A friend and I got the tasting menu and a bottle of white wine. One of the most incredible dining experiences I have ever had! Every plate was fantastic and the brownie changed my life. It was also shockingly affordable. Highly recommend!

It’s fantastic to see how a city like Bilbao, that has a well known culinary culture is still able to create new places that have modern but high quality cuisine. If you like local ingredients and a modern restaurant format, give “Al Margen” a try ;)

Absolutely one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The food was DELICIOUS! We did the tasting menu with the drinks tasting and I would highly recommend. So many dishes made us say “this is the best ____ I’ve ever had.”

Located along the river, it's in a very quiet area. The food is nice, some dishes more original than others, but they are all tasty. The service is friendly. Could be faster at times, but nothing to complain about, it's Spain. All things taste very fresh as well, that seems to be their specialty

Very friendly staff and awesome cooks. The degustation sequence is very interesting. When you stay in Bilbao, it's the place you must have to go.

I had the 6 course tasting menu (only 30 euros), the food was excellent, perfectly cooked, simply presented. Friendly service, excellent wine, and a pleasingly simple, clean décor. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Second time I've been to Bilbao and, of course, got to return to Al Margen... one the top 10 restaurants I've ever been. Keep up the great work in pleasing clients with your awesome food and sincere friendliness, at an amazing price. A luxury that is affordable to the majority of people. If you like food, and ever visit the charming city of Bilbao, make sure not to miss Al Margen!

Good location by the river with excellent service and hospitable waiters. The shrimp risotto is one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. More of a 4.5 stars because we didn’t enjoy the tacos as much.

Had dinner with the tasting menu, good value for money, very tasty ingredients and dishes and good wine list. Best brocolli i ever had. Service was a bit fast for a tasting menu, some break between courses would be better, the location is quite simple.

After a great morning in the Guggenheim we went here for a late lunch and can honestly say it was the best meal we had on our 4 week holiday. We had the tasting menu for €42, which is incredible value.Leek puree/soup, roasted broccoli with a lime mayo, mushrooms with a hazelnut foam, crunchy gnocchi with a pepper sauce, creamy rice with aubergine, chicken canneloni, tostada with beef and finally vanila icecream with dulce de leche . Wine was excellent value and staff superb. Thank you for making our last day in Spain so special !

Good food but lot to improve to be a Michelin recommended place: more sophisticated furniture, treatment with the customer (I did ask to have the steak with a salad or something else instead of potatoes, the answer was a simple “no” after going to ask to the kitchen). But reasonable prices, maybe menú is bit expensive as you can get nearly the same if you order separately.

I really don’t understand where all of the good reviews are coming from. The food was simply awful. All tasteless and nothing had been seasoned at all. We had the taster menu and not a single element of any dish was good. The waitress continued to speak to us and describe dishes in Spanish, knowing that we didn’t really understand her. But then spoke to us in perfect English whilst laughing as we left. A truly awful experience.

We spent our last night on our vacation here and enjoyed the tasting menu with according beverages to each course. Without any question one of the best places we ate during our stay. Incredible food, a must when you are in Bilbao. The broccoli and the mushrooms were especially delicious! The service was helpful and friendly, with some room for improvement when it comes to timing. But altogether very impressive and well worth your time and money!

A very special restaurant on the other side of the Ria. Check out their menu. You either like it or you don't. We were with six. I and some others loved it, some thought it was too expensive and for some the food was too "strange". For example the Mushrooms in egg yolk and the Dry roasted broccoli. I loved the food and the excellent wine. The service is nice but it's true that the prices are not cheap. For me it was worth it.

I liked the service and athmosphere. The waitress was gentle and helped in the choise. Food was delicious. We took two menu with a bottle of red wine (la bicicleta). Everything fast. Area of restaurant looks a bit like a suburb. Would reccomend!

We have opted for the tasting menu of this restaurant, 3 starters to share, 1 fish dish, 1 meat and 2 desserts. Good presentation of the dishes and excellent flavor. If you decide to visit the restaurant you will not be disappointed.

I was recommended this restaurant by tour guide. I think this restaurant rides coattails of Michelen rated Minea next door. I felt like I was imposing and not welcome. No suggestions were made. I was waved up to outside window to initiate service. Food was not great, prices were reasonable. My experience probably would have been better if staff had been more friendly. Maybe just a bad day?

The highlights: the food was fantastic. In particular, the broccoli was some of the best I’ve had, and the gnocchi was incredible. But every dish from the tasting menu was great or better. The lowlights: I don’t normally care about service enough to knock a star off, but there was a weird vibe here with one waitress (struggling) serving all the tables while two other employees stood around on a computer for the entire 2 hours I was there. The courses were thus timed less than optimal, and the overall level of service and attention was less than you’d expect from a restaurant at this price point that’s in the Michelin guide. Not at all an issue with the server herself, but an issue with the staffing. With this in mind, the food made up for the shortcomings in service, and I’d still recommend to anyone in Bilbao looking for a more affordable (€42) degustación menu.

Really glad we’ve found this place on Michelin guide. The food is an art which you can taste. The stuff is very gentle and helpful. Would love to come back on the next trip to Bilbao.

We had a very bad experience in this restaurant. First of all they mixed up our complete order. Secondly, when we politely tried to correct the situation we got a very unfriendly response. Thirdly, when we finally got the lamb that we trierd to order in the first place, it was still cold inside. I am not easily writing negative reviews , but this was a negative experience in every respect.

Food was fine and it is a nice place, but overall we wouldn’t say it is a good value for money. Furthermore, after having explained I was coeliac I was served food containing gluten. It was just a mistake, but an important mistake for gluten intolerants.

Recommended by friends who have lived around Bilbao for some time. Arrived after a nice walk through the city's old quarters. We opted for the tasting. A very good choice. The chefs did their best and we got to taste a delicious array of dishes. The time between courses was too fast for our taste, though, so we could only enjoy ba each course briefly. Consolation that the next course tasted good again. Absolutely recommended! The only downside is that the explanation of what was on the plate was a bit too unintelligible for us. Small inconvenience for an otherwise delicious lunch

Disappointed! I really don’t understand the super amazing reviews for this restaurant. The food was just ok nothing amazing, almost tasteless. Furthermore, the service was bad. We were 3 people and wanted to share the ordered meals. The waiter was not even changing the plates between the entrees and the main courses! So we basically ate in the same plate the entree then bloody meat and fish. This is not acceptable. Don’t bother with this overrated restaurant. On top of that, there is no air inside which is also not the ok in corona time.

👍👍 We stumbled upon this place, which is odd, because my husband is such a foodie and usually knows about every hot place. After getting off the funicular, we wandered into we saw this beautiful spot. Inside, we started researching it on our phone and saw the rave reviews--including one from Anthony...
