The good thing is the cheap price. The staff is nice but definitely not enough: everything is always a mess, you can never find a weight in the proper place and nobody is taking care of it. A quarter of the lockers are out of order (see pictures) since forever. The gym is also quite dirty and always overcrowded.

Overall the gym is ok, the design looks quite cool, the equipment is modern, the music is sometimes motivating and the staff is nice and helpful. The downside is that I always struggle finding the right weights since unfortunately, nobody bothers to put them back in place after use. The specific weight you are looking for can be literally anywhere in the gym, even other rooms. Also, it doesn't matter when you go, the underground floor is always super crowded and very messy. The ground floor, where the cardio machines are, is always at max 50% of it's capacity so I don't understand why they don't extend the free weight area there. Update: Sudden announcement of a 40% price increase, for which apparently, accessing to the gym already means consenting to it! On what legal basis can they break a contract? Really bad communication and unclear details

Very tacky decoration, no air conditioning in summer except one part downstairs and really awful music; thumps up though for the machines and the trainers! They are very helpful and friendly. You can bring your own personal trainer and the gym offers also a lot of other training facilities like power plate, CrossFit equipment and classes with different courses. Prices start from 20€. Open 365 days, 24 hours.

I come from FitX at Alexanderplatz and this John Reed is so much better. It is significantly larger, cleaner, sometimes emptier and the staff is much friendlier and more helpful. Now I'd rather come here.

It was my favorite gym for years. It was a great team with motivated trainers, cool techno and electro music, nice people around, cleaned area. Always was a fantastic vibe. Since they change their consept and kids(14-15 years old) from Mc Fit could train in JR its not the same club anymore. Very sad but now it’s a very dirty, too crowded, full of kids and also more expensive place(they change their rate also without any proper information before ,just booked 10 euros more from your bank account!!)with soooo bad music… People with flip-flops like on top of everything👎🏽 Not recommended at all

Look, it's a decent gym. Good equipment, decent facilities. Could be more room in free weights and less treadmills since half of them are always empty. Nothing too much to complain about there. Except for the people - literally half if not more of the customers are 15 year olds. Which in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing, except it seems the staff don't seem to care about educating the youth on gym etiquette. They are disrespectful, they hog machines for 20 minutes while 3 of them rotate, they are loud, they interrupt you mid set to ask if they can take a weight. They are annoying and are constantly getting in the way. They don't put anything back so by the end of the day the gym looks like a hurricane sweeped through it. They generally have little self awareness - they are teenagers after all. It's great that kids are working out, but when they make up the majority of the customers and the gym sees no responsibility in educating them on how to behave, things start to fall apart very quickly. If you're serious about training and don't want to be annoyed, this place will get on your nerves.

Now absolutely overcrowded. It doesn't matter what time of day or night you come to this club, it's always packed and people are queuing up for the machines. The club itself is good and the staff is nice. But what's the point if you have to wait 10 minutes every time before you can exercise?

Only thing going for it is the cheap price. Please do not go here for your own sake. I was staying in Germany for only a month and wanted to cancel by the end, the process was a nightmare. It took three days and In the end I couldn’t even cancel with the actual gym, I had to use an external website and pay there. Not even mentioning the state of the inside of the gym, always messy, people are unpleasant, sub par equipment and so much more I don’t have the word count to explain. Please do not come here for your own good, save your money

Since at least a week there is NO MORE disinfection anywhere, except in the cardio area. Going in 3x a week I saw that almost everyone diligently cleans the machines after use, some even before. Which is also what the videos on the TVs tell you to do. We also tried raising this issue at the front desk repeatedly, and no one seems to be responsible for this. Are you kidding me John Reed?? I will delete this when the sprays and tissues are back where they belong.

I can only agree with the previous speakers, the situation is catastrophic. I didn't even see any staff that could have asked questions, no instructions, nothing was explained, it was like Oktoberfest, it was neither fun nor wanted to go back. The studio name is completely overrated and I seriously wonder whether management is even taking the clear criticism seriously?

It's time to update my old rating, because there have been a few changes in the meantime. The cabins have been renovated, now have a wooden look and are still largely functional (as of April). In addition, the broken, previously permanently open tilt windows were finally repaired after many years. Now we come to the disadvantages. There is no regulated air conditioning, which means: In winter or on cold days (e.g. 5 degrees) it is too cold in the studio and in summer or on warm days (e.g. 27 degrees) it is too warm and too stuffy in the studio. This particularly applies to free weights, where you can hardly train in the summer. When it's cold and windy, almost all the windows are often open, so it's easy to get sick in the studio due to drafts. It would make sense here if the numerous service staff kept an eye on the windows and closed them if necessary. The new hygiene wipe stations are also not so good; unfortunately they leave a smear film on the devices - that wasn't the case before. I almost doubt whether these have any disinfectant effect at all. Another disadvantage is that the studio is often too full. If possible, you should avoid it Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Overall, a fair 3 stars.

The gym is good but extremely poor customer services. I joined the gym during the summer promotions where I was told I won't have to pay a dime for the summer period but this was a complete lie as I got debited 128euros after the second month with no explanation. I've written the customer support many times without any response and the staff at the club redirects me to the web platform which ends me in a loop. My concern is why promise something you will never deliver just to convince people to join. This is a bad service. I'm not happy at all.

Large space with a variety of equipment. Gets packed after work so perhaps try to go during lunch break or early/late during the day.

  • 1/5 Adnan M. 10 months ago on Google
The gym has poor to low hygiene levels. The lockers are always packed with very little space to move and the smell..... Gym lacks a decent ventilation system, during summer time and peak hours, the gym turns into a big oven (just imagine the smell). Gym equipment is not the best in class: Most of the machines have a lot of faults and are rarely fixed. The weight room is always a mess, you can never find weights, everything is scatterred around and staff member are "okay" with people not returning things to their place. This is considered a normal behaviour if the gym area lacks a coach that oversees such behaviour. You can find a lot of unprofessionalism during working out from surrounding people, they're performing really bad moves and potentially building up towards an injury... Again this is totally normal with the gym acting as commercial as possible and not taking care of their clients while working out !!

This gym used to be great. Very fair price, clean, and video classes in the studio that were offered all day. I would come 3 times a week and workout on the elliptical, then do weight training with the video classes. Now they have without any warning raised the monthly fee by 50%, although I thought I had a contract that protects me from this!? With this rate increase, they no longer play the video classes, which makes no sense. The studio is empty, the videos have been made, why not just play them so people if they desire can workout to them? I emailed them twice regarding this and absolutely no feedback. I will look for another gym that offers more and cares for their clients!

The variety of machines is great and they nearly have everything. It is, however very full pre and post work and weekends are nearly impossible. The one thing that I can’t relate is the air quality and conditioning situation. The moment it’s been +25 for a few days the basement area becomes a sauna with horrible air and odour quality … window opening cannot be the solution for a commercial gym.

I requested a Probetraining and had generally a rather negative experience. First, I was only called a few weeks after a request. It was not told during the call or in the email confirmation that it would cost me 20 EUR. An interesting strategy to turn customer acquisition cost into profit 🤨 I then expected that I would at least get a tour - but instead I was given a card and said “the changing room is upstairs”. I was never asked how my experience was and if I would like to get a membership.

    - Old and broken equipment: shabby and dirty machines a lot of them are not working. Empty vending machines, no water at 30°. - Outdated concept of women's fitness: pink and super small rooms. Men are constantly staring at women and trying to talk to them. No awareness regarding respecting women or queer people. - Unreasonable price increase: John Reed increased the monthly prices by 10 EUR. If you complain about this they take the increase back. - Bad and loud music: only male DJs playing misogynistic gangster rap.

My experience with John Reed gym has been incredibly frustrating. Despite signing up for a promotional rate, I was charged more than I agreed to. To make matters worse, their cancellation policy, which supposedly allows for anytime cancellation, resulted in an extra month's payment. Despite reaching out multiple times over two months, their customer service has been unresponsive and dismissive of my concerns. They even offered a 30% discount to try to retain me as a member, but they still haven't addressed the issue of refunding the extra money I was charged. This lack of accountability and poor communication has soured my perception of the gym entirely.

I subscribed to this gym for a month while I was visiting Berlin. Immediately after signing up, I promptly cancelled my contract. However, to my surprise, I recently received a warning in German (a language I am unfamiliar with) stating that I owe payment for the subscription. They also mentioned sending a letter to a physical address (which I do not have in Germany). This experience has left me extremely concerned and I strongly advise against using this gym. It appears that their billing system is questionable and may be designed to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

They snuck in extra charges for every member a couple of years ago. They way John Reed did this is by having a hard-to-see sign saying "by entering the gym you are agreeing to extra monthly charges." There was no reason anyone would want to pay more money. They were just hoping to get away with it by sneaking it past people. They just took more money from people without providing extra value, hoping that people wouldn't notice or think they didn't have a choice. This is an absolutely disgusting business practice.

Full equipment for most activities, big areas with different training options. However, many lockers are broken (some locker doors are missing), the people here are very dirty and make the place super messy. At peak times, there are often no available lockers in working conditions, it is just impossible to find a pair of dumbbells as everybody just drops garbage, dumbbells, mats, and whatever just anywhere: one dumbbell may be on the racks and the second one may be in use, or most likely on a different floor or behind a random machine. Better be ready to spend most of your time looking for something or cleaning other people's mess, waiting in line to take a shower (there are only 3 showers in the men's locker room = long wait time to shower if I go training in the morning before work). When machines, faucets, toilets, sometimes the showers, equipment, etc. break, they take many days before they repair anything (if ever)... I have emailed customer service asking for an invoice, they never replied and they never answer the phone either. If I ask for it at the reception desk, they ask me to contact the nonexistent customer service via email or phone... I like the eye catching concept and marketing strategy, but I regret the poor service, broken equipment, and little maintenance. At least the employees in this studio are all very friendly and try to help as they can 💪🏽✌🏽

Service staff is great! Super friendly and helpful. Interior design is very cool. But it's waaay too crammed, the machines stand so close to each other that a person can barely pass. Also I am missing an air-conditioning, so it's rather hot, given the tight space and the amount of people in it

I joined a month ago this gym and so far so good. The gym have a good design and the equipment is modern and good quality: I also very enjoy the music. The very relevant problem:is that It is generally a torture to find the right weights as people don't leave them in the right places but just about everywhere. I would suggest some panels in which it is expressly asked to place the weights correctly and in the designated places.

It's a good gym as long as you use it. When you want to stop here starts the problem, and it's not a small one. They literally ignore most of messages for cancelling the contract. When they do respond, it's conviniently after the cancellation period ends, and then you have to continue to pay an entire extra year. I am personally very disappointed. I supported this club throughout covid times and didn't cancel my period even when the club was closed. I treated the club with respect and care, and it's very unfortunate how they treat their customers when they want to leave.

Advice to anyone thinking about signing up for this gym: Don‘t do it! I have been victim to multiple verbal assaults by men who do not respect the women‘s training area, both in Prenzlauer Berg & Kreuzberg. Me and my partner have been insulted, just because we respectfully flagged the ladies fit area to some men who were training there. They refused to leave, started a discussion and eventually got really aggressive - we were afraid to leave the gym as they might have been waiting outside - it was that serious! Every time we called the staff to help us, but they were helpless and would only talk to them in a backslapper way. They were not asked to leave or anything. All they said was, that this happens quite often and most of the men are already known for their bad behaviour. Not only did the staff not protect us from these aggressive men, they also didn’t react to a complaint I wrote to John Reed‘s customer service. If this is a recurring event, then why is John Reed not increasing safety for FLINTAs in their premises? This is negligent. Additionally, especially the Prenzlauer Berg Gym is very unhygienic and there are many broken machines. They also raised prices about 30% in July. I‘m glad my membership is ending today.

The gym has well-maintained machines, a nice free weights area (could have more benches though), and a stylish ambiance. The pricing is quite fair for the size of the gym and the variety of the machines. However, I find the music excessively loud and annoying, even if you've got noise-canceling headphones on.

It’s a decent gym. For the price you pay I would say it’s pretty good. The problem is that many people have zero respect for the gym. Far too many seem to be allergic to re racking their weights. They just leave them around, perhaps waiting for their mum or dad to clean up after them. Also note that it gets really busy at peak times, so should you have the privilege of flexibility, I would highly recommend going off peak times and you should be able to get a good session in.

Loved it, finally tried the inbody scan machine. Toddy is a very nice guy, he helped me to install the app and do the scan. It costs 20€ and it is worth it because it gives you all the stats you need to design your fitness plan. The results arrived after 10 minutes on the mobile app and now i have an avatar for myself. My body fat is 11.4% 😃 Go and try it, you will love it ☺️

Overall the gym is good. However there are some serious cleaning issues: 1) not even a single cleaning station downstairs - not even close to the fitness mattresses. Are we supposed to lay on someones sweat? When i enquired the receptionist about the rudely said that corona was over so there was no need. I dont understand hygiene standards in this country - you can also get other diseases through bad hygiene! 2) dust everywhere. Specially around treadmills However, bathrooms are usually clean.

Cons: 1. They have decent varieties of machines comparing to other gyms in Berlin, but fail to justify the price point. 2. The music from their speaker is louder than your headphones. 3. Their SEPA monthly charges are inconsistent, one month is 40, another month is 74. 4. The bar/club alike decoration doesn't compensate their lack of machines, WiFi, water fountain, adequate shower rooms, etc.

Good gym but i went there for a month while on holidays, and specifically asked for a month subscription, and of course at the end of the month, the kept charging me money. I sent several e-mails to find a solution but 0 answser. Conclusion: may be a good gym, but 0 customer service.

I was happy with it until they followed a very ugly policy during lockdown. I cancelled my membership right after. They basically kept charging for all the period that gym was closed and when Germany was under lockdown. I refused to pay for the months I was not able to use but then they started charging me penalty for not paying - later they said they would add that time as additional free months. Although i did contract for a year finishing in certain period and I would prefer to pay for the period I did contract for not for later. It is just odd that they followed the contract rules to charge me the lockdown months and. penalty but not for the period of contract. On top of that, i was never informed that gym was open again and all of a sudden I found my free additional months over. They used the excuse of pandemic to trick people into this which is EXTREMLY UGLY. Beside all they have the worse customer service. Get it together.

Not a great gym. Pros - Open 24/7 - Monthly flexible membership - Cheap - People are friendly Cons - There is no padded stretching area. You cannot do any sort of foam rolling, ab rolling, stretching, or other body weight exercises / warm-up. Big thumbs down for this. It is basic. They will give people injuries when you can't stretch or foam roll release. - Nobody puts weights back. Every time you do excercise need to spend 5 minutes finding weights - Way too crowded in free weight area past 4pm, but there are many, many treadmills upstairs with MAX 30% use. So much wasted space. - Lacking some basic equipment like trap bars. Many ropes are falling apart. Too many super heavy dumbbells, hardly any lighter weights. - They charge 25EUR for a card replacement. Those cards cost like 10cent. They do not have a water fountain, you have to buy or bring. They are like the Ryanair of gyms. Honestly the only reason I go here is because it is close to home. I think they could make this place a much better. I would even pay more if they added some basic improvements instead of spending all the money on chandeliers.

Nice, clean, interesting aesthetic, live DJs, very crowded, and severely lacking in quantity of weight plates. You would be hard pressed to train for strength in this gym. Even if you manage to get a squat rack or bar to deadlift, finding enough free plates to use is near impossible. Ok gym for average folks, but if you're serious, this gym won't cut it.

Not recommendable. There seems to be no control. The place is packed with exercisers. I experienced myself that there were no more lockers and you had to wait in line for the devices. Of course there wasn't any support, or it didn't even occur to me that I should get it. I haven't been there for months now and have given notice. Communication via email doesn't work either. No reaction to anything. Now I pay for another month and then that's history. Bad, bad, bad.

Unfortunately, false commitments and promises were made over the phone, which were then not kept on site. The staff seemed very unfriendly and unprofessional. Instead of being solution-oriented, they seemed rather disinterested. Although I understand that it can be stressful, potential members should still be treated professionally. Unfortunately you have lost me as an interested party. If good customer service is important, I unfortunately have to advise against it.

Terrible customer service, they have no idea who of them is responsible for what. I moved to a new location and asked on the gym’s reception to move my contact to the different gym, they said it possible and I simply need to apply for that online by support. I wrote to the online support, but they said it should be done in the gym. Afterwards I did that all over again just to make sure they understood me, I also brought the online support response to the gym’s reception and wrote to support this whole situation, but no result. Then I thought maybe they would be more helpful if I would suggest to move me to the more expensive gold subscription, but the results was the same. Everyone says it’s possible, but no one knows how should this be done and who should do this. I am very disappointed, since more than 4 months this is still not solved, so I can’t use my membership at all

Okay, at least 24h open. The boxing room was quiet without music which was great to relax a little bit. The cleaning guy was very friendly/ respectful and helpful and seems to run the place and help anyone out. For him I give that place 5 stars otherwise a 3-4 stars. Edit (down rated to 2 stars): Second time not working lockers. And a guy who claimed a machine who wasnt there. Where is the staff to kick-out those people?

Nice design and solid price given the competitors. There is also a good amount of benches and squat racks. Unfortunately there just isn’t enough weight to be split amongst all the machines, racks and benches. The gym etiquette by most also isn’t too good with weight not being cleaned up 9 times out of 10.

Overall good experience training with the machines on the ground floor, one of the better gyms I've been to at this price point. Watch out for leg press machine as the chain on it is defective. I would prefer more ventilation in the free weights room as it gets super crowded and stuffy in there.

The staff is super nice. In winter it can be cool due to the open windows, so it makes sense to have something to wear with you. I think the devices are really okay. In the women's locker room it tends to smell like a drain and because of the large room and the many sports friends it's mostly too loud for me, but it works fine with noise canceling headphones. There are a few negative points, but overall the atmosphere is pleasant, the equipment works well, there is enough paper and desiccant, nice course rooms, different areas and a funky decor. I like going there.

Location/design: would be good, but: Occupancy: Complete catastrophe - far too full!!! Hygiene: below average (because it's too crowded) Music/videos: bad (a matter of taste) Insanely crowded and therefore loud/stuffy/dirty (e.g. on the toilets or the floor of the changing room). Long waiting times on all devices. I tried to avoid the usual peak times, but in the morning or very early afternoon there are crowds of students. Proper training not possible. According to Google, it's heavily visited from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m.... It fits that there is currently a great winter offer to attract new customers... It's nice that I'm still paying my old price but my training is getting worse and worse. Small side note: Drinks vending machine sells including a deposit, but returns are not possible in the studio. Nice tip from the lady at reception: you can go to Rewe or Edeka, for example, and get your deposit there. 🤔

Great atmosphere. Nice people. Sometimes a bit crowded (but where not)

Good gym with plenty of equipment and space. The showers are a bit crowded and air conditioning would be nice for the summer. Some of the cardio machines are a bit dated but other than that, it’s great.

Great gym, fun interesting deco concept, but really big and equipped with all you need. The staff has always been very nice as well! Very pleased of training there :)

Good gym and good concept . But at evening it’s too much people and you can not find some equipment because is lost in the gym. The guy in reception was amazing, super friendly and super helpful. ;)

Tried training there for a few months, but had to give it up, mainly because of the so called personal trainers there. My last day there was this guy "training" two women that were physically present and one lady on his phone. Let's just say he was *not* using his inside voice: he was wearing his earphones and shouting in Portuguese like he was training a group of 20 in a park next to a Brazilian highway. That was not the first time he made it hard for me to train and he's not the only one. Just the worst. Power racks are decent, but half the bumper plates are missing. (they had two of each, but after an event elsewhere, some went missing) I can only speak to the basement on the south side, but it's been pretty dirty for months and absolutely no one puts away their toys. To make a long story short: decent place to train if you can stand the noise and the lack of gym etiquette.

Great training spot with a beautiful design and lots of training machines. The music is modern and not boring :D the only “disadvantage” it’s too hot in the summer but it’s a common problem of all gyms in Berlin so I don’t care too much about it.

Cool aesthetic, excellent pricing, but crowded. This gym allows monthly cancellation even though I pay a rate that’s roughly half of my previous gym’s. So that’s excellent. I like its trippy-kitschy interior design, its friendly staff and its vast range of equipment. The main downside is that it gets very busy. An example: In the evenings, you usually have to wait in line to bench press even though there are 5 flat benches (plus 3 slanted ones).

It's a great gym and has all the equipment you need. However, it's tooo crowded, especially between 5 and 9 pm. Sometimes I had to wait more than 10 minutes for a machine to be free.

Catastrophe. Always full, but consistently understaffed. The young woman at reception hung out with her friend on Instagram for 1.5 hours (throughout my entire training). The comment that there are NO dumbbells or even a mat in their place, but rather distributed everywhere in the studio, was excused with: "I'm alone". Risk of injury is accepted. Three out of four dispensers were out of paper and there were weights lying around everywhere. The Reed must have had to push people into the new premium studio. It only costs €120 per month.

I came there to register with full interest and was even allowed to look around completely. I would probably be annoying when signing a contract because the lady has been working since 3 p.m. and I apparently asked “the same question 5 times” because the cluster, gold and silver systems of her so-called “old templates” were not understandable enough to me . Leave immediately after the sayings.

A real chaos: many things are scattered on the floor, the bathroom is dirty, the decorations are destroyed and it is always overcrowded. It's almost impossible to exercise before midnight. I also think it's important to remind people to return items to their designated place after use. I didn't see any sign in the gym indicating that this was a requirement. Another point is that in the evening I see a lot of people entering and then passing their card to someone else so they can enter. This can be dangerous because it allows anyone to get into the gym without being monitored. In addition, I have already observed some people stealthily gaining access through the parking lot. You enter the gym via the stairs located in front of the locker rooms.

An employee had malicious intentions and was mentally inflexible, I'm registered at John Reed Bötzow and sometimes I feel comfortable there, but sometimes I want to train with friends and my buddy card always works in this gym during the week. Recently, however, we told an employee and thought nothing of it, only to find out a week later (April 16) that the buddy card no longer works during the week. So we asked at the counter where the same employee was standing as the week before. She replied: “The buddy card only works on weekends,” and we had to Repeatedly we asked why that was the case and she answered: “Because I made sure of it” and looked at us with a grin on her face. I find this behavior unacceptable and wish she hadn't wasted her time blocking my buddy card. The employee seemed to have malicious intentions, as changing the card didn't give her any advantage, it only put me and my friend at a disadvantage.

😠 I am super disappointed with this membership. I pay €70.00 for the M package and my bookings are constantly canceled by my partner by email or telephone. Because it's full and I'm told that the club members have priority, even though I've booked a week in advance. I think it's cheeky when I book an...

😠 I've been there for over 15 years, but at most times it's now so crowded that relaxing training is no longer possible.
