This place is really a step back in time, in a good way. A huge fireplace, the furniture, the floral carpet and the old bar feels really different after all the blond wood and glass treatment of modern pubs. The whole place feels well worn but well maintained and clean. The food is not outstanding or innovative but it's good honest cooking and that's fine. Prices are very reasonable too. A roast for under $25 with 5-6 generous pieces of lamb, veg and crisp roast potatoes, with lots of gravy and mint jelly is nice and great value. The bar is well stocked with about 8 beers and cider on tap. Service is really quick and friendly. Well worth a visit.

WOW just WOW! a hidden little gem! I highly recommend. Dad and I were impressed. The food here is just amazing. We followed the road for a lovely drive and it ended us up here. On a hot new years day(1.1.23), the place was open, welcoming and its just a lovely old fashioned pub, priceless!. Please don't change and thank you :) (dad said he'd crawl back just for the chips lol) So peaceful and tranquil surroundings and hearing beautiful Kookaburra's. Update 07.01 we were so impressed with our first visit we came a second time, just a beautiful peaceful place with great food (a special thanks to the restaurant staff, exceptional service xx) This will be a regular and recommend to family and friends

We decided on a visit to The Dandenong’s for Mothers Day and The Mount Dandenong Hotel was a perfect choice as it was out of the huddle and bustle of the main part of Olinda which was crazy busy. They had a special Mothers Day Menu for the day but many were from their usual menu found online. The food was fantastic, good old pub food, served by very friendly staff. They were run off their feet and the food was still great! A rustic old world pub and atmosphere with an open fire some would say probably due for a reno, but we loved the old wall paper & decor it made it feel so cosy and was part of its charm. There’s a big carpark next door to the hotel so no parking issues, and some more parking at the shops across the road. We will definitely be back when in the area again.

Tonight we went for a meal, The glasses we got were disgustingly dirty, the staff taking our orders were rude. The garlic bread had enough oil to service a car. The lady who got us a new drink was extremely friendly and the only reason I would have anything nice to say about this place. The food was seeped in oil, and was not enjoyable. I have never had such a bad meal. I’m so very disappointed, and will never recommend this place to anyone, save some money, and dissapointment and go to McDonald’s

It was a lovely meal, the staff were super friendly. Have never been here before, I have to admit it is a very old Hotel and it really could do with a face lift. May I suggest that when having a group for lunch, not to have long tables together where people are sitting in the middle as there is not much room to get in and out. Thank you for the lovely meal with tea and coffee available for our Hastings Seniors Citizen!

A lovely pub on top of the "big hill". Staff were fantastic. Atmosphere fantastic. Establishment is very clean and tidy! The food that we orderd was excellent! The only disappointment was a mushroom gravy came out as a peppercorn gravy (that I can't eat). However, my hubby tried the peppercorn gravy and said it was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back :)

The fire was still going despite our booking was for 8pm, and there were only 2 other people there for meals at that time. The steak wasn't cooked as ordered but was fine because the ambience and friendly staff made for an enjoyable night. We will definitely be back more often

Good old country vibe pub! Good feed with exceptional portions, will fill up the biggest of eaters. A nice place to stop at whilst visiting the Dandenongs, sit in the front beer garden, enjoy the fresh air whilst enjoying a cold beer off the tap with a decent feed. Plenty off the street parking available. 2nd visit and didn't disappoint with the expectations that come with a country-like pub! TAB facilities. Support local. Super cosy pub with good servings of food. very welcoming and friendly group of staff members at the bistro. As for the sports bar, well I've been to a few sports bars but the smell of a beer soaked carpet was just very off putting felt like I was 18 again.

I love the atmosphere here, yes its older and a bit outdated but it's a classic. Our meals were delicious and the service was excellant.

Last minute drop in for a cold drink and we decided to stay for lunch. Older style charm, beautiful food and generous servings. Staff were so warm and welcoming and up for a chat. Live music was a bonus. Highly recommend don’t be deceived by the outside very charming atmosphere. We will definitely be back soon 😊

Delicious meals and generous serving for what you pay. The venue could use a bit of TLC, but if you're not fussy about your surroundings, then this is a place for your next meal.

First and foremost I always want to support local business, however when it comes to service and cleanliness is a non negotiable… where is Gordon Ramsay when you need him. When the place was virtually empty and we arrived with two extra guests we didn’t calculate on the originally book to have the “older blond girl” crack on it, give attitude and say it would have been nice for a heads up when we asked for an extra table. All these reviews below totally sum up our experience. Needless to say we too our birthday cake with us and had it down the road at a more welcoming place.

No choice for zero stars, but we stopped in for a beer in the sports bar. The smell upon entry was extremely feral. I don’t think the carpet has been cleaned for a decade, amassing copious beer spillages. My husband ordered a Great Northern schooner and took one sip and said there’s something wrong. I smelt the beer and it was off, I dared to sip it and almost threw up. He took the beer back citing something was wrong requested a pure blonde. He had to pay despite handing back a full and off beer. We immediately left and found a lovely venue where we rushed to the hand sanitiser to cleanse our souls.

The food and atmosphere is always great, in winter the open fire is amazing. On our latest visit we had a birthday cake. The fancy candles broke, so they put some candles on it, dimmed the lights and brought the cake out. How's that for service. The place really needs way more than 5 stars.

3 minutes agoNEW We ordered a chicken parma and the prawn gyoza with a side salad. The Parma wasn't anything special for $25 you could tell it's not home made and frozen and then deep fried and then add the rest. so charging $25 for that is a bit rich. the dish had Verry few chips and a small salad. (The chips were unseasoned). The gyoza was overcooked the pastry fell apart and the salad dressing just tasted like praise mayo and wasn't appetising at all. The staff member that seated us was Verry nice, however the woman at the bar didn't seem interested at all and came of as grumpy and had no customer service skills and had no interest whatsoever

She was very inviting, Polite, Friendly, Courteous, & very efficient… The Chef was another young lady but extremely good at her job, So thanks, Because Lunch was fantastic….. Mark the Barman was great too, He was a wealth of information about the hotel informing me that the place was built in circa 1930’s after I asked and mentioned to him about just how much Character the Hotel has. I definitely agree to some of the previous reviews. Glasses were dirty, floor needed a good vaccuming, window edges needed a bit of dusting but mainly menu needs to be updated. Young staff member did her best to cover the unprofessionalism of incorrect menu prices and descriptions of the items that they don't even serve anymore. Its not a staff issue, its a management issue. Hopefully if they are reading this, they should take that into consideration. All over the experience wasn't good enough. Place is nice and has a lot of potential, it just needs better management.

Hello! The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful as my Son and I are on lowfodmap diet so we cant eat gluten. The barramundi fish and chips with salad was so nice that we came back to have it two nights in a row. Also we took cakes home and it was the nicest carrot cake I've ever eaten. My son had an incredible caramel slice. We thoroughly enjoyed the lemon lime bitters. Very friendly atmopshere. Good on them for doing a good job and for being warm and welcoming. We are not from the area and it was refreshing to be made to feel at home . Some other food establishments are quite snobby which is foolish because they'll lose customers to restaurants like this one . Thank you so much !!

This place is spacious and can accommodate a pram. It has a fireplace, which makes it very warm and cozy. The staff was friendly.

The good. Lovely big old fireplace. The bad. The place has a musty smell. No music playing. The food is awful. We left 90% of a tasteless margarita pizza on the table. The waitress had no interest in why. It was like all the food, except perhaps the $13 bowl of 1990s potato wedges, disgusting. The older blonde bar woman should take a hike. I ordered a Guinness, which was on the Drinks Menu, but no, she didn't have any. The menus look 30 years old. Could be a great cosy pub in good hands, but it's being run by lazy slobs who should move on. Would never recommend.

In the land of Mount Dandy, where hotel stands tall, There lies a place with meals, both big and small. Frozen they were, or so you'd believe, But fear not, my friend, you're in for a reprieve! The Chicken Kiev Arancini, a curious dish, Deceptive indeed, with nary a rice swish. Arancini without rice, a twist quite bold, But surprisingly tasty, as we were told! The Garlic Prawns, oh, they were a delight, Served on a bed of rice, a culinary flight. Related to Arancini, though not in a ball, Yet the flavors combined, a dance for us all. And let's not forget the Calamari's tale, Defrosted, perhaps, but it didn't fail. Most pieces not tough, a pleasant surprise, In Mount Dandy Hotel, they won the prize! Chef Adam Back, a culinary whiz, In the bustling kitchen, he'd surely fizz. Running off his feet, yet with skill to spare, He served up dishes, beyond compare! Tasty reheated meals, brought forth with speed, In this wondrous hotel, fulfilling every need. So don't be fooled by their frozen attire, At Mount Dandy Hotel, your taste buds inspire! In this whimsical place, you'll find a feast, Where flavors and magic never cease. With Chef Adam Back's artistry, oh so grand, A delightful experience, right at hand! So come one, come all, to Mount Dandy so fair, Where meals are a treat, beyond compare. From Chicken Kiev Arancini to Calamari's grace, You'll savor each bite, in this enchanting place!

The service is as cold and unreceptive as the cobwebs that have been ignored to be dusted from the light fittings. A majority of the bar has been long abandoned with a hoarders array of estranged boxes and various knickknacks. I don’t understand the lack of charm and inhabitence by management, you’re better off seeking a warmer reception elsewhere.

All pretty average. Place needs a good renovation - just very dated. Service is not great. Have to go up to the kitchen to order and separately to the bar to get drinks. Food came fairly quickly although it was incredibly quiet and kitchen closes super early at 8pm. Quality of food was ok. Not cheap but not expensive. Reasonable amount of parking in a private car park - dirt surface and a bit lumpy.

The decor is old, the atmosphere is very relaxed the food is excellent, the service quick and professional. The staff are friendly and.most importantly the beer on tap was fantastic. We enjoyed our visit and will go back again.

The hot chips and gravy were delicious but my steak was terrible and tasted like fish and inedible. Also glasses and soft drink jugs were dirty. Staff were average and seemed frustrated when delivering meals to our table. Also it would be a good idea to invest in some blinds for the windows. I don't like to leave negative feedback, but hopefully these things can be improved once brought to your attention...

Arrived to a virtually empty restaurant bar 2 other couples having lunch. I requested an extra 2 seats and was rudely advised they would have liked advanced notice which I apologised for but with met with a cold ignorant response. The restaurant manager was rude to not only my group but to her staff as well. The food was well overpriced for the product quality that was served to us. The restaurant itself was outdated, dirty and needs some TLC. Very disappointed as I went there with my family for my birthday. We decided to cut my cake elsewhere as we 1. Didn’t feel comfortable 2. Would rather and more clean environment 3. Honestly just wanted to get the hell out of there. After visiting I wouldn’t go back nor would I recommend an others to dine there as it would be a waste of their time and money.
