The flavours are great and service is insanely quick. Dosas are delicious but I just wish the thalis had a little more depth. There's a lot of gravies/rasam/curries/yoghurt but having literally 10 different liquids on rice wasn't ideal. Would love to have some eggplant, paneer, or a few different textures.

Absolutely amazing food. Was really really impressed by both the quality of the food and the staff. Especially the manager Naman. He was extremely friendly and helpful. It's so nice to be served by staff members that are so professional. Will definitely be back.

Another Saravana Bhavan offering a range of South Indian dishes and Options to dine in, take away or order online. Getting there: Didn't check the public transport option but driving is the best choice. Ensure you stick to the left most lane given the entry is easy to miss otherwise. Staff and Service: The restaurant is extremely busy and do expect delays especially on weekends. The staff are really service oriented though and are willing to take suggestions. Definitely a good experience. Food and options: Compared to other popular options this one seemed to lack a few signature dishes such as North Indian Options, Fresh Lime soda etc. (despite this being South Indian restaurant other branches do serve both cuisines). This may be because of the crowded hour. The main reason for 3 stars is the taste of the food not being authentic and appealing. Not though that it was based on a one off experience and I am sure given its popularity it was just that - one off aberration! So give it a try.

Excellent customer service. Delicious food. Hygienic and super fast delivery of food through their robot which brings your food to your table. Prices are reasonable too. A good vegetarian restaurant for yummy South Indian food. Kids love their dosas.

Absolutely delicious vegetarian restaurant! Food was full of flavour, I left very full & satisfied. I'm a meat eater & can safely say to any other carnivorous out there - this place is great! The robot waiter is also quite entertaining! Definitely worth a visit

the place got busy as soon as we entered. it was our first time trying this place and tried the food too surely it didn't disappoint us. trued chole bhature and masala dosa, both were good as it wasnt too oily which was something we liked. would visit this place again. even the service was quick where we got our food within 15 minutes. there was plenty of parking space available in this area which were free.

Ordered pongal and upma as take away. Costs 12$ each. As it was in closed brown bag like Uber didn’t check. Came home and found it was Very small container each. Quantity not worth the 12$ each. Dine in is always nice but please don’t do take away or delivery as you will be disappointed with the quantity you receive. Qty reminds me of McDonald’s muffin. So little.

Today had dinner here. Tables small, plates big. Food average. Hospitality very bad.asked for cutlery but no response. No one bother to remove plates. If you order more food you have to hold the used plates with one hand and eat with your other hand This is our first time dining here probably last time also..

Lovely range of food served using a Robot was a novel experience. John too enjoyed the dosas and pakora. It was a wonderful experience with warm hospitality. Staff is very attentive and serves food quickly. My pick of dish was the rasam.

Quality of meals has drastically gone down over the years. Thali has bisibelabath and sambar rice both taste same. Same old menu for the last few years nothing new added, still surprised that a South Indian restaurant doesn’t serve biriyani. Mini tiffin was served cold and reheated based on request. Wash and toilet area was very dirty and stinky.

The food was so delicious. I have ordered Mini Tifin as I wanted to try different dishes. It comes with mini dosa, one vada, pongal, Kesari, mini idlys, sambar and two chutneys. I can’t complaint on any. It was all tasty and better than many other South Indian restaurants here. My friend tried Madras coffee and said it was good too. We made the order using the QR code and was quick. The robot brought the order without any delay. Everything was neat and clean, looks okay. The quantity is not much for the price, but is good enough to fill an average person. Overall the food I had was good and Saravanaa Bhavan doesn’t disappoint me.

Onion masala dosa - Crispy and tasty. The potato masala however requires slight improvement. It was plain. Good for kids. They gave chilli on side when requested. 3.5/5 Vada - It was freshly made. One of the best so far in Melbourne. So crispy and the inside was well cooked. 5/5 Thali - Didn't like the roti, too dry and thick, more like parotta. Next time, I will choose puri instead of roti. However, the whole thali was good. It would be better if they explain a bit more about the different curries in the thali for people like me who don't know much about South-Indian curries. I asked the attendant, she politely explained they were all non-spicy south-Indian curries and she took all the names of the curries as it was in the menu. Anyways we figured which is what and what combination is best to eat them with. Payasam in the thali was my most favourite. 4/5 Service - Both human and robot were efficient. It was lunch-time rush, and they managed to maintain excellent customer service. 4.5/5

Dishes were different to a regular Indian restaurant. The Dosas were fresh and crispy. The sauces were on point. Clean venue and the staff deserve a 10 on 1p for friendliness. The food takes time as good food takes time to prepare. Heaps of parking spots. The desserts looked fresh too. A must try. Also unique was the Robt delivery food to tables.

Jan2024: Back to have the thaali - delivered by their robot. With good Indian coffee. Yummy food, cooked to perfection. Any chance of adding sambar as a regular dish in the thaali? 2023: First time here and loved the assortment of tasty little dishes in my South Indian thaali. Absolutely finger licking-licious !!! Masala tea was good too and they served sugar separately. Yumm Yumm Yumm !!

Similar to other Saravanna bhavan branches, including taste. The ambience was too good when compared to others. Party hall was very spacious and isolated. Our food was served by robot.

I think this is one of its best saraavana bhawan. Amazing staff and amazing food. If you love Indian food, irrespective, North, south or Delhi style choole bharure , even Western Daal baati churma Indian. You must try them.. very vast menu and lots to choose from.

Great food, busy but quick service. Most of the staff is nice just this guy at the reception when we entered and asked table for 2 and he made a face like sit wherever I don’t care. Basic greeting customers entering your restaurant would be nice.

Excellent Daal Baati Churma wow wow wow!!!!! Brilliant, crispy and huuuge Masala Dosa!!! Great Kothu paratha and tasty, authentic kulfi. Also, such friendly service and clean restaurant and kitchen. Kudos to the team for running such a tight shop! Thank you!!! Came here for the filter coffee left with that, a satisfied belly and a big smile!!

Ordered fried rice for take away. Doesn’t look like fried rice no shredded veggies as per description. Never had rice like this before would not recommend to anyone to have indo- Chinese from Saravana Bhavan. Very disappointed and price was too high $15.90 for this type of rice I would never call it a fried rice.

Second time here with my family. I was bit apprehensive due to negative reviews. But had a quite opposite experience. The food was great(I was craving for madras filter coffee, they totally nailed it) service Was quick, staff were very friendly, bathrooms and place clean and well maintained, there was also a cute robot serving food on a weekend we visited. Definitely recommend.

One of the restaurants but everytime order in doordash. They provide mixed alternatives and very cunning’s. A full meal in small container $16.80 (220ml) Instead of what I want they put something else. Just be careful. Staff or who ever manages the online order. You need to improve and respect: maintain a good standard. Stop this stingy attitude when customer pays full amount

This place has always been one that provides authentic flavours of Indian food. The food, especially South Indian dishes are excellent and service is good too. Ambience is cosy to have family/friends get together/party. Highly recommend this place a visit.

Inflation hits Australia Hard! Have been coming here for years now. This time the quantity and quantity of food was not up to the mark. Medu Vada has gone on diet, losing 40% of it’s body weight. Same with Rava Keshari. I believe the quantity might have been impacted because of Sunday and a big party on premise. It still doesn’t justify small non crunchy medu wadas and overly buttery rava keshari.

Scorching hot weather today, almost touching 37 degrees and we were informed that the air conditioner was not working. We were a family of 9 who were looking forward to having dinner here however the restaurant was uncomfortably hot and made it impossible to stay. Please fix your aircon - a basic facility expected at any good restaurant. Thanks.

Best South Indian restaurant in Melbourne. We ordered plain dosa, idli sambhar, masala tea and filter coffee. Everything was delicious. Huge parking space. Robot as a server🤖

Had Masala dosa and kids dosa..It's fresh and had tasty accompaniments. Only issue was with Dosa and it's masala itself! Dosa was too crispy and thin and couldn't find any soft dosa (usually it's as centre of Dosa) to taste dosa! Also problem was with the quantity of masala inside, though it was tasty..very less quantity of masala was served for me and so it's not worth $12.50 price for the dosa! I had good tasty Dosa in Carrum's down temple canteen and Iyer vegetarian restaurant in Dandenong North but their accompaniments were always average or below average!

The south Indian food here is delicious. Nice and clean restaurant and efficient staff. Food needs to be ordered through their website, though you can pay at counter if you're dining in. The Mysore dosa was excellent and so was the medu vada. Had my eye on other dishes coming out of the kitchen and most looked good.

As a South Indian, my bar for dosas and chutneys is high....Dosas here were texturally spot on with enough crispness and crunch on the edges and softness in the middle... however the chutneys were a real let down. Each of them was too watery, bland, and lacking in sufficient tempering. The coconut chutney in particular was lacking in the juicy meaty fat of the coconut- one wonders if it was even real coconut?! There is a gimmicky robot that runs around serving small food items. While it is a cute touch and might be amusing for children,... after 20 minutes of watching it in action with 4 deliveries to the table beside us where the robot loudly repeated the same message, we were a little annoyed by the robot. Perhaps that could reconsider frequency of robot usage?

This is a nice dosa place with other Indian dishes. However, their dosa is the most popular with a variety of different options. The dosas are quite spicy so if you aren't used to normal Indian spicy dishes, you may wish to ask them for milder options. The cleanliness of the place could be improved, as everytime i have visited this place, I had to request the staff to clean the tables again. Hence, why the 3 stars, even though food itself is tasty.

Great South Indian food..I think all are vegetarian based dishes but thoroughly enjoyed..I found service is bit slow..I would like some "sambar" to include on dosa dishes.

  • 5/5 Candid r. 2 years ago on Google
Seriously good masala dosa and the best rava kesari I have tasted. So far we could only get takeaways from here due to covid restrictions but we plan to dine in as soon as lockdown ends.

  • 4/5 Sameer U. 2 years ago on Google
I have had food here before but it's a bit of hit and miss. The idlis I had weren't light and the sambar was average. Like the concept of ordering from your phone and the robot delivery.

I am a frequent visitor. Their food is excellent and far better compared to the City branch. Robot serving food is also cool. I felt one of the restaurant managers to be defensive during crowded hours, like himself finding it hard to manage customers who couldn’t be seated, but that is fine. It is perhaps the COVID restrictions. Generally they are good and the restaurant owner usually finds time to interact with customers during afternoon hours.

As we’ve resumed Dining in, you would love to visit this chain of Indian restaurants by @saravanaabhavanaustralia , They have vegetarian restaurants in Melbourne at various locations serving North and South Indian food, but it is most renowned for the latter with people raving about its taste and variety of dosas, idlis and uttapam. One of the best spots in town for Indian vegetarian meals, priding itself on authentic South and North Indian delicacies of the most wholesome standards . The menu sees a homely assortment of Indian breads, curries, appetisers , dosas, traditional desserts, and even rare North Indian snacks like Chholle bhature and onion bhaji. Don’t forget to try their Thali, hearty combo vegetable meal that includes few types of vegetables, rice and chappatis, sambar gravy, and a special chutneys.

Wish to give 0 star . Management have changed and new people don’t know how to manage . Bad management, bad customer service. Several items are off from the menu Even lassi is not there . They took ages to get poori to the table. Only good thing was food taste. Food what we got was good .

  • 5/5 A M. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing food and very friendly and helpful staff. If you are craving authentic South Indian food, this is the place to go. Also, lots of parking is available, however, I’ll recommend avoiding peak times during weekends as there could be long waiting time. I’m so coming back here !!

I had been to this restaurant plenty of times and I never get disappointed. A must visit place for vegetarian food. So many different options to choose from. Totally loved the robotic serving of food.

Good authentic South Indian food and coffee However wish they would book tables and take calls. Wish there was extra staff to manage over weekend rush, when there's weekend surcharge.

  • 4/5 Karthik R. 1 year ago on Google
Great location and atmosphere at this place. We've had to wait 20mins on a busy Sunday arvo to get a table via their online system but did not mind it. Food arrived promptly and their mini tiffins thali was the best among the lot. Regular south Indian thali was good but felt the chapathi were too big and you'd typically expect at least a couple of fried vegetables with a meal this big but it was one option and a number of gravys. Desert was disappointing as it was sweetened milk with poha which was very simple as we expected something rich and flavourful.

  • 5/5 Wickd C. 1 year ago on Google
Delicious vegetarian restaurant that served the same taste profile as the city branch. Happy with all the food we had including Gobi 65, Channa Batura , Rasa Vada and their Masala Dosa. Will definitely be back again!

Delicious food as always... would love to see mini-Tiffin on the menu (as they have in CBD)
