We decided to make reservations for Thanksgiving, & luckily got on the wait list & secured a res. for 6:30pm. A credit card was required to hold the res. Free covered parking was available off to the side of the restaurant, which was nice & convenient. Arriving it was quiet, but it seemed that the staff was busy. Our server was professional, if a bit stiff. Hostess also was setting tables, but I guess that they don't use tray service to reset as she was holding bread plates against her sweater before placing them on the tables. This didn't appear sanitary to us. Tables were beautifully set & elegant. Unfortunately, the small booths on the raised platform were claustrophobic & not comfortable, so we opted to move to a table w/chairs. The server was quite gracious to accommodate us. We ordered iced teas & we accepted the offer of lemon, but we declined the sugar, however the server still brought the sugar to the table. It took up unnecessary space. The amuse was a surprise, but also seemed to be prepared quite early in the day & had lost it's freshness. The prosciutto wrapped figs w/gorgonzola were oddly greasy & tough. The panko crusted goat cheese was also wet & not a nice texture from the barely covering panko. The mixed salad w/pomegranate pips, orange supremes & feta & the squash soup were both delicious & flavorful. Service appeared to be of a fine dining level, but our table was never de-crumbed, perhaps that is not a standard that they follow. Entrees arrived next. We got the Thanksgiving turkey w/ all the trimmings & the King Salmon. The salmon was crispy & delicious, served w/rice w/ imperceptible saffron & a corn/pepper pudding. The turkey was juicy, but we both remarked at how salty it tasted. Perhaps it was salt-brined to keep it moist, but I needed several refills of iced tea just to finish. The bread stuffing was generous & highly anticipated, but it did come off lackluster, w/o much flavor & an insufficient amount of gravy. The accompanying green beans, w/cream sauce, were still slightly too crunchy & several were grey in color. My disappointed came in the small ramekin of cranberry sauce as it was so minuscule to almost be missed on the plate. It was barely half full & I greatly would have enjoyed more as it was perfectly balanced. After dinner was cleared, we waited & waited for the desserts to arrive, w/ no offer of coffee & not sure why this course the timing was so much longer. I understand that the dessert course is classically served w/ a spoon, but a hard crust pecan tart (pie) is difficult to cut into w/ a spoon & shards of crust did fly across the table, still it was the most delicious item of the evening. The house made whipped cream had an odd texture, but excellent flavor. The chocolate mousse was a disappointment. Much to airy, but dense, almost cake-like, at the same time without the depth of chocolate that was expected. Another odd texture & it was not entirely consumed as the pecan tart was. Never did a manager appear in the dining room & although there wasn't anything outstand to comment on, it would have been nice to receive a holiday greeting from a manager at such a named fine dining restaurant. Yes, the server did check on us several times, but again, nothing so egregious to voice a complaint over & we did tip above 20%. Would we return? Yes, we have heard great things about their regular Italian menu & it will be nice to dine on the upper terrace come spring, but we will approach w/ appropriately lowered expectations. After posting this review, I received a tersely worded reply from Richard, the owner, of which he has since softened his response, but I saved the original reply here; "Glad to see you had the time to post this diatribe on every review site. Perhaps we should not have put you on our wait list - then neither of us would have been disappointed". No apology, no offer. I felt my review was fair, balanced & thorough & only posted on 2 sites, but I will now drop a star, due to his attitude & post additionally on TripAdvisor & more.

We're visiting Boise from SoCal. We met some locals at a bar and they suggested Richards for brunch. The bartender chimed and said good things too so we gave it a shot. It did not disappoint. It had a lot of the same things as a traditional weekend breakfast joint - a decent amount of options, good drinks, good service - without the +30 minute wait for a table.

The meal was good. Portions were fair, but enough food. The clams & halibut dishes were served to perfection. One bummer was the pork dish arrived undercooked, so our guest had to wait for them to cook hers a little longer. When it finally made its way back, the two with the clam dishes were almost finished. (Our friend with the pork dish told everyone to please eat while the food was hot. I waited, but was still satisfied with my halibut.) Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. Our waitress was pleasant, but spaced on the creature comforts of water refills (especially to our D.D, who went the full meal without a refill. That was a minor inconvenience, though, because water is probably more of a courtesy.) She did help pair my dinner with a terrific red wine from Walla Walla, WA. Overall, we enjoyed our guests' company (they were from out of town) and meals. We were also celebrating my hubby's birthday so Erica brought him a sweet treat to top his meal off.

A Disappointing Experience at Richard's Restaurant, Inn at 500 To start, we were taken aback when we discovered dead gnats in our food and cocktails. This was not only unappetizing but also raised concerns about the overall cleanliness and hygiene standards of the establishment. Our disappointment deepened when we received an apology from a worker who never bothered to identify his role in the restaurant. Adding insult to injury, the worker casually brushed off our concerns, suggesting that the gnats might be limited to our specific area. However, the irony was evident since we were seated right next to the kitchen, which should have been a controlled and hygienic environment. Such a dismissive response only fueled our dissatisfaction, as it indicated a lack of accountability and a failure to address the issue effectively our dinner at Richard's Restaurant in the Inn at 500 turned into a regrettable and disheartening affair. The presence of dead gnats in our food and drinks, coupled with the lackluster response from the unidentified worker, contributed to a sense of disappointment and a tarnished memory of what should have been a special and memorable evening. In an attempt to address our concerns, I made a phone call the next day. However, I was informed that the managers were in a staff meeting and assured that I would receive a call back. Unfortunately, despite their promise, I never received any communication from the restaurant. This lack of responsiveness further underscored the disappointment and lack of accountability we experienced throughout our entire interaction with Richard's Restaurant.

When I go out to spend this type of money on my food I expect the quality to be very good. I wanted to try a restaurant I hadn’t been to yet, I checked reviews and decided to try Richard’s. This was my first and last time. The Positives were: The service was comfortable, atmosphere was pleasant. The cocktail I got was well balanced. The Negatives: The food, unfortunately, was way below our expectations. We had two drinks, two appetizers, and two entrees. The appetizers started our disappointment for the evening when the portions were less than we expected, but the flavor was alright. The entrees were extremely bland. The prosciutto wrapped chicken with an add on of shrimp, and the fried quail all barely had any flavor. The side veggies (Zucchini) were both extremely runny and tasteless. The best thing we had were the three peppers that came with the quail meal…which is really sad.

What a delicious brunch! We had eggs Benedict and the breakfast sandwich was absolutely amazing and filling! I love all the add-ons you can get with the bloody Mary! We will definitely be back again!

Excellent food and cocktails! Service was fantastic and they were very attentive. High quality, flavorful menu. Pictured is the fig flatbread. It was delicious! Not pictured, I had the king salmon and was so impressed with the horseradish honey sauce on it! The potato’s and beets were cooked perfectly too that came with it! I would definitely be back!

My favorite restaurant in town! The food and service are impeccable. Every meal I have had here has been incredible. The menu changes frequently to highlight local in season produce and meats. Great decor and the staff are incredible.

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here. The food and service did not disappoint! I would have loved a better table, perhaps with a better view. They placed us in a booth in the corner, which I assume was for a more intimate vibe. But it was a little awkward with the table legs from the pedestal under the table on that tiny platform; you have no place to put your feet...like it was meant for a built-in table, not a cafe table. All in all, it was lovely, and the service was excellent. We would recommend this restaurant.

Had our first Richard's experience over the weekend for our anniversary. It was nice to be taken right to our table off of our reservation rather than stand around. Richard's hosts were on top of it. The hand signed card for our anniversary was a nice touch. Our server was very attentive and good. She never let drinks run down and was always prebussing the table as we worked through apps, soup and salad. We ordered the grilled shrimp and fig flatbread. The grilled shrimp with a basil cream sauce was very good and shrimp were grilled perfectly. Neither of us were fans of the flatbread. Would definitely hard pass on that one next time. She had a bowl of tomato basil soup and I had a salad with a vinagerette that was great. Getting into the entrees, my wife ordered the rabbit and I ordered the proscuitto wrapped chicken breast. The Mrs really liked the rabbit but had one of the drums that was pretty dry. Not dry enough to warrant a complaint, though. The sides were great. I went with the servers recommendation and my chicken was phenomenal. One of the most moist pieces of chicken I've had at a restaurant with some really good flavor. We finished the dinner off with complimentary cinnamon apple gelato, cup of tea and coffee. My only suggestion would be to not call the tea "artisan" on the menu then come out with a Bigelow tea bag. Albeit, Bigelow does decent tea, it's not exactly what I think as artisan at a place like Richard's. Overall, it was a great experience and we'll be going back in the future.

I had a great experience for my moms birthday. The staff were very friendly and the server was very attentive to our needs but didn’t bug us either. We ordered the whipped feta appetizer and the presentation was great. It tasted very good. I ordered the papardelle pasta and it was really not my favorite. The walnuts did not fit in the dish and the sauce tasted off. I would never order that again. However, the food did come hot and the squash that was in the dish was good. The sauce ruined the whole dish. My mom got the cheese ravioli with the pesto cream sauce and that was so delicious I wish I had gotten that. I will be coming back. Hopefully Richards sees this and changes the sauce on that dish.

One of the top 10 best meals of my life. The restaurant decor and ambiance was sophisticated and gorgeous. The staff were attentive and friendly. Our server, Giovanni, was especially helpful with menu suggestions. It was difficult to choose items from the menu because I literally would have eaten any item on the menu. The food was beautifully presented, cooked perfectly and really delicious. I highly recommend and will be returning.

This restaurant was spectacular!! I made a reservation for 630 and I was fashionably late so I had to reschedule for 730. The woman on the phone was very polite.I took my wife and we were greeted by a young handsome man who opened my wife’s door for her and proceeded to professionally valet my car. We were seated by the woman I was on the phone with, they had my table ready and looking phenomenal, as soon as we were seated we were greeted by a very friendly waiter who served us our drinks of choice quickly. They brought FANTASTIC bread and oil, and took our order. As we indulged in conversation the waiter politely checked on us several times. I’m used to fancier restaurants so I expected a longer wait, we waited around 45 minutes in the welcoming dining with live jazz before the general manager personally came to our table and said the meal would be on the house. The food came 5 minutes after the conversation and I must say the clams were the most tender, it was fantastic I truly recommend this restaurant. And treat people how you want to be treated.

My book group had a wonderful lunch at Richard's Restaurant on Thursday, March 10. I had the grilled salmon with roasted potatoes and beets. Everything was perfectly cooked and served beautifully. I also had the included side salad with their creamy green olive dressing--absolutely delicious. We shared three luscious desserts. Our server was cordial, efficient, and helpful. I heartily recommend Richard's Restaurant for delicious food, excellent service, and elegant surroundings.

My wife and I celebrated our first anniversary here and it was amazing. We stayed at the Inn at 500 (which I would also recommend) for a couple nights so we had the opportunity to eat at Richard's for both dinner and breakfast. For dinner, I had the ribeye steak, seasonal veggies, and fingerling potatoes, and my wife had the halibut, seasonal veggies, and three cheese raviolis. These dishes were on point. Everything cooked to perfection, and beautiful presentation. The breakfast was great too, they had many traditional options, a little something for everyone and the dishes we got were perfect. On top of all that, the food is reasonably priced for such a high end restaurant. We are both from Boise and have been to just about every restaurant in the valley that's worth going to, and Richard's has become one of our new favorites.

Our Server Matt was very knowledgeable and helpful. The tomato soup and grilled Caesar salad was incredible. My halibut was delicious. I only rate the food 4 star because my boyfriend’s ribeye was less than expected for the price and my father’s scallops were fairly small.

Just had lunch here. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was average at best. Very heavy breading. Side salad with the house dressing was very good. Service was pretentious bordering on rude. Atmosphere was very stuffy and rigid. I do not recommend this place.

This is a top-notch, authentic Italian restaurant. The food was outstanding, as was the service and atmosphere. I ordered the special, a northern cream dish with mascarpone sauce, mushrooms, pistachio nuts and sirloin. It was delicious. The family all loved their dishes too. This is a definite for Italian food lovers.

The service and atmosphere were impeccable. We ordered the halibut and ribeye. Halibut was overcooked and rubbery, all you could taste was lemon juice. So overwhelming that you couldn’t taste halibut. On the ribeye, was told that it wasn’t very flavorful, mediocre at best. However salad and gelato were wonderful so not knocking the entire meal but we will not be back. We’ve never been disappointed with Chandlers, so guess we’ll stick there. We were wanting to give Richard’s a try as no reservations available at Chandlers and willing to try other places. We were also staying at Inn at 500 so Richard’s made sense.

The chicken and waffle was the best I’ve ever had. This was the orange cranberry waffle and 10/10 would recommend!
