I hope there was a way to even remove the 1 star that they dont even deserve. I highly DO NOT recommend these SCAMMERS and FRAUDERS . WATCH OUT: we were not let in to our room, although we had a paid email confirmation and had a booking number. The receptionist transfered our phone call to a lady who unpolitely hung up the phone after informing us that we are not eligible for admisssion. We called again and she said a checkin shouldve been done before 10 PM, which is ridiculous and was not mentioned to us neither by call nor by email nor by SMS. She claimed that it is not her job to inform us, but ours to thouroughly check their website details. Although we told her we were 2 women alone in another city, and it was past midnight and we had nowhere to go, she rudely hung up. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM, and I hope Booking.Com would take action and stops giving access to FRAUDERS like these to their platform.

I loved this place and the people here so much that I end up staying here 4 weeks in different time frame. The rooms are cosy, foods are standard. you will find a comfort outing or living here. Every single person works here like Juliette, Anna Dan, Emma and who even doesn't work here are lovely, friendly and helpful. I felt like home staying here. Sometimes humanity overwhelms everything else and this is one of those kind. May be its a old place but going through renovation bit by bit. Enjoy 😊

Comfortable bed. Room clean and tidy. Staff very friendly. We got there so late at night and Renata let us in. Lyn was also helpful in the morning. Very impressed with the service we got.

All the way from Italy we surely didn’t expect such a vibe check with this place. The staff is super kind and helpful (and welcoming), the atmosphere is a 10/10. We definitely enjoyed the night and the staying, too. Rooms basic as advertised - no ugly surprises -, clean and comfy. All the needed was there and we couldn’t ask for more. Thanks again for everything all of you gals/guys! 🖤 The two Italians on the ENG-USA night

Used the cafe attached to the pub, food is good quality, and excellent value. Their breakfasts are very good.

I do a lot of travelling for work and have stayed a lot of places - Shanahans is the only one I've stayed a full week at and would happily do so again, in fact I hope I get to. Upon arrival the barman Ben showed me to my room on the top floor and was only too happy to answer any questions and explain how things work. My room had two velux windows and an en suite bathroom, even a choice of a single or double bed. Proper Irish pub downstairs with friendly and helpful staff, food available if you give them some notice. I wish I'd got to try one of the breakfasts but was always rushing off somewhere in the morning! I did wonder when I pulled up in this industrial area far from home how the week might go but need not have worried. Friendly locals in the bar and all the staff and owner, Billy, made my stay very enjoyable. Ben and the ladies on the bar were brilliant. Thanks for having me hope to see you soon!

We stayed here for the Bruce springsteen concert. All I can say is don't judge a book by its cover. The staff/ food/ service was wonderful. Thank you so much Billy & your staff x

When I initially arrived at shannahans I thought oh dear this doesn't look good. Looked like a back street pub surrounded by scrapyards. But the minute I entered the place I was immediately welcomed with great hospitality. The staff here are fantastic and could not do enough for you. Are the room basic yes. But perfect for a short stay. Clean lots of hot water what more do you need. The locals are a great bunch welcoming and make you one of their own . I had a great couple of nights here and my mornings were kicked off with a 1st class breakfast. I will most definitely staying here whenever I'm over on a short stay in birmingham. Thank you Billy and all your staff for your wonderful hospitality.

Stayed at this b&b last night. Overall staff very welcoming, made sure we knew where everything was, Made sure car was parked in a safe place. Lynn who worked in the cafe was very lovely and made a wonderful breakfast. Will be returning. Also the blonde haired lady at the bar made us feel very welcome and showed us around.

I am happy to clarify and confirm, I stayed at Shanahans Bar for five weeks. The staff and the Licencee were exceptionally helpful and extremely supportive throughout my stay. They were all so welcoming and profoundly polite and well mannered at all times... Thank you to all the Staff who went the extra mile to accommodate me... The meals were very well prepared and of top quality... The bedrooms were more than adequate. They were cleaned most days and the bedding was refreshed every day. The standard of service was higher than some more expensive and affluent places I have needed to stay at throughout the UK and Surrounding Islands... Upon reading some of the negative reviews posted earlier, I felt these criticisms were totally below the belt and not accurately factual, (although the bloggers were entitled to form their own opinions,) I felt these were just plain nasty and an attempt to defunct and put down a very good establishment and Goodwill of all concerned, especially the Licencee... Probably posted by the disgruntled competion or some disillusioned, hateful blogger who as got quite a lot of free time..... on their hands and who as not got anything better to do. They just want to demoralise, dehumunise and demonise hard working Staff who deserve better for their dedication in providing a very good service to all without malice or prejudice... I am more than satisfied with the service and would highly recommend Shanahans Bar to anyone who accepts Shanahans as a traditional Irish Public House with a wonderful atmosphere, who offer additional accommodation at very competitive rates. I am confident you will be more than satisfied also. It is such an impressive ten out of ten in my book. An overall excellent service... OK, Shanahans Bar is situated amongst a Trading Estate but Birmingham City Centre Future development is quickly modernising the city and not so long in the future Birmingham City centre will envelope Shanahans bar. Therefore the competitive rates for this wonderful and fantastic service will increase expondentionally, or Shanahans will no longer exist to trade... If and when this happens it would be a great shame and a profound lose to all the regulars who keep coming back time after time... Surely, this must be a good indicator of a highly satisfactory service, to the benefit of a high majority which books a room??? At present, the business is thriving and increasing in goodwill daily. Thanks to the hard work, dedication and commitment of the Licencee. His vision and diversity is to our own satisfaction and pleasure... Well done all... To come to a close, I'd just like to say, thank you to all, you are all amazing and are assets to the Team. You have all gone the extra mile!!! Keep up the good work and try not to let those emotional drainers spoil your day or allow them to get you down... Best wishes and kind regards to each and every one of you... RESPECT... Eddy J

Definitely the best hotel I've stayed in in birmingham. When i arrived a was met at the bar by a friendly lady who showed me to my room. Yes rooms are basic but if you just want a cheap short stay then it's perfect. Staff are so friendly and you will definitely get a very warm welcome. You can also have a very cheap full english which a had on the sunday morning which was delicious. The customer service was excellent.

Great location for the price. Paid £90 for the night and walking distance to Villa Park. The pub downstairs is great for watching sports and to get a drink. Free cheeseburgers before the Villa game was a very nice touch. Friendly people working there. We parked at a public car park ten mins away for £4.50 but can park on the roads nearby for free.

This is a gem that shouldnt be overlooked. The room was clean and comfortable. It has a great pub and there is a smell of cigarettes in the room but that wasnt an issue for me. The breakfast and dinners were outstanding. It should be noted there is no parking but we were on motorcycles so the sidewalk worked perfectly. Lynn and Ben are excellent and will take good care of you. Be sure to book directly as they offer added benefits that you dont get when using a 3rd party booking site. Really this an excellent value and a great place to stay

DO NOT STAY HERE filthy place, room stank like an ashtray. No hot water. Some Jamaican guy smoking spliffs in the place and rambling aggressively at us about witchcraft or something. At 3:30 in the morning he came banging on our door saying we need to pay!! Turns out he was partner of someone that works behind the bar. Never could imagine staying anywhere as bad as this. Next to scrapyard just glad our car wasn't on bricks the next day. We did stay for breakfast as people making it werent the people from the night, and this was given free due to no hot water. The lady who made our breakfast was actually really lovely though and the food was good

Room had a dirty towel on top of wardrobe, wardrobe looked like it was going to collapse, empty drinks bottle beside the bed. Told a number for our bathroom and everyone was using it (did not state a shared bathroom) no mirror in room. Kitchen again shared and very dirty Place needed a good deep clean would not recommend

The staff deserve a 5*. We stayed there as it was for one night and close to a venue we were attending, not to mention cheap. First impressions was that the pub needed a good lick of paint to brighten it up, a deep clean and modernising. However, the bedroom and bathroom, although very basic, was comfortable and relatively clean. The staff were very accommodating, helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was value for money and basic tea/coffee making facilities were available downstairs, with access to making toast if you wished to. This venue meets basic needs and we would go back again for a one/two night stop over; would stay longer if the owner invested some money into renovating it!

£95 for 1 night without breakfast for 2. No windows to room other than skylight with strange cord to close blind (which didn’t stop the light coming through) Bedding, towels poor. Situated in amongst car scrap dealers, and that is where you park your car on the road n gaps between their entrances. They advertise free breakfast but that is just bread to toast and tea and coffee. No facilities for alternative food or drink unless taking a taxi, our Uber in the morning was expensive due to this location. Staff are friendly but not return

Really friendly staff and locals. Went on game day, was busy but quick service. And free burgers and hit dogs were given out. Stayed the night, functional room, comfy bed. Doesn't look great on the outside but I'd happily stay again. Breakfast was AMAZING, and such good value
