If I'm being honest, the price is a little bit high because you only see the vehicles in one of the barracks and on the outside. But we were lucky today because they drove an old tank from the repair area to another barrack (unfortunately we couldn't walk around in the other barrack, even though there were more vehicles to see). I think this museum is not yet finished, I hope to see it finished one day. A missed chance: a little shop would be nice :)

I recently visited Bastogne Barracks and I must say, it was a disappointing experience. As a history enthusiast, I was looking forward to learning more about the significance of the Battle of the Bulge and gaining a deeper understanding of the events that unfolded in Bastogne during World War II. However, the museum failed to deliver on this front. One of the main issues I encountered was the lack of historical context provided throughout the museum. Instead of focusing on the broader historical narrative and the impact of the Battle of the Bulge, the museum seemed to be solely dedicated to showcasing tanks from the war. While tanks are undoubtedly important artifacts of that era, they alone cannot tell the complete story. The information provided about the tanks themselves was quite limited as well. I expected detailed descriptions and explanations of their significance in the context of the war, but what I found was merely basic technical information about each tank on display. It felt like I was walking through a showroom rather than a museum that aimed to educate visitors about the historical significance of the objects. To make matters worse, I discovered that the large hall, which I was particularly interested in exploring, was closed during my visit. It was frustrating to pay the entrance fee of 11€ and then find out that a significant part of the museum was inaccessible. It would have been helpful if this information had been communicated upfront or if there had been a reduced admission fee to account for the closure. Overall, my experience at Bastogne Barracks left much to be desired. The lack of historical context and focus solely on tanks limited my understanding of the Battle of the Bulge and its importance to the region. Additionally, the closure of the large hall without any prior notice was disappointing, especially considering the price of admission. I hope the museum takes these criticisms into account and makes the necessary improvements to provide a more comprehensive and informative experience for future visitors.

If you go to one museum in Bastogne, it should be this one. The collection of tanks, vehicles and other military items is one of the best I've ever seen. Choose this place over the Bastogne Museum.

Historical place to visit in Wallonia, Belgium. If you're a WWII buff or just interested in the history of the conflict then this is the place to go. There are lots of armored vehicles and many other weaponry from WWII. There is a canteen which serves hot and cold beverages. Snacks are available but the choice is very limited. Friendly service though! Highly recommend!

Would have had a better score but the main hall was closed when we went. If you like military hardware, not just tanks, this is worth a visit. And there is an excellent Virtual Reality view of the inside of a Sherman Tank.

Amazing museum and garage where military vehicles from World War II are restored. the only negative point is that the historical part of the museum is in renovation and will not be open before two years. In past the museum was free, now you have to pay 10 euros for enter but you are limited at the garage and not possible to visit the historic area.

(Translated by Google) It doesn't look like much from the outside, but you follow the arrows and you come to a shed where you can admire very well restored military vehicles. Admission is € 10.00 per person, which we thought was reasonable.

(Translated by Google) How nice is this! The Bastogne Barracks is a War Heritage Institute, for € 8, - p.p. you get a 2.5-hour tour from an enthusiastic guide (military veteran), and you will not be bored for a moment! Impressive to hear and see what the Battle of the Bulge has meant and how the American General McAuliffe has become a 'legend'. There is also a large warehouse on the site with a beautiful exhibition of a very wide range of rolling war equipment; German, Russian, French, British, Canadian and American war materiel is placed next to each other brotherly, in tip-top condition. (Original) Wat is dít leuk!

(Translated by Google) Very interesting museum consisting of several buildings (original) that belonged to the headquarters of the American 101st airborne division. It is located in Bastogne and easily accessible. Unfortunately, only the vehicle hall (hall with many military vehicles and weapons from WW2) was accessible due to the corona virus. Nevertheless, the visit was well worth it!

Very interesting piece of World War II history. We toured the 101st Airborne Museum and the military vehicle museum which were both full of history for those that are interested in wars and the military. There were tanks and vehicles of all kinds and from many different countries on display. The 101st had several recreations of the way it looked back during WW II and for the famous Christmas Dinner and the office where the NUTS comment was spoken as well as LOTS of WWII era items to see. Definitely worth a stop during any trip to Bastogne.

Literally a shed full of amazing restored WW2 tanks and vehicles... with more outside. I understand that the display is now much smaller that it was before. Access to the wider Barracks and the original WW2 command post is no longer open to the public, which was disappointing. NUTS!

This museum includes two large buildings that have a large number of war vehicles including tanks and trucks.

  • 5/5 TT B. 2 years ago on Google
This is an amazing place. Most of the vehicles are restored and drivable. The two gentlemen at the door to the museum were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They told us about the buildings and where General McAuliffe told the German's "Nuts". If you like military vehicles this is a must see.

It is hard to get in because there is a gate and it takes some waiting before a guard will come and tell you to park across the main road. There is a nice building with a lot of WWII equipment inside, but the vehicle are packed so tight you can't walk around them. There are a number of tanks and vehicles outside, but they are in a sorry, sorry state. This place could really do with a refresh.

Would be personally more satisfied if there was a panther (or there is, but it wasn't on my day of visit). (Original) Generell gibt es schon Einiges zu sehen. (Translated by Google) At the beginning it looks like a somewhat dilapidated barracks area until you get into the vehicle hall and see the well-preserved tanks, tracked vehicles and other militaria. The staff was very friendly. Currently (July 2020 / Corona rules) only card payment is possible. Such an interesting place to visit - impressive exhibition of WW2 vehicles of all sorts, uniforms, weapons and memorabilia. Barracks are authentic and you can feel the atmosphere. Ticket price is 12 euro and there is a free parking lot just outside the barrack's fence. All in all, magnificent experience especially withe the guy who was guiding us. He makes this experience that good. With his interesting facts and jokes he makes all the visit much better.

If you only have time for one museum while in Bastogne, this is the one to visit! Not only is it free, but the guided tours (English available) make this a winner. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and quite funny. Tours are twice a day only and the morning session had smaller crowds. Plan on a minimum of 2.5 hours. This spot has several historical locations (including the famous “Nuts” room) as well as a sizable vehicle collection.

I visited this site a few years back, and forgot to review it then, but it is so cool, I make one now. In short, this place is fantastic if you love tanks, authentic WW2 buildings where famous people resided and if you love enthousiasts talk about it to you for free! First thing to know about this site: it belongs to the Belgium Army and is run by ex-militairy personnel, who love WW2 stuff. Second thing to know: check the Bastongne Barracks for the latest info on opening hours and procedures. Don't just drop by and hope for the best. Plan your visit! If you do that, you can expect to be walking around there for a very long time and talking at length to the personnel running this site. -You get to see an amazing armor collection from WW2 and some later models. -You might get to see AND HOLD actual WW2 weapons if you want -and as a nice bonus, you can also see a very large Desertstorm (1991 Gulfwar) collection, maintained by one of the staff members, but you will have to ask for that one

I believe it is a great museum but even though it says open on Christmas Eve on their website, it was closed when we arrived there. It was 13:30 and I called the security, they said they closed due to Christmas Eve. I had came from Poland for this museum. It is such a sad experience.

As a WWII enthusiast I have visited a number of such museums in my time. The Bastogne Barracks absolutely is bottom of my list. It is actually not a museum at all, as it has no historical descriptions, stories or such like. Instead, it is an old tank garage filled to the brim with guns and vehicles. These are stacked side by side next to each other, with mere centimetres between them. As a result, you can see the front of most vehicles and nothing else. A small sign depicts each artifact, with bare minimum specs (some corrected by hand) - and that’s it. A sore disappointment and twice as expensive as the Deutsche Panzermuseum in Munster, for example (the latter being an awesome museum). I would not recommend Bastogne Barracks to anyone I’m sorry to say...
