COCKROACH found in our main fish dish!! We have no words... We could have but did not make a big scene, we simply asked for the Manager who immediately took our plate away and headed to the kitchen. We left the table and waited by the entrance, to our surprise she never returned to talk to us, and we had no patience to stick around as the nausea was kicking in...

That was bad. So bad. The pictures in other reviews look like not the same restaurant! It was great 10 year ago. We come back every year in Biarritz being foodies and coming back from California to enjoy the good vibes. Frozen food, not hot food, oily and greasy, is no ok in Biarritz! As an owner you should feel embarrassed in addition to have prices worth a Michelin Star not far away or new cool restaurants such as Epoq, Caroe, or the new Ekaitza in Cibour. Everything was awful except the waiter’s energy and smile. If you are at The Halles you’d better go to Cafe du commerce, Chirstera, or Comptoir du foie Gras. To avoid by all means. It’s not was it was any longer 😡🤢

Nice place and quite engaged service but absolutely overpriced and low quality food. To charge 14 euros for every single variant of tapas is definitely on the limit but at the same time the quality was on the lowest level and the portion size as well. Fried Anchovies are absolutely not crispy and duck hearts are without sweetness and any kind of spice. In general the entire food we had was without salt, spice and spanish soul and love. Absolutely no reason to get here again.

A local staple for tapas and good wine! They have a wide selection of tapas inside on the bar, so make sure to check it out. The atmosphere was buzzing on Saturday at lunch time which has only added to our great experience!

Nice bar restaurant with great vibe. They put music at night. Tapas are good. Drinks too. Food was good. Service was okay. They get super busy at lunch so it can take a while but they still are charming. Some dishes are worth it, others no so choose wisely. One of the few places in Biarritz where we didn't feel racially profiled so I recommend 😊

I worked at this restaurant during the summer of 2019. I really liked the atmosphere, working with my coworkers and it improved my French enormously, since I‘m originally from Germany. However I always tried to take my job seriously and oftentimes it made a lot of fun, but it was also very stressful. On the one hand because there were a lot of customers but on the other hand the owner couple and their son made it very hard and stressful to work there. I partly understand them, they want to grow their business, but from my point of view they act to rude and ruthless to accomplish their goal. For example I think oftentimes they let to many customers in, thinking the more customers the more money, but this made it often very stressful for the workers which also lead to a poorer customer service. Still the other coworkers where really kind and pleasant to work with and In overall I learned a lot. So if you are used to working under stressful circumstances I would say it’s fine to work there and earn money for the summer, but if so really check that you sign an employment contract. I would advise the restaurant NOT to be run by the owners son Cesar, since he has a mean personality, which he definitely has to work on. Rather let the restaurant be run by a group of several well working close workers, who are democratically voted for. I can’t say much about the kitchen and food conditions since I’m vegetarian and their vegetarian selection was to that time quite small. But the kitchen standards looked fine to me for a mostly meat based kitchen quality. To everyone I met there: I hope you’re alright, I miss you

The street Cafe atmosphere here is unmatched for its cozy appeal and popularity! The food does not disappoint, and the waiters, all cuties too, are known for their that! They deliver excellent attention to detail, know their menu and also entertain the diners. Great Biarritz experience. There is no parking, not many kids at all, but a wheelchair can be accommodated. Definitely for adults.

Great buzzing atmosphere but the food is overpriced, although large portions, and does not excite in taste terms like tapas should. Overall disappointing

Really had a good time here! The food, wine and service were all good. The preliminary wine selected was not to our liking and we needed up with a bottle Of a better quality full red. The food is fresh. We did a selection of tapas and the addition of fresh salad to our order just made it all very palatable. The service for us was friendly, attentive and generous…. So had a ball: Overall a fun place to be and our brunch was one tipsy affair! The one star less is because it is overpriced and if you know that in advance then it’s fine. Otherwise you shall be in a shock when the bill comes

Meh would be my first and last impression. I wasn’t impressed by the food nor the service. I am pescatarian so I do enjoy seafood like no tomorrow. Being in Biarritz which is on the coast would enable anyone to be open to trying the seafood in the city. We ordered the Gambas (prawns), patatas bravas (potatoes with their house sauce), cheeseboard (mixed with cheeses, salad and their baguette on the side), and their calamari (probably the best thing on the menu). Everything, but the calamari were 2 stars. They got an extra star because of the calamari lol. Would I come here again? Definitely not. However, it’s a great vibe inside with music and dancing on the weekends. According to our server, it’s thee spot to go out to.

A little expensive but they have a good menu variety and food quality wasnt too bad. Very lively ambience and can get very crowded during peak hours. There was also live music and some musicians when we were there on a Saturday night.

We went in because the place had a Spanish feel and the kitchen was open at 4pm. We ordered croquettas with ham (4 pieces) and St Jaques, 1 tinto de verano and a small bottle of water. After we ordered we read the review about the cocroach, so it made us already feel a little uneasy but we wanted to give it a chance. Then the waiter spilt the food on the floor while serving. So I caught some nice fat stains on my new pants. Never mind… The waiter who made the mess dissapeared and never apologized. Someone else with more experience took over. I got a coffee for free and the bill the waiter showed me was around 54,xx. I paid with the credit card and didn’t pay too much attention and didn’t ask for the receipt. All I thought was that they were getting away cheap for the mess they made on my pants. Later when I saw my credit card balance the payment showed up as 59 EUR. I was quite upset but I decided not to walk back all the way to have a discussion and ruin our day. In my opinion the place is totally overpriced for what you get and for the level of service.

A very familiar restaurant that is busy year round and especially on weekends and holidays. Depending on the time/day you could wait a fair while for a table/food. We went on a Saturday night and had a short wait. Took 10 mins for the menus to arrive and another 10 for our order to be taken. Then a 40 min wait for the food. I had the scallops, the daily special, according to the waiter. I didn’t see any blackboard or price and was shocked when the bill came they were €40! Food and wine were good though it’s a little overpriced. It’s a hugely popular place with locals and tourists (national and international). I was with French speakers and the wait staff can speak some English and Spanish (depending on waiter) Menu has English translation. On a busy weekend there are over 200 meals being prepared at once so that’s something to keep in mind. It’s quit a hectic place with waiters constantly rushing by. Don’t expect them to stop and attend to you as you walk in. The waiters don’t manage the tables or availability.

We were told this restaurant sells pintxos all day but unfortunately that not true. Pintxos are served till 2pm and restart around 6(?). You can order off the menu for apps and main meals, prices seem to be "tourist" prices and inflated. We opted for 2 glasses of vin, €17. 1 order of garlic shrimp (7 tiny shrimp), €15 and calamari, €15 for a total of $47.00. I have no issues with paying for good food but I'd call our meal mediocre. Not recommend 😕

Tasty tapas, friendly service, lovely atmosphere! If nothing else, go here just for a little crème brûlée :)

Bar Jean is a basque restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating and friendly staff. The menu is decent, though I wouldn’t say it’s the top pick for Spanish fare. The seafood is a hit or a miss, but when it’s a hit the flavor is delicious. The best part is that on weekends it turns into a super fun supper club after 11 pm!

Fun atmosphere, but as other reviews share, the bill may contain surprises. Manageable if you're prepared and just about worth it. Sitting inside is much cooler on a nuclear hot day as they have overhead fans and possibly air conditioning. Their approach seems 'old school' - padding out the bill as much as possible - rather than making it all so good, you can't stay away. The two euro pintxos on the bar are fun to choose. Be careful with ordering water - they'll bring you an 8 euro bottle of 'Bar Jean' branded water - which we suspected was tap water (must specify tap water for the free stuff). No carafes and no cheap wine - the 'cheap' option we went for was the host recommended local Basque wine at 30 euros (don't do it) - Sangria from the big punch bowl on the bar may have been a better option. All in, there are too many other dining option to run back for seconds. A shame as I was hoping it would become an easy go-to place.

Bar Jean is a great place to have some delicious food. We came here pretty late and they were still open and very lively! We were sat immediately, even on a very busy night and the service was prompt and the server spoke English and French! A bit of Spanish too, which made it a bit easier to communicate. The menu was in French but we were able to get translations using our phone. We ordered: Cheese plate Gambas Fried Calamari Bread basket We also got two glasses of their most popular wine, but unfortunately I forgot to jot down the names. They both tasted great. I would definitely come back.

Really nice restaurant in the heart of Biarritz. Typical basque restaurant managed by a French family. There, you can eat meat, fish or salads. Everything is high-quality and freshly prepared. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. This is a must-go if you’re in Biarritz for more than a couple of days !

Good food and great service! You can enjoy some tapas and drinks at the bar, or sit down for great seafood! Dishes are priced at a good value for its portion and quality. Super tasty, would highly recommend!

A landmark in Biarritz with good food and a nice atmosphere. Can be noisy during peak season.

Amazing! Best tapas without having to go to Spain! Living in Paris I was missing tapas so much, this hit the spot perfectly. The calamari and razor clams were so amazing. Razor clams were perfectly grilled with lots of garlic!!
