold days). ++ friendly staffs

  • 3/5 Anastasia A. 1 year ago on Google
Good atmosphere though food was so so. We had lamb on stick and it was cold and way too spicy which they didn’t mention. The second dish was wok with lamb and veggies. It was good though way too little lamb and veggies for such big portion of rice

  • 5/5 Aya K. 1 year ago on Google
Wish I took more pictures of the dishes. The food is really good, but I was honestly expecting better, it is Ramadan, though, and it was iftar time, so that might have been the reason. The mango yogurt drink was just amazing, fried chicken was excellent, and the sauces were great. The staff were very cooperative and friendly. Very nice atmosphere overall.

Authentic Indonesian cuisine. Indonesian staff as well. All the usual standard meals available. Two cons: 1 bakso was not made correctly, a bit amateurish to be honest. 2 they use local rice and don't cook it properly, like they don't know how to cook Turkish rice. Why buy it then? Other rice is available. Pros: everything else

I have been craving to eat some Indonesian food for some time. Thankfully, during my trip to Istanbul, there were a few Indonesian restaurants to choose from. I learned about this restaurant through online recommendations for "Asian food" but more so specifically for "Indonesian food". The restaurant is within walking distance to the Galata Tower. I ordered the nasi koali and extra tempe. For the nasi koali, I requested for the dish to be made vegan which included tempeh on the top. I found the food tasted good, but I wished there were more vegan sambal options (ones in paste-like form). Only the sambal matah is vegan, which is the one included in my nasi koali. Most of the customers when I was there were foreigners, including some Indonesians. Restaurant seems to be indoors only. Menu is physical form. Service was decent, but one of the servers who served me seemed quite cold.

It's not bad to be able to find Indonesian-style baso meatball instead of not kofte😅 also find gado2 and satay. For taste, can't complain because it's not Jakarta, we even bring our own sauces, fried onions and chili powder. Standard prices, similar to food in local cafes. The batagor and tongseng are so good, but the portion is too small. we are still glad with that. unfortunately, we are so disappointed with the gulai green fish, I think they should use Blue fish or Seabass instead of using cheap Mackarell which has heavy taste. plus please kindly pay more attention for the customers so they don't have to call you many times if they need any assistance..

(Translated by Google) For Indonesians who expect to find warmth in this restaurant, I suggest removing that image immediately. Because the owners and employees here, although Indonesians, are very cold towards customers. Even if you don't consider Indonesianness, the service here needs to be improved. Initially I intended to buy a lot, just to give my fellow nationals a fortune. But when I found out that the service was disappointing, I gave up my intention. This place is just great. Very tasty Indonesian dishes, pleasant atmosphere, large portions and an adequate price tag (the most expensive dish on the menu costs 58 lira). They recently moved to another building, so there is no Internet and a restroom yet, but this did not spoil the impression
