Always a good pint reasonably priced with all top sports shown. A great shame it's going to be ruined soon by changing it into cocktail bar change happens but not always for the best

Bald guy behind the counter last night couldn’t have been more unwelcoming to the place. Face on him! Won’t be giving business to someone that can’t even say hello what can I get you when greeted at the bar. Customer service skills go a long way.

Pint of Guinness as it should be!!! The young lad pulled a perfect 10/10 . A lesson to those in Lonfon pubs. A minor downside: the Gent's is ramped and can do with new toilet.

We recently held our annual presentation here for our organisation. The staff were very friendly and helpful in dealing with our requests. The quality and quantity of the food in the buffet was perfect. We really enjoyed our evening in The Old Royal. Thank you to Paul and the team!

Went today for lunch with a group of work colleagues. We had preordered our food with Paul and it came to us within minutes of us sitting down. The food was lovely and was real value for money. The staff were very friendly and checked that everything was alright for us. Thank you to Paul and the whole team.

The refurb is a little bit different and may take a little getting used to for us older folk. But the team are still the best. Big shout out to Jo & Anthony for the hard work they put in.

Great pub and everyone in there was very friendly! For less than 9 pounds I had a beer and the jerk chicken wrap with chips and coleslaw which was lovely. I would definitely recommend to anyone that is in the area or works in the financial area of Birmingham because the service was very fast as well.

Popped in to check out the new look. Very impressed. I enjoyed the new upstairs bar, Tv's showing Cheltenham horses all day and a good atmosphere. Was taken care of really well by Anthony. Will return!

Compared to pre refurb, I love the new decor and furnishings. The layout is great and much more spacious. Windows still don’t close in the downstairs ladies, so potentially still the coldest toilets in Brum. Raised with the manager and he has said he would remedy. New items in the menu and the same friendly staff.

It's been renovated (badly needed) and the new decor is brash, like a mix between a US game show and the Sovereign from Guardians of the Galaxy. Otherwise, pretty much laid out as it was, minus and real ales and charm. Guinness was OK, atmosphere was OK and overall pretty harmless.

Friendly staff, great food, good price drinks, what’s not to like? Well done Old Royal 👍 And now even better! Great job on the refurbishment, looks really smart now and a pleasure to be in. Staff (especially barman Anthony) are friendly and courteous. My food (steak and chips) was excellent, tasty and fairly priced. Nice touch showing the horse racing during Cheltenham, a real gem in the city centre.

Edit review: the place has had a refurb which is a big bonus. Way cleaner now and looks a lot better. Pints are still very good. Decent pub, nice beers, good place to watch football.

Worst experience in Birmingham. We arrived with a dog, we asked if we could go inside with and it was ok. Once inside and after ordering, the woman at the counter "remembered" that the manager doesn't like that dogs enter inside, and asked us to go outside, on a cold weather. After refusing and asking to cancel order instead, they said we could rest inside but we should leave after finishing eating. To the guy at the counter, you deserve better!

First time visitor to The Old Royal tonight around 10pm, quite a late visit for me but on finishing work thought would pop in for a drink and a bite to eat. Little tucked away in Birmingham, but close to Colmore row and worth a venture across pay a visit. Atmosphere - good music choice, and happy crowd, just fine for a Saturday night. Sport on the TVs and well lit. No problem finding a table to sit at. Ordering - Used the QR code at the table to order. Drink came quickly with no problems at all on the service side. Noted no number on the table to order to, so used one from an adjacent table. Could do with this being checked to make easier in future. Staff - Welcoming, friendly and polite. Proactively came to tell me the food would not be available as kitchen closed when spotted looking at the menu, rather than leave me to find out when came to order. Can't fault her service at all. Point to note on the tables - did need to grab menu from another table as one on mine was stuck together with what think was vinegar. Visited the toilets, generally quite clean. But noted randomly there was some pants left hanging up in the gents cubicle! No impact on score as could have just been left there. Little difficult to wash hands as the tap only runs for 3 seconds at a time, ideally could do with a bit longer. Conclusion: Happily revisit. Few minor things above sorted would make it a 5* so hopefully take on constructively as its a nice place.

Decent M&B pub, however you would not know it is M&B, as little advertised. Cosy and clean, decent clientele, far enough away from the drunken yobs that brum attracts. Four in attendance eating fairly average food. Burger and fries are about £10.25, and meat feast pizza was £10, Steak and chips were about £12-£14. All ok, though, nothing mega exciting. Drinks are expensive, as are everywhere, avg £6 pint now. Easy access from train station. Nice cosy pub, nice seating inside and out. Marketing the M&B app would have been beneficial, either by a notice or verbally, as there are food discount offers on the app. Better than most venues, will defo visit again with friends or family, so a healthy 4. Thanks all at the Royal Oak.

Came here for a work lunch. Really happy with the location (we were upstairs) the staff were friendly and good communication, the food was tasty and filling (lovely chips!) And the prices were really reasonable, especially the lunchtime deals. Hope to come back again in future! Thankyou.

My first visit to this little gem today and certainly not my last. Good old fashioned old school pub where the staff are friendly and actually talk to you and have a bit of banter rather than serve you without a smile and a chat like MOST bigger chain pubs mainly wetherspoons. Friendly relaxed atmosphere here and a great menu. The food I've seen coming past me looks delicious and is definitely on my to do list on my next visit. This pub was almost full at 12.30. Says it all .

First time been in since revamp, looks great inside. Top marks to the barmaid who told us pizzas were 2-4-1 when ordering different items originally. Would be helpful I guess to have these such offers advertised - they don’t even appear on the website

It's a great authentic pub, BUT the brewery is closing it for a revamp, it will never be the same all the characters will go and Pat the gaffer is leaving (so sad)

Best Guinness in Birmingham, reasonably priced too. Bar meals are not bad either. Pub always clean and tidy and staff friendly
