For those who is complaining about accommodations being outdated. What did you expect for $10 a night? You are on a secluded island in the middle of the jungle with 1 resort where you did not stay because it’s $50-$60 a night. Come on guys, be reasonable because we get what we pay for. From my experience these are very nice locals who work hard in order to survive COVID and a giant brand new resort that occupied beach area. Be humble and please support locals!

We didn't book in advance so we got what was left from the most abandoned houses, but it was still great. Staff has good vibes, chilled. No noise, just nature and giant spiders hahaha.

Way too much money for what you get. My mattress was mouldy, everything was old and broken, dripping taps in the bathroom. They say they are sustainable but whole Tonsai is powered by generators. Also 50% of the restaurants and shops nearby were abandoned.. really sad. We were very disappointed... this was the most expensive accommodation on our trip and we never felt more uncomfortable. Why two stars? Located in the jungle, nice view. Next to a lot of climbing areas.

Bar 4 stars, accommodation 2: - relaxed and nice staff on bar - good drinks on mid-higher price range - great seating - simply chill out Accommodation: it’s a chill out bungalow so you don’t expect any fancy hotel things, but the place has seen much better times: -AC, water heater are installed, but not working. Definitely not an issue, but don’t rely on photos - electricity is working only in limited hours and there is just one socket in the entire bungalow - so you have to choose either a fan or charging :) - you just wonder, where all the money goes, since it’s definitely not to maintenance and improvements. Staff at check-in was great, we arrived late, but it was not a problem. We recommend it, but the price/value ratio is not that good. It’s good if you prefer more relaxed Tonsai beach over all crowds on Raley

Chill Out is a lovely place to, well, Chill Out! We came for the climbing and stayed in Tonsai versus the more populated Railay. Our room was clean and comfortable. It didn’t have a mosquito net per photos but we weren’t bothered by any mozzies. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Chill Out restaurant. Excellent local food, very generous portions, and lovely people serving at the bar and restaurant. The staff (and everyone in Tonsai) were lovely and genuinely grateful to have people staying. Tonsai itself has clearly suffered from the Covid years and is trying to get back on its feet. It’s a special wee spot we hope survives.

Awesome venue for super low key travelers. Take special care when looking at what amenities (no air con) are included here and the time of year you will be visiting. Very much on point for the price. Extremely nice, professional, and friendly staff. Many places nearby to eat food from, grab a drink, or even rent climbing gear. Note on climbing gear: There is not business posted on Google for the stall that rents out the gear, but it is the best place in Tonsai beach area. Cheapest princes of all three places we checked out by far. Extremely personable and helpful shop owner. Definitely get your gear and helpful pointers from Max!

The atmosphere is amazing, people are friendly and it’s very chill. It’s very well priced but it is very run down and not clean at all. Don’t expect electricity during the day, Don’t expect air con in the rooms, expect loads of mosquitoes and then you won’t be disappointed. I’d recommend staying here for the vibe and the people if you can handle a place that’s rough around the edges.

It was OK. The rooms are screened but there are holes big enough for geckos (and what else?) to come in. Ceiling fan didn’t work and outlet also didn’t work even during electricity hours so not enough outlets to plug 2 phones and 1 floor fan. Ants are there too. One of the receptionists is too laid back to be helpful. We said we’d extend and he confirmed it but the day after, nothing was booked. Unreliable service. Anyway, we found something next door for 300 baht less and same quality. Also, is this place half abandoned? We did like the flags on the doorway creative, even though some ratios are inaccurate.

This place has such a great vibe. Basic clean accommodation. Absolutely stunning views. It can be quite the challenge to walk from Railey back to Tonsai at night depending on the tides.

Chill Out Bar & Bungalows seem like an amazing place that really needs some renovations and/or lower prices - we paid 700 Baht for a bungalow in low season, which is just a bit too much. We had cockroaches come through under the door. One power outlet only, so decide if you want to charge your electronics or have the fan on. I understand that you need money to do repairs to the rooms, but at the moment the value is just not there. General vibe - The luxury resort at the beach built a wall, effectively separating the village, including this accommodation, from the beach - it is now a (just under) 10 minute walk to get around the ugly concrete wall (with some cool graffiti) and through a resort, with no shade. It's not the village's fault, but sadly makes a big impact on our experience in Tonsai. Half the businesses are shut - partly because it's low season, but many others are visibly abandoned, guess they couldn't survive COVID. It's low season, but still - the streets are pretty much deserted, no other people. On the plus side, the beach is as beautiful as ever - and you have it pretty much for yourself.

Very “interesting” experience: Tonsai beach looks like an abandoned place. Concerning Chill Out, the bungalows are very old and not well maintained, as said in the other reviews the windows are screened but there are lot of holes big enough to let geckos come in (we saw it). We only had one outlet so we couldn’t plug our phones while the fan was working. In the bathroom, the tap didn’t work (we had to continually press down with one hand). All of this for 700 baths in low season. We paid 300 baths more to stay in a way better place in Railey, where we found lots of walls to climb and where we could easily go to Tonsai beach to climb (15/20 minutes of walk). I clearly don’t recommend to spend money to stay in this place.

You get what you pay for. I personally enjoyed it for the atmosphere and the vibe. I don't mind basic accomodations but the bungalows are BASIC. Cold showers, no flush toilets, open bathrooms and bare slats of wood flooring. No blankets, tattered sheets. I'm totally fine with that personally, but don't stay here if you're looking for cushy! The staff was great and the whole scene is super fun and laid back. The only complaint I have is that they burned piles of leaves and yard debris director under the bungalows on stilts and since they aren't sealed, my room completely filled with smoke. The man doing it saw me coming home and immediately put it out and apologized but the smoke remained for a while and he started another fire next door. The next day he burnt another pile directly under my bungalow again and I had to leave. Other than that it was a great time.

Great people and the bar is a nice place to hang out. Good areas to read, great fire show. However, the living conditions were very dirty, we had a mouse in our room, the "walls" and "floor" have holes and gaps. We could hear things/animals in the walls all night. It was hard to feel clean and sanitary here even after a cold shower. Lots of bugs. Loved the area but disliked being at our bungalow. Be ready for a camping environment if you would like to stay here.

The place is situated in the most beautiful area. Not touristy compared to Railay next to it. Great place for climbers. If you’re a beginner best walls are in Railay which is about 20 minutes walk. The energy is great, people are nice and willing to help. If i had to complain the rooms are not too tidy but okay. Sheets have stains on it but are washed. Floor is a little dusty but that’s okay. Electricity only from 6pm to 6am but that’s not a problem. Recommended for backpackers and chill people who are not looking for luxury but love nature. You’re surrounded by monkeys and chickens this is amazing.

Highly recommend Max’s climbing shop located at Chill Out! We stayed here and the rooms are basic but as advertised, with chill Tonsai vibes. The highlight of our stay was chatting with Max who is highly knowledgeable of the local climbing and always happy to help out with recommendations and gear rental.

Simply an awesome place. Basically staying in the beautiful jungle. Monkeys visit. When acclimatised to the area these huts with fan only are fine. Superb jungly bars nearby and amazing scenery. Brill cafe and bar attached to place. Awesome staff. Iv been back a few times and will do so again .

Firstly our flight arrived at 9PM and Tonsai beach is only accessible via boat. Because it was late all the boats had stopped running by this point so the only option would of been to hire a private boat off of a local. This would have been expensive so we had to cancel. Getting a boat in the day was easy. A hut on Ao Nang beach front selling tickets was easy to find. A short walk on Google maps led us to Chillout, my girlfriend and I gave them a deposit for the key and towels, which was 300 baht, and were taking to our room. Lovely place on the outside, all the doors have a different country on the doors which made for a nice vibe of the place. The bed was ok, hard but standard for Thailand. No mosquitos got into the room. Electricity was only from 6PM until 6AM which wasn't a problem for us. The bathroom was a bit mingin toilet had large stains running down it, not sure what they were but didn't smell bad. The shower was awful. Lots of monkeys jumping on roofs in the morning which was fun to watch and listen to. We had 1 cold beer at the bar and mixed fruit pancakes 1 morning for breakfast which I didn't like due to them cooking mango and pineapple in the mix, made for a pile of soft , warm and mushy fruit. Cheap so I'd recommend staying if in the area but perhaps eat at a place called Pyramid down the way or in Railay Beach.

This place is exactly as advertised - no hot water, no AC, and electricity only from 6 pm to 6 am. I thought I’d have a hard time with that, but it all worked out just fine. The atmosphere is great, the staff is great, and everyone is so lovely. I really enjoyed getting to know the guests and the locals. It’s a perfect place if you’re okay with being up close to nature and you need to get away from everyday life for a while.

Before you book know that there is no electricity from 6am to 6pm and there is no hot water. It is also a bit tricky to get there.

It’s a really nice place, basic but clean and nice staff (especially at the bar). also really tasty and not expensive food! but a lot of hungry mosquitos when we were there. and you can only get there by boat.. unfortunately, due to covid i assume, a lot of the other restaurants and bars around are closed which means you don’t have that many options but as i said the food is really good and the bar gets busier in the evening!

I had a great stay here for 6 nights. At first it was only meant to be 1 night but I enjoyed my stay so much I kept extending every night for another day. Great vibes, amazing people and such a local community feel around the place. You are truly immersed in nature so just enjoy it and don’t let a bug or two put you off. Bring decent mosquito repellent though!! This place will always hold a special place in my heart and I’d love to come back one day.

Pretty basic rooms, got what you need. No electricity until 6pm so be aware of that if you need stuff charged

Because it’s in a beautiful place. Really is a hut in the jungle and has everything you need. Sure the power and wifi times are limited…. But who doesn’t need to get off their phone for a bit? Love to the locals who are fighting back after Covid and what I’m sure has been a tough two years. Needs a bit of love and not the cleanest…… just know this.

I’m sure this place used to be vibrant and a good spot to stay but do not stay here. Do not be fooled by pictures. It is essentially abandoned. You have to climb over a dodgy ladder and over a wall to get here from the beach. There are no restaurants. There were lizards and mosquitos in our room , only 6 hours of electricity per day. We didn’t even stay for one night we just packed up and left. When checking out the “receptionist” didn’t even ask why we were leaving just took our money. It is expensive for what u get. It is sad that it has probably turned this way due to Covid but I don’t want other travellers to be deceived as we were. Avoid staying on Tonsai beach and especially chill out bar if you are going to krabi. Stay at Railay beach.

Extremely delicious food and stunningly beautiful beach. The bungalows are basic but had all I need. Great respite if Railay beach area is too crowded for you.

Beautiful place with beautiful people, feels like slepping in the outdoors with trees all around u, its simple but that's all u need for some peace and quiet U can walk to railay beach at day There's a small restaurant right at the front of the place with great food at law cost and lovely people who will be happy to see at any time

I think this place is best suited for hippies who don't mind being dirty. Booked for two nights but left after the first night. The room was dirty and grotty (see pictures). I think the room was prepared a long time ago, but due to lack of guests, it was left unused for ages. So the bed sheets felt sticky from the humidity. Basic amenities (as expected for the price) however, electricity is only available from 6pm to midnight. Mosquito nets worked fine. There isn't much to do on Tonsai (very secluded) so we went to Railay mostly. It's very hard to get to. People said when the tide is low you can walk across, but often it wasn't, so we had to purchase a Long-tail boat to get there, which can add up if you are doing multiple trips. I'd advise just staying at Railay and visiting Tonsai.

We loved to stay here! You're in nature, there really is a chill vibe. We only stayed there one night but spend almost the whole time at the bar because it was so nice and there was great music. We even got to see a fireshow! Don't expect much from the rooms. We had big rats in ours which didn't help us sleep all that well. But that's not the reason you go there.

Classic Thai style bungalows nestled at the foot of towering limestone cliffs. Good vibes. Friendly bartenders. It's not a fancy place, but it's functional. Walking distance to Rallay beach, but thankfully completely separated from the madness. Popular with the rock climbing crowd who make up the bulk of this charming community.

We contacted this resort via Agoda message and they didn't bother to tell us there was absolutely no food in the beach due to covid. The reception at the place was plain bad, the personal uninterested and inefficient. When we asked where we could get food they gave us very vague and unisterested directions to tonsai beach, where we eventually went. We couldn't make it back because of rain and high tide, had to book a night in Tonsai and, to make it even better, the following night they asked us to pay one more night because we couldn't make it in time for check out due to weather conditions. Easily the worst place I have been to in my nearly one year travelling through south east Asia. After a conversation on the phone with the not so nice owner, she "kindly" accepted us to pay half of the second night. Still had to pay for a place we didn't even sleep in for one night. Very unpleasant and not understanding people. It is not normal to keep a place open when you can't at least offer the minimum services to your guests, and on top of that treat them like that. At least the surroundings are nice I guess.

All about making money. Have never stayed in a worse place than this. Holes in both roof and walls with mosquitoes everywhere and giant spiders. Left the place at 6 in the morning without checking out

Definitely does not live up to the name. Has loud bassy music playing late into the evening and can hear it from my bed. Two plug sockets in a 4 person dorm, no free water. It's not awful but I am quite disappointed especially as it's such a peaceful beautiful area yet trying to get a good sleep proves difficult.

This was the worst place so far in Thailand. The lady in the reception was the only good thing but the bungalows were so bad. It had holes in the wall, ants everywhere, it was dirty and the bathroom looked like it had black mold in it and we didnt even get a hand soap, nothing. The reception didnt open until 8:00 so we didnt even got our deposit back so we wont ever come back here. + they didnt told us that it was a chicken farm there so a rooster screamed outside our door the whole night.
