This is the oldest church in Germany, located in the former East Berlin area and serves as a museum and occasionally as a concert hall. The area around the church is called Nikolaiviertel and there are lots of medieval buildings in this area that you can see, along with transitional German restaurants and beautiful small coffee shops. You can walk around and picturesque little streets and alleyways.

The Nikolaikirche has been a landmark of Berlin's city center for more than 800 years. The basement floors of the twin building, which are made of natural stone, are considered to be the oldest existing spaces in Berlin. During the Second World War, a bomb attack completely destroyed the church. It remained in ruins until the restoration began in 1984, which lasted more than 25 years. A very beautiful and important church.

Spiele, Autos, Puppen, Teddys usw....

Such a cute little neighborhood. You have the impression you are in a small German village 🇩🇪🏘️ very different from modern Berlin. The church ⛪ itself is impressive, the oldest in Berlin, even survived the wars. Few steps from Alexander platz. Worth visiting even just by passing by.

The museum is housed in a beautifully restored section of the church, which itself holds great historical significance. The architecture and atmosphere of the building create a serene and contemplative ambiance, setting the stage for an immersive experience.

This is the oldest church of Berlin, dated back to the early 13th century. It is known for its beautiful acoustics and its 41 bells. It hasn't been used as a chuch since 1938 due to commercialisation of the area. After the bombing of Berlin during World War 2, it took until 1981 to reconstruct the church to its former glory. Most of the outside part of the church is reconstructed. Today, the church is a museum and sometimes used as a concert hall.

Loved how well preserve they have this place. First thing, if you're student, you'll get a discount. The place is not very big, but there are some things you can spend your time while in here. On the second floor you'll have a great view of the place. Also they have a couple of sets of headphones you can use to listen to music that normally was played here. They also have a coin/token collection which is really amazing how preserved they are. If you're interested in religious history this is a great place to have a look.

I didn't go inside the museum. Because the time had passed. But it looks good from the outside.

It's good to learn about Berlin during the medieval era, it also displays contemporary paints. You can climb the stairs and see the huge organ super close and have a nice view of the church's nave from the top. I rented the audio guide (2€) but honestly it doesn't worth - read by yourself as not all numbers were available on the audio guide. Other than that, I had a good time and enjoyed the visit.

The oldest church in Berlin. It is a very magnificent building and stands in the middle of the old city. Normally, the ticket price is 6€, but on the first Sunday of every month, admission is free.

The church is absolutely beautiful, I didn’t know anything about it and I learned a lot. The exhibition is well put together, and everything is very well maintained. I would recommend brining headphones and a wire to connect them to the audio guide, which is very useful and very well made, but even if you don’t you can listen by putting it to your ear (that’s what I did). The people that work there are very kind, they explained everything and they speak Spanish and English (probably other languages as well?). There is also currently a vintage toy exhibition that is just wonderful, I’m not sure until when it will be there. All in all a great experience, well worth the €7 for me (there’s a discount for students I believe). Thank you!

The feeling of entering in Niklolaiviertel is indescribable. For a place that was almost completely destroyed in WWII this village is like a medieval small city. Awesome tiny buildings with front stairs, typical restraurants, shops and a nice square near the Nikolaikirche: a church built in 1230!

Quaint unforgotten part of Berlin, not too many tourists. Old traditional buildings, a must see if you want to get away from the glitz and glamour of Alexanderplatz

  • 4/5 Kuba H. 10 months ago on Google
I had a good overall experience. The museum is not as big as expected and, for me, the best attraction was plan od the city with some places descriped and showed on map. Other things in the museum weren't as interesting for me, so including the price in my grading, I think it should get only 4 starts. Overall, if you have too much time and money, I recomand.

For me highly interesting, but for others very specialised information on Paul Gerhardt and his time. It would be perhaps good to have more general information on church life in the past to appeal more to international tourists. Breathtaking visual Impressions. Even my lirtle voy, 3 years, was impressed and moved.

Nothing much to see if you have been to an empty church before, but very organized, well displayed, with information about all the exposes.

Such helpful staff, and a beautiful, historic landmark. It's really such a tragedy how it was largely destroyed, but the reconstruction has been painstakingly undertaken to faithfully replicate the church pre-war.

  • 4/5 Markus 1 year ago on Google
Interesting to see such an old church, but I was a little disappointed that there was so much about and from 1600– today, and so little from 1200–1300, comparatively. This is, however, not a fault of the museum but a result of the church being in active use throughout the centuries.
