I'm
not
sure
how
this
hotel
is
rated
4-star.
I
stayed
in
room
229
on
8
Sept
2023.
It
was
an
unusually
hot
and
humid
week
-
more
on
this
later.
On
arrival
at
the
hotel,
we
waited
for
about
20
minutes
to
be
served.
There
were
just
two
members
of
staff
attending
guests,
and
they
seemed
to
be
only
capable
of
working
together
to
serve
one
customer
at
a
time.
The
queuing
system
was
largely
ignored
and
not
enforced
by
the
staff,
to
the
point
they
would
let
other
customers
interrupt
them
from
what
they
were
doing
and
would
then
provide
that
person
attention,
forcing
other
guests,
like
myself
and
even
the
one
they
were
originally
serving
to
wait
even
longer.
When
I
was
finally
served,
I
found
the
staff
to
be
largely
blunt
to
the
point
of
rude.
The
front-of-house
staff
clearly
need
training
in
the
basic
customer
care
skills,
they
certainly
fall
far
short
of
4-star
service.
The
room
décor
appears
to
be
the
original
fittings
from
the
1980's
or
1990's.
Old
wooden
side
-tables,
one
with
a
radio
unit
built-in,
which
probably
looked
modern
when
originally
fit,
now
it
looks
dated
and
not
fit
for
purpose.
The
bed
frame,
also
wooden,
creaked
with
every
movement,
from
sitting
down
to
lying
down
and
even
turning
over.
The
mattress
was
past
its
serviceable
use,
springs
from
the
mattress
could
easily
be
felt
(it's
certainly
not
of
the
same
standard
as
other
budget
hotels).
The
entire
bed
is
just
not
serviceable
and
should
have
been
ripped
out
and
replaced
with
something
newer.
The
window
could
not
be
opened,
in
fact
the
handle
from
the
window
was
missing,
and
the
window
was
locked
closed.
The
room
has
no
air-conditioning
or
other
means
of
ventilation.
Given
that
the
outside
temperature
that
night
was
above
20°C
and
a
humidity
of
approximately
90%,
it
was
completely
unacceptable
for
the
window
not
to
function.
When
we
complained
to
the
staff
the
best
they
offered
was
a
desk
fan!
The
bathroom
was
also
dated.
The
sink
unit
fittings
sloped
severely
away
from
the
wall,
meaning
the
slightest
amount
of
water
ended
up
on
the
floor
(i.e.
when
turning
the
tap
off
with
wet
hands).
The
sloping
can
be
seen
the
photo
of
the
glass
of
water,
by
looking
at
the
water
level.
The
shower
water
flow
was
terrible,
it
was
little
more
than
a
fast
trickle,
and
while
adequately
heated,
was
insufficient.
No
foot
towels
were
provided,
for
when
exiting
shower.
The
bath
towels
were
also
small
in
size,
certainly
not
the
size
I've
come
to
expect
from
a
hotel.
Generally
the
room
was
clean,
including
the
bedding
linen,
and
the
room
featuring
the
most
basic
of
facilities,
open
wardrobe,
safe,
etc.
There
was
a
view
of
the
sea.
Breakfast
was
overall
average,
the
majority
of
the
ingredients
were
of
average
quality,
with
the
exception
of
the
eggs,
both
fried
and
scrambled,
the
egg
options
had
an
unacceptable
flavour.
The
coffee
was
served
from
a
large
urn,
and
in
all
honesty
I
think
they
must
have
been
continuously
topping
it
up
with
hot
water,
as
the
coffee
was
incredibly
weak.
A
cup
of
instant
coffee
would
have
surpassed
this.
TIP:
Don't
book
breakfast
when
you
book
your
room,
I
did,
and
paid
MORE!
While
waiting
to
check-in
customers
who
had
not
booked
breakfast
were
being
offered
a
ÂŁ3
discount
on
each
breakfast,
I
was
offered
no
such
discount
-
so
much
for
customer
loyalty_
The
hotel
bar
dining
area
also
had
no
air-conditioning
(despite
air-vents
located
in
the
ceiling),
instead
they
attempted
to
cool
the
areas
with
a
solitary
industrial-sized
fan,
which
was
in-adequate
given
the
size
of
the
areas.
In
summary,
the
hotel
is
clearly
dated,
and
in
desperate
need
of
modernisation.
It's
fallen
well
below
the
standards
of
other
leading
budget
brands,
such
as
Travelodge
and
Premier
Inn,
it's
certainly
not
worthy
of
4-stars.
I
would
strongly
urge
the
hotel
management
to
spend
a
night
in
room
229
and
justify
the
hotels
rating,
and
the
room's
quality
and
functionality.
