Stayed for one night and can say it is one of the worst experiences ever. First off, the receptionist (male) was very rude upon arrival. He is the first person I saw upon arrival and he gave me the worst impression ever. Should probably work on his customer service skills considering he is the face of the hotel when customers arrive I then went to get a coffee and the cafe wasn't open. No idea why but he tried to lie to me and say the room was being cleaned but was happy to take an extra £20 and we could go in the room with no issue? Secondly, the room smelt like it hadn't been cleaned for thousands of years. The room really needs a refurbishment infact say that for the whole hotel. There was dust everywhere. The TV was free view which is a big sad. Gave a kettle and no coffee nothing which is pointless. The checkout was supposed to be flexible but turned out to be 10am which was very annoying. The shower was actually good so that was a plus. I know it is a budget hotel but I'd avoid it and just get an Airbnb for the same price where you're not gonna get scammed.

After we paid for the room we were constantly harassed all night by the staff, asking us invasive and personal questions. Then 2 staff there randomly came to our room, searched all our belongings without consent and without a valid reason took 100 pound worth of belongings and then kicked us on the street at 1am on a Saturday night without no where to go and no refund. When we tried to politely have a conversation with them they didn’t respect our feelings and called the police on us instantly. Would not recommend if you are under the age of twenty five or Asian because they will discriminate against you.

Suffice to say that the outside of this hotel is embarrassing. Even the steps are dirty that lead to the main entrance. People smoking outside the main entrance which is very off putting and disgusting if you don’t really want to die from cancer. There are signs but they’re ignored and I’m sure staff were seen smoking. Just a bit of a clean up world go a long way. It’s not even a cheap hotel. In dire need of a bit of love..

The rooms were lovely and had a tv, iron, ironing board and hairdryer. The mattresses and pillows were lovely n clean. Most of the staff were very happy n helpful. The restaurant was very nice and the food was good. There were plenty of choices from the buffet. They also had fresh fruit that u could help yourself to. I would certainly go back there!

DO NOT STAY HERE. Staff are nice, not their fault. The place is a kip. Everything is dirty and smells of old smoke. Glass on front door was smashed and boarded up. We couldn't close the bathroom door as there was a large screw in the lock. Even the salt and pepper was dirty, floors were filthy, mould on curtains. Bar was closed and restaurant was closed the.night we stayed here. We were only staying one night thankfully. Photos online of hotel are not correct.

If you’re thinking of staying here, then DO NOT! It is the worst hotel I’ve ever been to in terms of how the staff members treat you. They’re rude and smug. The check in is at 4pm and check out is 10am??! Make it make sense please. Awful experience. All they did was just stand there looking useless. I bet you could get a cardboard print out of a person behind the counter and that would do a better job than them.. never ever ever staying here. Please save your money folks. Rooms are disgusting and catfish to hell. Nothing like the photos online. Rooms stink really bad too.

During my recent stay at the hotel, I found the behavior of the hotel staff to be disappointing. They seemed to lack professionalism and did not make any effort to provide satisfactory service to their guests. I encountered several instances where I had to request the same thing multiple times before it was taken care of, and even then, it was not up to the standards that one would expect from a hotel. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The lack of professionalism and subpar service provided by the hotel staff, coupled with a useless online booking process, makes it a waste of money.

Very pleasant three night stay with national holidays break. Food was very good, staff were very attentive and helpful. 241 drinks between 6 and 9 was unexpected but gratefully accepted. Entertainment on two nights was also a bonus as hotel was not near to town

Was fair Hotel for the price were a bit let down with the room bed was very uncomfortable to sleep on and l was awake for most of the night with pain in my back. Staff were very friendly and helpful and polite when l needed a cup of coffee at 6.30am in the morning because l really did not sleep very well because of the uncomfortable bed. Was clean and tidy.

Do not stay here under any circumstances. I have travelled for work and pleasure for years and this is the worst place I have ever stayed. The staff are rude, the rooms haven't been cleaned in I don't know how long, I wiped round because of Covid and the inch of dirt I took off fixtures and fittings made me feel sick. I stayed here after working 14 hr days all week and finding out my job was extended for another week, I wanted cheap and cheerful and a lie in. The fire alarm went off at 7 am Saturday morning, Staff running down corridors telling us to evacuate...the kitchen had burnt toast. Seriously. My bathroom light went late on my second night, I went to reception to ask for it to be fixed and was told "sit there and I'll deal with you in a minute, I need to check people in" At midnight. Horrendous experience, don't put yourself through it!

Britania Bolton is very well located for a quiet relaxing weekend or a short holiday. The rooms are very clean. The staff are friendly. The service is excellent. There is a lot of space to chill within the building and it gives a very homely feeling. I can recommend this place for a big group holiday

Apart from the location of the hotel, it was all negative. Let me start with the room. The armchair was old, dirty and torn. The kettle lead was broken. The mattress cover is polyester. Very uncomfortable mattress and pillow, I could feel the spring in the mattress. There was an old wooden sliding door to cover the window but it only covered a third. So you could never have a dark room or have privacy in the room. Around the toilet seat was filthy. The car park had a barrier, every time you enter need to press the buzzer and somebody at the reception to open it manually. At one point I had to wait five minutes after three buzzes to be let in. It was not due to security but that there was no body at the reception. It was the worst stay ever. Not worth the money.

Good points, The rooms are clean Lots of parking Reasonably priced rooms There are two pubs up the road both within a 10 minute walk. Ideal for people working in the area Bad points, The hotel is dated Check in is at 4pm and have to pay £10 for early check in Breakfast is pricey (£12 per person) Have stayed here twice and can confirm the bedding hasn’t smelt very clean both times. Walls are thin so can hear people on other levels! Signal isn’t the best in the rooms Some staff haven’t come across very approachable

Room was clean apart from big cobweb above bed and light fitting full of dust. Small fridge very noisy during night and shower was like a power washer but very little heat in water !!! Food on Sat night dinner was worst I have ever had, congealed cold macaroni with cold rubbery over cooked chips!!! Breakfast food looked and tasted better but again cold. Service from certain staff was awful, no polite "good morning can I have your room number"at breakfast, just "room number" barked at you. Certainly won't be back

firstly the receptionists were rude and only grunted when we asked a question. After a long drive we arrive to the hotel to find out our check in is at 4pm and the check out is at 10am. They even mentioned that if we missed the checkout we would be charged for an extra fee. The rooms are a horrible mess as the room we had stinks of vomit, the toilet door was broken as it didn’t lock or close properly, we even informed the reception to which they said they’ll send someone, no one came though. The room itself looked as if they hadn’t maintained it for the last 30 years as the walls and counters looked beat up. The 2nd room we had was missing our room mirror but at least it didn’t have a displeasing odour from when we arrived. For this hotels rate i’d much rather stay in a Premier Inn as the quality and service there is a god send compared to this miserable hotel. The staff in this hotel are horrible little reprobates who will never achieve anything in their measly little lives except the Asian worker, Awais as he gave us free water.

Staff are slow miserable rude and scruffy looking. You need i.d to check in. My room was cold dirty and had no heater or bath plug and was shabby and outdated. I had to go down to reception and ask for a heater twice and got told they were busy and they will bring one when there ready. Not a nice place to stay.

The bathroom was nice but it needed a good clean, in the bedroom, the bed was really comfortable but everything else needed a good painting because the walls and the paint walls were in a mess and the food was basic and not much taste 😞

Never again. Upon arrival. Plenty of parking. Probably because it’s an avoided destination I was greeted initially by the desk, who immediately enquired why I was late as the room had been ready since 3 200mile, 5.5hour journey. Keycard was given to me, unfortunately didn’t work. Had to have it remade. Given a lecture about not keeping it near my mobile. When it was obviously still in the cardboard packet. The room / bathroom. Was clean. No complaints about that. The quality is left somewhat to be desired. Pictures on booking websites heavily edited and set to scene. Bar staff pleasant and have personality! Shame the drinks are overpriced. Woken up the next day at 6am, with the gent? Next door throwing his guts up for two hours. Gave up sleeping then. Breakfast… room was empty. But still took 5mins to get me seated. The buffet was empty. No food prepared. I was eventually informed that they were cooking it for me. There was no input to choice or dietary needs. Plate of partially reheated, some fresh cooked food was presented to me. Photos for effect! Unfortunately will be avoiding Britannia as a whole now. Wasn’t worth the £62.

I have stayed here twice now for work. Cheap and cheerful hotel, the rooms and exterior of the hotel could do with updating. However, my rooms were clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. There is tea and coffee making facilities available, iron and ironing board and a hair dryer is also provided. The best thing I enjoyed in this hotel has to be the shower, very powerful and invigorating. Plenty of parking space, a restaurant and bar is also available. A negative point I'd like to mention is that check in is after 4pm and you have to check out by 10am. I would recommend this hotel if you just need a comfortable nights sleep perhaps while away for work.

Good hotel with super Friendly and helpful staff!! Rooms not 100% depending on which side you're on (left or right)... I'd say the rooms are 90% clean and a bit dated but it didn't affect my stay here. Its the staff that make the place! Big credit to them.

Went on a bus trip and stayed at the Britannia. Better on the inside then on the outside. Rooms were very clean. Food was ok. We had entertainment two nights which was great. 2 for 1 on drinks for part of the evening.

Very easily accessible location with great road links to motorway, Bolton and Horwich. Good car park with security barrier. Very clean premises. Bar and dining area are well used. Room was a little cold and smelt of nicotine but was comfortable.

Hotel rooms dated but clean.my friend slipped in the bath, and sustained injuries to her face, using the bath mat provided. On letting the reception know he just apologised.no accident report filled in, no asking what room no it was. Very poor customer service.

I had a very very sad anniversary visit to this hotel today. I had my wedding reception here in 1983 when it was known as the Crest Hotel and was a nice, well maintained place. Today the place looked exceedingly shabby from the outside and we turned away and drove off. I'm astonished to read that this is three star. It doesn't even look like a hotel, more like a down at heel hostel. Grounds were overgrown and even the hotel sign on the approach drive made the place look like it had closed down.

We ordered an accessible room at least six weeks before online receiving an email conformation. On checking in we were told our confirmed (via email) accessible room was already given to someone else, this was late afternoon which meant we had to find another hotel with accessibility, not an easy task without any help in finding an hotel from Britannia hotel reception staff. Utterly disgusting. No recommendations are coming from me.

Rough round the edges, in need of a decent refurb. None of the room doors are soft close so when people get back through the night you will be woken up. However the bed was comfy and the shower was hot which is all I really needed from the place.

Good location and good service, stayed here more than once, the first time was great, however had a moldy shower curtain and the air con in the room didn't seem to be working the second time. So seems a bit hit and miss

Rooms could do with a good clean, very dusty. Especially the headboard! Wall lights full of dust and cobwebs I had to go around with wet wipes to clean it, dust was visible to the touch! Basic but okay for one night, reception staff could do with a course in customer service. We arrived early and was told if we want to check in prior to 4pm its an extra £10 per hour. Plus you have to be out by. 10am. Not good.

Staff that we spoke too, absolutely wonderful. Room not been checked properly. Found dirty socks. Bathroom floor needed a scrub. Mattress very tired. Paid for 2 full English breakfasts. That where cold , dripping in oil and pretty inedible at £12 each it was disgusting value for our money.

Lovely ambience. Check is 10am, not so good because its too early for time to be on the move. Food is been ordered for uber eats and just ts etc. they are not ordered in house / hotel. I would recommend a visit to all

Its good. The décor in my room was like stepping back into the 1950s when the place opened I'm not lying literally. It's a bit of a pebble - s*** hole and the food is like school dinners but that was exactly what I was looking for what more do you want on a budget.... I stopped here for about a week and I always have a kind of strange affection for it I don't know why....recommend

  • 2/5 Michael P. 1 year ago on Google
The room wasn’t too bad, it was let down by the non working bathroom fan however. The basic cleanliness was fine and the room size was okay. The bloke on reception was absolutely useless, kept saying I will need to speak to the manager. Which really lets the whole experience down. The location is handily placed, just a slip road off the motorway. Having no bacon available at breakfast on the two mornings we were there was very disappointing. I would not recommend to friends and family etc.

Despite being a bit isolated it was perfect for relaxation. If we had travelled by car this wouldn't have been a problem. Rooms were clean and staff available at reception should you require any bedding or sundries.. loved the stars in reception area

  • 4/5 gary h. 2 years ago on Google
Prices are extremely cheap, rooms are in line with price, very good value for money. But when you arrive after a long day at work and the reception staff tell you, you might not have a room it depends if there's been cancellations, after you booked hours in advance. Only to be told they book 6 rooms over so they can cover cancellations and not be short. Very lucky there was a room, could of ended much worse this visit!!!

  • 5/5 Sylvain M. 2 years ago on Google
Excellent budget for a clean and comfortable room. Loved the shower power and the very comfy bed. Couldn't fault the staff either as reception was ever so helpful in solving an issue I had with my booking.

The staff were so kind and helpful with my frail and elderly father. Especial thanks to the lady who brought him his breakfast every day, so very kind of you. Room was suitable for someone with mobility issues and was clean and comfortable.

This hotel has improved dramatically. Cleanliness was very poor when my guest stayed a few years ago. When I told them that I've booked them in the same hotel they weren't so pleased. However once they arrived they were pleasantly happy and when they left they left with a smile.

  • 2/5 Allyson M. 2 years ago on Google
Seriously needs updating . The vending machine needs to be able to take cards. Slap dash decorative finishing in rooms. Noisy bed. Cheap and cheerful. Ok for an overnight stay. Or workmen. Lorry drivers looking for a comfy bed

  • 1/5 Eddie M. 2 years ago on Google
On arrival staff where really rude and didn’t want to accommodate my stay there they told me they where fully booked due to a large sudden amount of guest although I had booked in advance and paid I was also interrogated and made feel uncomfortable about my name. And details I was asked several times by different people and looked at funny in the end I was given a room although their fully booked (magic) I also was charged for a superior room but not given one I was given a room that was very poorly prepared hairs in the bath the bed side cabinets dusty and stained I wouldn’t recommend a stay to any friends of mine waste of money!
