Clean but small rooms. Bathroom/shower/toilet in one wet room. Facilities did get wet, but quickly dried. Good sized TV for use when getting ready. Bloc Hotel (£115 for 2 nights) is a good base if you are exploring Birmingham and it's multitude of craft ale bars. Staff were friendly. Bed wasn't too comfortable and the pillows far too soft, but that is personal preference. Sadly we chose a room without a window so this was another mistake on our part as it would have made the room feel bigger. Air-conditioning, TV, heating all controlled via Android/Mobile app, which was quite convenient. Bloc is a very modern, no frills, minimalistic place. Only 2 hangers per room, bag storage under the bed, no wardrobe to hang clothes up. The basic room suitable for a one or 2 night stay maximum. Upgrades were available at extra costs. Subsidized parking available on a badly maintained car park to the side of the hotel. £10 per 24hrs instead of £12 per 24hrs.

Just checking out. Here with work not by choice. Staff were nice.... however rubbish nights sleep. Continually heard the sliding door downstairs opening and shutting and all I could hear all night was banging and clattering through the thin walls. The bathroom is a farce and once you shower in the middle of the room............... which is fun, you can't use the room again without getting wet. I wouldn't stay here again on a bet.

Great location. Great restaurants all around. As a keen walker it's very close to the canals with miles of footpaths to enjoy. The city is also great. Lots to see and do close by. Lovely staff. Very happy with my room. As a solo woman traveller felt extremely safe here. I can't wait to return.

Rooms can be decently priced for the night, located in between the Jewellery Quarter and the walk to New Street Station isn't too far. The cheaper rooms don't have window views, and where the window should be is a blind. However, gives the illusion there may be a window and doesn't feel too small. Bathrooms are nice. If you're sharing, bear in mind at least some of the rooms have see-through bathroom doors. Nice and clean rooms, the smart TVs are good too. You can use chrome cast to stream to them.

The location is excellent being in the Jewellery Quarter and close to the City Centre. Although the basic rooms are very small, they are well fitted, clean and comfortable with great technology and good sound insulation. Therefore I slept well and found the climate control to be very easy to use and responsive. The staff are friendly and helpful. However, if you want breakfast, a kettle and the usual trappings of a luxury hotel, this isn’t for you, but then you should expect to pay about twice times as much!

Had an early meeting in Birmingham on Friday and travelled up the night before. The reception team were super friendly and so helpful with recommendations for local food and directions. Sadly I forgot to ask their names. I booked one of the sleep rooms without a window and had a fantastic nights sleep. Whilst I’d read some negative reviews l, my stay was amazing. My room seemed completely soundproofed, was spotlessly clean and had one of the best nights sleep as it was pitch black. Nice wet room. I’ve see negative reviews based on the size of the room, but it’s clearly advertised as a compact sleep space. I loved it being so tiny - like a Japanese style sleeping pod. Granted it would have been a bit of a squeeze for 2 people staying more than a night or 2, but Bloc have larger rooms for that. Complaints that a wet room toilet gets wet from the shower? That’s sort of what happens in a wet room no? Keep the lid closed when showering and no issue in my eyes. No coffee machine in the room? I never trust hotel room kettles anyway. Nice coffee machine reasonably priced in the ground floor lobby and a number of artisan cafe/pizzeria etc literally opposite so no need for a restaurant. I’ve got more meeting in 2023 planned so will definitely be returning.

I stayed in a 'Sleep' room, September 2022. The room is the bed, basically, and the bathroom is the shower. There's no window, no cupboards or drawers, and no kettle (I brought my coffee machine). The quality of the room, shower, linen & toiletries was faultless. TV was better than I expected, it had Netflix. Adequate free wifi. Absolutely perfect staff. The hotel's a good 20-minute walk from the centre, 5 mins by taxi (I paid £9). There's a handful of nice places to eat & drink near the hotel - I loved The Rectory on St Paul's Square.

Wouldn't Recommend Hi-tech hotel is a good concept however, weren't offered a normal manual key for room. Bedside smart controls weren't working, other controls lagged. Bathroom is a lot smaller than one could imagine, uncomfortable to actually go to the loo. Long mirror in the shower was so unnecessary. Dark cold decor - didn't feel "homely". Dusty surfaces, table wasn't cleaned properly, damp like odour - generally didn't have a clean feel nor smell. Housekeeping staff were polite. Check-in reception staff member not really welcoming and when asked a question, member seemed defensive as they did not understand posed question regarding no-posting/authorising card payment.

Great concept and works just as advertised. Easy to check-in/out, the room was immaculate, the bed was comfortable and a lovely finish to the bathroom. It isn't the biggest room I've stayed in. But definitely makes the most of the space and is ideal for a short trip away for a few days. I would recommend it if you're looking for a great modern place to stay in the Jewelry Quarter of Birmingham.

Booked the double bed room , compact no window and it was brilliant !!! If all you need is bed ,shower and tv for when out most of the day as we were out every day at the commonwealth games . It’s a perfect base . The staff are the friendliest staff in any hotel we have stayed in and couldn’t do enough for us . The climate control in the room is wonderful. The proximity to the tram service - 5 minute walk gets you to town centre in 10 minutes . We highly recommend the Bloc hotel . thank you for a great 10 day stay .

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Bloc Hotel in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter for one night (Saturday into Sunday) and we really enjoyed the experience. We will definitely be repeat customers to this hotel and will look for them in other cities! First of all, there was great customer service! The two women on the front desk when I arrived could not have been more professional or helpful. I arrived ahead of my boyfriend and I was quite stressed and I had my hands full with two small bags and my ironed clothes for the evening. Although you can check in online and bypass reception I had not managed to do so due to driving there, so they helped me check in and had already moved me to the first floor ahead of time as the lift was not working. They also helped me carry my bags up to my room and ordered a taxi for me when I asked for a number to call (I didn't have Uber on my phone). I should say that this hotel is made for people who like great tech, as you are sent a link ahead of time that you can use to access the hotel, get into your room and control features such as the lights and temperature of your room all from your phone. It makes it so much easier and if you can't find the key card that you can get from reception its all on your phone so you can still get in after a night out. On seeing the room, it was very clean and all the furniture made great use of the space. It needed to do this because the room was small, but it was the perfect size for what we needed which was a place to crash overnight. The bathroom had a shower, toilet and sink. The shower was amazing, though it did take a few seconds for me to work out how to get the water to come out of the right attachment and I did accidentally end up spraying the toilet on my first try. The bed was comfy and was a good size, which my boyfriend noted on arrival later on (he is 6 foot 5). The TV was in a good spot to comfortably watch it in bed. Two other things that are important to note is 1) we paid extra for having a room with a window which was worth it and 2) the room had ac which meant we actually slept at night rather then end up sweaty messes. The only thing I would say is, you should definitely be comfortable with whoever you share a room with as the close quarters and glass bathroom door does mean that you can hear and see a little too much! Overall a great stay and would highly recommend.

A lovely room, slept very well. Clean, space a bit deceiving from initial photo on the web. The only disappointing thing was that I was unable to cast from mobile to tv. WiFi signal not very good or not strong enough to upload your movies. Oh, I do prefer to be able to open the windows even slightly. Would I visit again, yes I would.

Cheap enough and nice enough for a short stay. Rooms are small but comfy. Need to shower after getting sorted in the bathroom as the shower doaks the whole bathroom but enjoyed the night there well enough

An Amazing find! I stayed here whilst on a work trip and will be returning. The rooms were very clean, felt airy, and all items within (bedding, TV, toiletries) were to a high spec. The staff were friendly and accomodating I had a great nights sleep! I literally cannot fault this hotel!

Pluses: very comfy bed, large fluffy towels, very clean, very quiet. Pleasant staff. Cost effective. Negatives: Juggling luggage while trying to use an app to access room/lift was tricky. I also found the app not very responsive when adjusting volume on tv. Set the aircon using the app to 18 degrees for a cool sleep, however it kicked back in shortly after and started heating the room again! Disappointed that for all its tech, the hotel's small rooms don't have a USB, so I had to borrow a plug from reception. I'm not keen on monsoon showers, so I used the hand held, husband used the monsoon, but everything in the bathroom still gets a soaking whichever you use. toilet and loo roll included. Floor stays wet so if you get up for the loo in the night you get wet feet. Glass door to bathroom is not sufficiently etched for privacy.

The location of the hotel is great. Tha staff is really helpfull and smiling all the time. Rooms are clean and provided with good equipment but as can be seen through photos on the hotel website, rooms are small, specially bathrooms. Shower space and toilet space crushed. Thus, if you had a shower, do not put socks on till you leave the room. Because wet socks suck;)

Stayed here for a week for work. Great location, nice rooms, the staff were friendly and helpful, what more can you want? I thought the app to control your room was pretty cool. I could turn on the air con 10 mins before I got back!

The smell of regret greeted me, the worse hotel in history. No lifts, so I had to keep walking up three floors. The rooms were so claustrophobic and had no windows. How is one supposed to breathe and inhale fresh air? This hotel deserved ZERO Stars!

I loved staying here, the rooms are really modern. Check in is so easy as everything is done via your phone and you can cast your phone to the TV to play your own music or shows

We have stayed here every time we go to Edgbaston for the cricket. Lovely central place for the NCP car park and eating and drinking places. Rooms are basic, but with good facilities. Lovely towels, plenty of hot water, comfortable beds and pillows. Very clean too. I paid extra for a better room so it also included tea, coffee, biscuits, and a larger TV. Also the bathroom had a walk in shower. Would highly recommend.

Great hotel to stay in, the fact you use your phone as the room key and to control the lighting and entertainment is great no more missing room keys with an additional replacement charge if you have a particularly messy session. It's about a 10 minute walk from colmore row so in my opinion the location is great, it's also in a relatively quite area, the rooms are quiet but you can hear people in the street and in other rooms slightly if it's quiet in the room. The room is small it is designed to be a space saving hotel, but it didn't feel claustrophobic at all, it has a cozy modern vibe to it. The bathroom is a wet room which I didn't mind at all the rainfall shower was also great, overall very happy with the hotel and I will definitely be staying here again

The rooms are small, especially their wetroom (combined toilet and shower area). It's not very well thought out as you are guaranteed to get wet feet if you go to the loo after showering. It was clean and comfortable otherwise. I'm all for innovations such as room key and controls on their website link you are sent. However this is not appropriate as the only light switch control (short of the sneaky bedside switches).

We really like the Bloc, nice and handy when stopping in the Jewellery Quarter. The room was nice and clean and staff very pleasant and helpful. There are several discounts available with local businesses, we ate in the Italian restaurant around the corner and received a discount there.

Absolutely fantastic hotel. We had a complementary upgrade to the apartment room with all the beautiful locally sourced produce which was a great addition. The beds are honestly the comfiest beds we’ve slept in. It was clean, had everything we wanted and needed and we felt at home. Perfect stay and it really made a difference to our trip. The staff were also fantastic, really helpful, happy and friendly and they really tied off the whole experience as a fantastic weekend.

Well situated for city centre or the utilita arena. Both about 20 minutes walk max. And conveniently situated car park right by. £10 for 24 hours. Although this is not owned by bloc. Clean rooms and comfy bed.

Nice little hotel, in a nice part of the city centre near St Paul’s Square. Was perfect for a one night stay. All controls are on your phone, including a digital room key, light switches, air con control and even the television remote, so I wouldn’t recommend for the older generation who aren’t very tech savvy. Love the idea, very modern and relevant, only issues were the tv controls which were a little laggy. The room was quite small but didn’t bother me, but extremely clean, lovely big double bed and large tv and we particularly loved the monsoon shower. Only other criticism would be the bathroom door which is glass so doesn’t give much privacy. I recommend parking at the NCP car park which is round the corner, very secure! Overall a lovely nights stay and would definitely recommend.

Just on our way home from staying here for 2 nights. The staff are amazing and cannot be more attentive to ensure that you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay. We stayed in an apartment and were very impressed with the cleanliness and design. Smart TV meant we could live stream the boxing which was a pleasant change from the archaic sets other (more expensive) hotels have. It would have been 5 stars but on our first night some guests thought it would be a good idea to smoke THE strongest skunk and it stank the whole corridor out and the second night a rather "over exuberant" couple were getting a little carnal in the room next door. We initially thought that a serious assault was happening from to vocalisations of one particular female! This started at a few minutes after midnight and went on until 6.15am this morning with an encore just aftwr 7am. To say that we could hear everything is an understatement! On both occasions the staff did everything they could to address these issues but they cannot control inconsiderate "overly enthusiastic" people who had obviously taken a little "pep me up" to have been so rampant and so very loud for over 6 hours! We would return after assurances from the staff that pur next stay would be better. It would be unfair to hold the staff accountable for the disgusting behaviour of some people!

The rooms are really clean, the service is always helpful and kind. I spent two nights in this hotel twice, The hotel has a good location, close to the train and bus station. Very nice location. Next time I will visit this hotel.

The rooms are really clean, the service is always helpful and nice. I spent two nights in this hotel twice, I stayed in apartments. The apartment from the first time was different from the next one, it was interesting. I slept well and had the energy to explore England. The hotel has a good location, close to train and bus stations. Really good location. Next time I will visit this hotel.

Don't come to this hotel if you're driving! We had to drive due to train strikes and parked in the car park which was recommended by hotel staff. After paying £12 for parking as well as the £8 low emissions zone fee, we left our car and realised that many cars were missing their fronts. The car park is targeted by thieves, and this happens really regularly. It didn't happen to us, but probably just because our car is ancient and we parked it really tightly into a corner. I really think hotel management need to stop advertising their hotel as having parking, and stop recommending that car park. It's not good for customers but it's also unfair that reception staff end up dealing with lots of angry customers. If you're not coming by car, this is a nice hotel but maybe a bit overpriced for the size of the rooms. The bed was really comfy (we slept well despite not knowing if we'd have a whole car waiting for us in the car park the next morning!) There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room, although you can get a free tea in the lobby downstairs.

Stayed here for one night as we were in the city for a gig at the Utilita arena, which was only about a 15 minute walk away. Staff friendly, location great. Rooms very compact but clean, for the price it was totally fine. However, the whole concept of controlling EVERYTHING (including key, temperature control and TV) from your phone did nothing but frustrate us during the entire stay. We are far from technophobes but this felt gimmicky and like technology gone mad - why control the light switches from the phone when a simple switch would be easier?! Same with getting the lift - carrying two cups of takeaway coffee (no facilities in the room) was made a frustrating mission as I then had to put them down, get my phone, go into emails, click a link instead of pushing a lift button with my elbow....that's just daft! I'm all for technology if it makes life easier but this was all a hindrance rather than handy. I dread to think what elderly or less confident people would make of it. For this reason we would not return, but if you don't mind this annoying gimmick it's a good hotel.

Perfect little luxury apartment with its own lounge and two televisions, little door that leads to a courtyard from room. Immaculate. Only criticism i have is the mattress is rock hard so just put duvet under me as was warm night . Would stay again and recommend.

The room was wonderful and the night staff was amazing, but I was denied the right to look for my stuff in the room that would have taken me 2 seconds to grab and as a result of the wait made me miss my train back home. After I had missed my train they allowed me to look in the room I stayed in. This place is ridiculous. From all the other reviews I have read service seems to be reoccurring problem.

The majority of the stay with the bloc hotel was fantastic but when I was leaving the hotel during the evening I went in to ask one of the night staff for the postcode of the hotel and he made me feel uncomfortable and was very rude in fact! We then waited outside as we were made to feel uncomfortable and I saw him roll his eyes at us, if he had helped us to book the Uber and been polite like all the other staff were very helpful and polite, I've visited many hotels and reviewed them and I have never had a staff member speak to me in that manner! Other than that, this stay is perfect for couples, the room is small but ideal if your going for 1/2 nights. The room was very clean, the shower was amazing too! You could cast things onto the tv which was amazing too. Overall our stay was good but staff is a big part of wanting to come back to the hotel.

Every time we visit Birmingham we use Bloc. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble for them. The covid safety measures in place helped to put my mind at ease. On the day of your stay you will receive a link to a website so you can control everything in your room directly from your phone. A great feature. The hotel is just a short walk from Birmingham New Street. Just out of the way enough to avoid the busy centre but close enough that it's easy to return to with all your shopping bags from the Bull Ring.
