Terrace on the third floor of National Theatre offers a great view of Bucharest centre, day and night. Good drinks and food. Plus the bookshop on the ground floor which offers very interesting records and albums, even books in English.

(Translated by Google) On December 31, 1852, the National Theater was inaugurated, with the play "Zoe or the Borrowed Lover", vaudeville with songs, a play translated by Bobescu, with music by Wachman, starring Nina Valery and Costache Caragiale. The theater building was built in Baroque style for the most part, had a ground floor with 338 stalls, three rows of lodges, a luxurious foyer with Carrara marble stairs and a large gallery, where students and pupils had free access. . The whole hall had 1000 seats, was considered the third largest in Europe, and had excellent acoustics. In the first two years after its opening, the theater was lit with tallow candles and since 1854 rapeseed oil lamps have been used. Later, the theater was lit with aerial gas and then with electric light. In 1875, the Great Theater in Bucharest became the National Theater, under the direction of the writer Alexandru Odobescu. During World War II, on August 26, 1944, German aircraft carried out a mission to destroy the Telephone Palace, but the bomb missed its target and fell on the National Theater, which was on the other side of the street. Although the National Theater building was destroyed, the theater continued to operate with two "loan" stages - the "Studio" Hall and the Comedy Hall. The site of the old National Theater remained vacant until the 1990s, when the Novotel Hotel was built there. The entrance portico of the building, which disappeared in 1944, was symbolically rebuilt, becoming the entrance portal to the hotel's new glass-fronted building. The current theater building was inaugurated in its original version in December 1973, then considerably modified in 1983-84. , returning to its original external form in 2012-2014. The initial project (1964-1973) was signed by the architects Horia Maicu, Romeo Belea, Nicolae Cucu (et al), the resistance structure by the engineer Alexandru Cișmigiu. The National Theater building, which was built with three performance halls, respectively: Mare, in building A and Sala Mica and Sala Atelier in Building C, was inaugurated successively between December 20, 1973 and 1976. The building remained unfinished on the outside, because Nicolae Ceaușescu did not agree with any of the frescoes presented to be executed. on the walls left "in apparent masonry", it seems that because he did not appear represented. Subsequently, the apparent brick in the area reserved for frescoes was covered with a Rușchita marble plywood. Modification from 1983 - In the 1980s, at the request of Nicolae Ceaușescu, the building was completely remodeled on the outside and partially on the inside (the foyers were partially preserved from the original version), by a team led by the architect Cezar Lăzărescu. The building designed by Horia Maicu's team was remarkable in its time, with an expression that was part of the modernism of the '60s, but remained unfinished on the outside - the fresco with the history of the theater, which was to cover three facades of the theater, was not never made, leaving the body of the theater in exposed brick masonry, under the "hat" of reinforced concrete, elegant, which had become its symbol and which was also fateful (the fact that the shape of the building did not resemble a "house" in the classical sense and brought with a hat, seems to have been the reason why Ceausescu requested its remodeling). Inside, two large tapestries, probably the most important works of Romanian decorative art at that time and until today, survived the fire of the '70s and can be admired even now, in the foyer.

It was a magical night, refreshing long lost memories and making new ones. Seeing live one of my favorite actors, after 20 years made me realize how fast the time flies ( fugit inreparabile tempus ) A classy location for classic acting. Not to be missed: the shows at Amfiteatru which are taking full advantage of the warm summer nights of Bucharest.

(Translated by Google) I saw the song "Dinner with nonsense", but I had a very bad place, in box 4, rank 2, that is ... at cucurigu! I saw the scene through the protective glass parapet, I lost many of the key replicas of the show, especially the ones spoken by the character played by Horațiu Mălăele. Too bad, because it was a very good comedy, written by Francis Veber and interpreted with an exceptional distribution ... Another drawback: the wardrobe did not work, I was left with no money in my arms!

I always enjoy going to the theatre here. The place is cozy and elegant, incredibly central (it's on the so called kilometer 0) and quite a cultural option for going out. People started to choose theater for date might much more often than before. Would recommend, but take care when choosing your play. There are many options, with a wide array of subjects and durations.

(Translated by Google) The National Theater now does not look what it originally looked: the old building was destroyed in 1944, and the theater received the new modern building only in 1973. In the post-war period, the National Theater was at the full content of socialist Romania, which was reflected in its repertoire: productions of propaganda propaganda character prevailed. After the 1989 revolution and the overthrow of the Ceausescu dictatorship, the repertoire changed. During the large-scale restoration begun in 2012, the new National Theater will have 7 halls and a total capacity of 2880 seats. Opposite the main entrance there is a group of statues called "Harlequin Cart", a statue of Ion Luke Karadjale, the most important Romanian playwright, whose name is named after the theater, was separately seated on the left.

A large theater with a long history, recently renovated, is located in the center of Bucharest. It has more than one performance hall, with shows all week. One should buy tickets at least two weeks in advance. I love it every time I go here.

Nice place. Unfortunately, it requires some updates urgently. Bought tickets at the lodge but the chairs were horribly discomfortable. Never noticed before (because I did not need this). There are no handrails on the stairs to the lodges. Now because I broke my ankle o had to be cautious and I was surprised by this

Centrally located, very nice architecture (both outside and inside), superb terrace on the roof, modernized decoration in all the halls, good sonorization, diverse, well known and well played shows. The prices are a bit high but the high quality of the whole context is justifying the price. Fully recommended !

Beautiful building...what is revolting is how the park in the front of the building looks....broken benches, broken bins, smashed pavement....deplorable

It's a little bit beyond my hat to rate an excellent place like this. The facilities, the atmosphere, the show: a memorable experience. If you only know this place from the outside, perhaps you should attend some plays. A 5+ warm stars from me!

It is a famous place and worth visiting for anyone interested in concerts with a good quality, the price is arguably one of the highest compared to other theaters in town. I’d recommend this place for anyone in town visiting for a few days and want to experience the Romanian culture which’s very rich in the country.

I ve been there for Padurea Spanzuratilor, for more than 3 hours. I really enjoyed each moment of the show: the lights, the music, the atmosphere, the actors, everything was so...alive. The actors had a headset with microphones, to hear them well, which was nice. I recomment it 100%.

Characteristic building, definitely worth a visit. A good restaurant on the 3rd floor, with a spectacular view from the terrace to the city of Bucharest.

Within 1 building you find several theatre's stages, huge auditoriums, relevant exhibits of art. The excursion to the theatre is tremendous: informative, useful, unforgettable. As well as the performances themselves (we watched 3). Talented actors, producers, musicians.Friendly atmosphere. Powerful artistic impact! Thanks!

I wish I had more to say, but I just wanted to let others know that there is absolutely no English translations available whatsoever. Don't waste your money like I did.

World class theater. It is an impressive building with a main and secondary stages. The performance I saw was gripping, dramatic and so well acted. The facilities are really big and staff were friendly and helpful. You can get sodas and snacks before the plays.

I guess this is a review of the building itself, which is magnificent, recently remodeled and refurbished. Not everything is perfect, but it's quite close. 😊 The Ion Caramitru theatre hall is huge and beautiful. The sound is great, even on the 2nd floor of the balconies.
