I dropped in here for a day. Very friendly members, Anthony's bjj classes were amazing gave really nice details. Overall a good gym for beginners or more advanced practitioners. Gym is very clean with lots of mat space. The culture of the gym is very safe for every body. Definitely will be going to Budo much more often.

As someone with a lifetime of experience at different martial arts gyms, I can honestly say that both the coaching and culture are fantastic. It’s difficult for a gym to be everything to everyone - a place for high level practitioners to hone their skills as well as a welcoming training ground for newcomers; this place manages to do it well. I attend the jiu jitsu classes in particular, for which I’ve started commuting longer than I used to, for the convenient schedule, the invested, personal coaching, the great training partners and the fun but focused class culture. I highly recommend this gym.

I have trained at Budo for more than 7 years now, and hands down it is one of the best decisions I had ever made. The senior students and instructors at the time were super welcoming and friendly. The facility is always clean, and is matted with Zebra Mats (top of the line). Michael Hansen and all the instructors are professionals at what they do. Not only have I acquired Brazilian jiujitsu skills at Budo, I've also gained a family away from home. Come try out a class! You won't be disappointed!

Hands down the best community I’ve ever been a part of. Everyone’s there to learn, help each other, improve, with so much humility respect and dignity. Everyone is super friendly and makes sure everyone feels welcomed. I’ve never done any martial arts before this and since my first week at Budo I’ve gone 4x a week without missing any classes. It also has the best prices in town by a far stretch, don’t listen to me though just check for yourself. The lessons I’ve learned at Budo extend far beyond martial arts; it has taught me so much more and has helped build my character and helped me become a better person. All this from going for barely 3 months. I can safely say that it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life.

Budo is a place to start anyone's martial arts journey (or lifestyle) whether you are completely new, returning students, or someone who is looking for cross training. The gym has a friendly and approachable atmosphere where people are willing to share knowledge and advance to the next level together. The jiujitsu (gi and nogi) class is structured on both fundamentals and intermediate/ advance levels, then you can test yourself during rolling. The Muaythai and kickboxing is structured for beginners and intermediate/ advance too where the techniques learned develops throughout sessions. It is an asset to train with Mike, Uriel, Keon, Josh, and Tristan. Overall, it is a positive impact and experience to have while training at Budo.

Great gym! This was the first place I ever trained MT/KB and the environment was very friendly and welcoming. The biggest thing that I appreciate about Budo is the culture surrounding safe sparring. Too many gyms don't even consider the long-term effects of hard sparring, but with Budo you can tell Mike's first priority is the safety of the students. Would definitely recommend! I also never really met anyone with an ego at Budo, which is something that you run into quite often at other gyms in the city.

Budo Martial Arts Burnaby has truly been my second home. Even when I'm injured and I can't train, I still can't stay away and I go there daily to observe the drills and techniques, and to remain connected to the Budo community. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the 3 black belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructors, Mike, Anthony and Braden, and for Chris, who teaches kickboxing. They are all highly knowledgeable, patient, thoughtful, encouraging and supportive. They make you work hard and instill the motivation to keep learning and training. My 10 yr old son has done both BJJ and KB at Budo for 5 years, and I joined a couple years later. Budo is a welcoming, down-to-earth gym (nothing fancy nor pompous here!) where the instructors and training partners are like family and lifelong friends.

Absolutely amazing instructors and community. I've visited some bad BJJ gyms in my past and I am always amazed at what an awesome community Mike, Anthony, and Chris have created here. The professionalism, community, and teaching quality here is fantastic. If you're on the fence about going, 100% try the free class. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Fantastic place for Jiu Jitsu and martial arts in general. The coaches give you the space to discover jiu jitsu for yourself, while nudging and guiding you along the journey. This organic style is blended with attention to detail, and an atmosphere that encourages respect and curiosity. The overall approachability and friendliness of the instructors rubs off on all the students in the gym. Excellent place.

My 10 year old daughter has been attending jiu jitsu at Budo for the last 9 months or so. It took her a little while to warm up to the sport, but she now enjoys learning and practicing the jiu jitsu skills. She took some trial jiu jitsu classes at several different places, but we liked the instructors and class structure here the best.

My kids absolutely love this place. It's clean, fairly-priced and the experienced staff is very patient with the children. They rotate kickboxing and jiu-jitsu every other day so it never gets boring. We'll probably stick with them for years to come.

One of the most welcoming communities I have ever been a part of. Mike and the rest of the instructors at Budo are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Also, this is one of the least expensive places to train muay thai and BJJ in the lower mainland. I have already recommended Budo to a couple friends who have since joined and never looked back.

My 7 yo son has been going to Budo now for about 6-9 months. He has tried both the jujitsu as well as the kickboxing but has really taken to kickboxing. He loves all of the teachers there but especially Mike. The inclusive environment built by the teachers allows growth and challenge without damaging self esteem. Highly recommend this place

Budo is a welcoming and nice gym. The instructors are very kind and patient with the students, and they have good humour! 100% recommend.

This is a true martial arts place. I used to send my kids to another gym, they were adamant on us buying their merchandise such as Gi and rash guard, was charged a premium monthly fee, and the instructor shorted students class time almost on a daily basis. (Supposed to be a 45-minute class but often 35 to 40 minutes). We transferred to a budo due to its location, boy, aren't we happy about it. Michael Hansen run this gym completely differently. He never forces his students to buy anything, often lend his own gear to others and his passion for Jiu-Jitsu is second-to-none. (He often says that he is Jujitsu). He does very detailed coaching and it's very keen on improving his program. Contrary to the last gym we've been to, his classes often go over time. No wonder his gym has acquired a very loyal following, and now me included. Highly recommend this gym.

The instructors here at Budo (Mike, Uriel, Jackie, Keon, Tristan, Josh) Each one of the instructors have there only style of Jiu-jitsu and Kickboxing. They will take there time to explain the fine details and picking there Brain (knowledge) where you can understand and improve your technique and your martial art game. The gym has a great atmosphere, training partners from white to black belts will alway take care of you when your sparring (Jiu-jitsu, Kickboxing) and while you have are learning and having fun at the same time. Your sparring partners will share there knowledge and improve your martial art journey. OSS

Budo provides a learning environment in a very familiar and friendly way, from each sparring you learn something new and the higher belts take time to explain techniques that will enhance your learning in the martial art. These months in Budo have allowed me to grow in the discipline with complete safety, each one takes care of the other and regulates the intensity of the sparring according to the training partner, I definitely recommend Budo for any martial arts lover!

Have been training here for a while since moving to BC and it’s absolutely great experience. All coaches (Mike, Uriel, Josh, Tristan…) are approachable and high-level martial artists. Fair price and great vibe.

👍👍 Great gym that's friendly, chill and competitive at the same time. Diverse environment; from people who are trying to get into shape, to pro fighters. Coach Kajan does a great job of breaking down every technique as much as possible to its fine details rather than just telling you to rep the jab and...

👍👍 I was looking for a quality Taekwondo gym after DT Lim moved out of Vancouver to Surrey for a bigger space. DT Lim was a great place that my daughter trained at for years and represented in tournaments. I was looking for a gym with similar values because driving to Surrey from Vancouver was too...

👍👍 Honest Opinion: I’ve been to this gym just about to reach the 6 months mark. I love it every day! It may sounds like a cliche, but the BJJ family and community here are lovely!
