My favorite place for the special Rauch (smoky) bier from Bamberg. They serve the best traditional bier in Bamberg. A really old history with the bier production. Ambience is really awesome with those gothic style interiors within a medieval building. The people at the service are attentive and highly friendly. The serving time is very quick, considering the high work load they have. The food tastes really yummy and I would recommend the stuffed onion in combination with the smoked bier. We had a very nice and chill evening.

We really had a good time there. I took my parents who’s visiting Germany there and they love it! We didn’t book the table and just randomly walked in, got lucky to have a table, but I’d recommend you to call and make a reservation. The place was a bit too loud and crowded but the food was really good! They came out as a big portion at a fair price. We had these 4 dishes, one beer, 2 juices, and water, it costs only 70€ for 4 of us! The service was really nice and friendly as well. I highly recommend you to try this place in Bamberg.

Very nice, server very friendly. Made reservations for 9. Ate a wonderful meal, shared several plates with friends, everything was delicious. Had their famous smoked bear which was very good. Must be aware that they only take cash!

This is a must visit if in Bamberg, and if you like the distinctive taste of the “Rauchbier” (smoked beer, which tastes and smells like bacon, literally). Prices are very reasonable and the food too is very tasty. I had the stuffed onion with minced meat and it was delicious. One of the best traditional German/Bavarian meals I had in a while

It's one of those extremely touristic places but still worth a visit. You can find it by the people drinking beer in front of it. The atmosphere is very typical in the restaurant. Service was good, very friendly. Although good, the smoked beer has nothing special. The food, on the other hand, was very good. Prices are a bit to the expensive side but not too much, considering the place's fame. Be sure to make a reservation, especially if traveling on season.

GREAT !!! the restaurant itself it's the tipical bayerishe place so good good, and then the food was incredibly good we really enjoyed it! we went on a saturday, there was quite some pople but fine we managed to find a table! i think they change the menu every week so i guess depending on when you go you'll find one thing or the other, but i guess always good! also they have a vegetarian option available which is great :) they have this smoked beer, quite interesting to taste i liked it!!! and then if i am not mistaken as in many other german places you can only pay cash... about the price i mean german prices it is ok. but really if you are in Bamberg give it a try it is worth it!!! :p

The best smoked beer in Deutschland and the food is really tasty. The attention of the Kellnerin is extremely nice. The place has an amazing cozy atmosphere. 100% recommended

We had a fantastic evening at Schlenkerla! On the 23.07 (Rauchbierbewahrungstag) Matthias Trum gave a captivating presentation on the history of smoked beers while the staff delighted us with a smoked-beer based menu which was very tasty. The beer was, as expected, just amazing. The "newcomer" smoked red Weichsel is a huge hit, let's hope the brewery keeps brewing it. After the dinner we had a chat with Herr Trum, his dedication to the family history with the brewery, and of beer history in general, is truly inspiring. See you next year for a tour of the old brewery:)

This place is like stepping back in time and it's all the better for it. Luckily the servers all know English and there is an English menu available. The smoked beer is what they are famous for. It isn't for everyone, but this it is for will not be able to get enough. The food is just as incredible as the beer. I strongly recommend the pork knuckle over the pork shoulder. There is just more crispy skin and tender meat on the knuckle. Prost.

I got to honour the best Veggie Casserole at this place. Highly recommend it. Lively vibes overall. We did not have the reservation but got lucky to get a table for 8 on spot. The staff was really really friendly and humble. ℹ️You must get a reservation in advance as it was extremely busy on a Saturday Suggestion to the restaurant: please keep some hand tissues in the WC as the dryer wasn’t so useful in the cold weather

Probably my favorite brewery in Germany: impressive historic interior, great food, and very reasonable prices. Stuffed onion and smokey beer were exceptional and come in more varieties than in other brew houses. Buy some beer to take home!

Excellent location in a medieval building with great selection of originals beers. Bamberg is a fabulous historic town well worth a visit. Good atmosphere, friendly service and good food. One less star because there are only few vegetarian options. Warmly recommended!

Traditional German brewery where you can get into a joyful mood with your friends. But only after you try a couple of the unique smoked beer that this place is known for. You can also buy said beer and drink it outside in the street.

Good food and service with excellent beer. Servers are fast and courteous. Menus are in German and English, so it careers to tourists although it is a bit out of the way. Charming dining rooms with the classic Gasthof feel. There is also a souvenir shop in the interior courtyard.

One of my favorite restaurants in Germany! Superb Franconian Beer and food. The atmosphere is incredibly fun and the service is fast. I highly recommend this place.

I didn’t like the smoked beer. It tasted funny- like mead, burnt honey like taste. We ordered some food. They were ok. Service wasn’t bad amidst language difficulties- they don’t speak English. We were not allowed to pay by card. Fortunately we had bit of money just enough for food… so couldn’t leave a tip 😊 the lady looked unhappy… difficult to understand why card payments are not allowed this day and time, people hardly carry money these days…

Astonishingly good, authentic food, a horrible low alcohol beer and very interesting to good smoked beers. While I really enjoyed the ruby smoked beer, the low alcohol version tasted like dish washing suds. Interesting to know what they did back then - but not a great taste. 😁

We came in to try the smoked beer. My husband loved it! He said it was similar in taste to a smoky meat flavor, not a burned taste. I thought it was ok and I also enjoyed the red beer. It was a little crowded today but we still had a nice time. Afterwards we went next door for a pretzel.

The original smoked beer. It was a nice change of pace to drink, and had some campfire characteristics. I did really enjoy their Bamberg Onion, I forget the actual name! It was delicious with the beer gravy and potatoes. Definitely a unique spot and must visit in Bamberg.

Solid Bavarian food, good choices of beer and nice service. It’s mostly famous for its smoky beers and you either hate or love them. I’ve been here a lot of times during the last year and the quality has been consistent. Definitely worth a visit if you want to try something unique.

Excellent smoked beer. Usually quite busy so if you want to eat here you need to reserve.

One of the best beer we have ever had. The taste of smoke, the smell, incredible. The location makes you feel like in medieval time, everything is kept like a fairy tail. And the food is excellent too, after a week in Czech Republic this was the best gulasch soup we had in a 2 weeks trip. Absolutely a MUST visit place

One of the most original beer I’ve ever had. Truly brewed beer, you get tastes of smoked cheese or meat while you drink. Definitely a must-try. Staff was also kind although they were so busy.

Truly they brew one of the best beers in the world, since 1405. Yes, the fun expression from many is "Bacon in a mug", but in my opinion that's just the start of the adventure with the smell. Next is the taste, which is quite full (marzen), is toasted chestnuts, and ham. Others equate to roasted ham or lightly cooked bacon. Either way you're going to be happy, are completely satisfied.

A must when in Bamberg. Of course, most come for the beer, the experience. But, you can also go for the wine, the food and the nice open garden. Make sure you have your vaccine proof and the right type of face covering.

Very spacious place with many dining rooms and a restaurant garden. Tasty food and delicious beer with smokey aroma and taste. Quick, pleasant, English speaking service. Old, classic atmosphere inside, which is a great company to the food and the beer. Definately recommended for all those who love beer and meaty food.

🫤 Margarita pizza is 6 out of 10. Good, but nothing special. A glass of water to it cost me almost 4 euros, in many places water is free, but here... In cold weather they served it to me with Ice. They charged me 4 euros more and put ice in it... I'm done :)
