We have rented from this business three times during past trips to Cancún. The service usually has always been great and their rental vehicles (for the price) are generally satisfactory. However, this last time we rented was not the same type of experience. We were given a vehicle with an empty gas tank at the time of pickup, and stressed until we got to a gas station to fill up. Literally the gas gauge was below "E". I've never experienced that before from any rental car company. The tires were not bald, but the tread depth was very low and driving the vehicle in rain or on wet streets ended up being extremely dangerous. Most large rental companies replace tired regularly because of liability and get don't want to be sued in court if they were found liable for an accident that caused serious injury or death. However, this company doesn't seem too worried about this liability risk. Sadly, for the safety of their customers alone, they should. This may be why they run this small business out of a camper in cinder blocks also (See other reviews and pictures). Lastly, I had an unexpected change to travel plans because of government restrictions and had to returns to the United States 5 days earlier than planned. This would cut my 30 day rental about 15% shorter than anticipated. The company tried to declare that the last 5 days of the rental they gave me for free so I would receive no refund for the prorated amount. I was able to report this to my credit card company who gladly disputed the amount and charged back the difference when I showed them my return receipt with date and time, but I no longer trust this company anymore. It's sad because I would likely have continued to rent from them every time I come to Cancún if their service and quality had not slipped so much. I tend to be a faithful patron and prefer to always take my business to the same place. Now I'm looking for another company to rent from during my annual trips to Cancún. I certainly do not recommend placing your trust in this business. I was deeply disappointed.

I rented from here earlier this year and last year and had great experiences. Ended up having my other rental cancelled last minute and city car really came through. Car was great, had it for over a month and drove everywhere with no issues! Just booked again and am nervous seeing everyone say how you are quoted for insurance and then they try to charge you way more on arrival, hopefully this doesnt happen and my review will remain the same, awesome company! Update: second visit went just as great!

Please don’t rent from this company. They actually went out of business and don’t have any cars but still take reservations and pass them on to other car rental companies and you don’t know who you will end up with. Very stressful situation. The driver who was supposed to take us to the car rental company from the airport didn’t know where this car rental company was and he at some point threaten to leave us at some random place just because he didn’t know what else to do. We called citycar rental so many times and they didn’t answered. It was like organized scam. Finally after like 45 minutes we were dropped off at another car rental company and found our reservation but payed way more than expected. I wouldn’t recommend at all.

I would truly recommend this car rental company. Everything was transparent, we paid the same amount as prebooked online, nothing extra for the insurance etc. Car was fine. Pick up and drop off at the airport was easy and fast. I would definitely rent from them again.

If you are going to drive in Rivera Maya this place is the best!!! We had no problems with the car, the rental agency was very nice, fast, and gave us a great car at a great price. No bulls*&t extras just a quality car and a great price. Easy to find go outside to the City Car air conditioned Kiosk after running the gauntlet of ppl in the airport and they will arrange pick up to the agency. Then grab your car and go. When finished drop off and they will take you to the airport. Best agency in town!!! Pictures to prove it!!! We always rent from them and we are from the U.S.

I wanted to give this rental place 5 stars but..... There were a series of things that happened that I was not happy with. I liked that they gave me an up front price and didn't try to trick me into buying more than what I wanted or needed. When i arrived at the airport I assumed that there would be a visible mode of transportation available such as a company driver or a shuttle with company name on it. There was not and it was confusing to figure out. Their office at the Airport is shut down so I had to call the company and inquire about how I would get to the rental place. So, I got that squared away after a 30 minute wait. They directed me to 3rd party service called Etransfers. Well I got taken to a 3rd party car rental place called Victory Lux and not a City Car rental lot. It was A bit confusing . So what happened is that, Apparently that specific car I prepaid for and reserved was not available, so I was given a car that wasn't really what I wanted but i have to say it was roomy at least. I ended up getting my car and wasn't really charged more than was quoted when I reserved it. So it turns out that City Car Is moving away from physically renting cars and although they will rent you a car you will be sent to one of their partner rental places. So keep that in mind if you chose to go with City Car rental.

Wonderful service, I had booked with another company that cancelled at the last minute, however we contacted City Car Rental and they got us a car for our visit in Cancun. Wonderful service.

Friendly staff and Daniel was great! These rental place is like 10 mins away from the airport and they pick you up from the airport. They are very good with communication, so they are texting you the day before you arrive and when you arrive to make sure to pick you up in a timely manner. No crazy amount deposit required unlike the other car rentals in the airport. I got a nice 4 door car with less than $100 deposit.
