We visited for a special birthday treat as we have previously had many visits for a treat and overall it has been lovely. Not this time....so disappointed 😔 I will start with the service, so it's slow and the tables are not cleared as people were also waiting. A wait at the bar to order.. apparently 'short staff' the waitress said as we were about to leave. The carvery...I couldn't believe it was the same place! All the items were low and some were not available unless there was a longer wait! The plates are cold, again unusual. No beef. Only vegetarian gravy. No cranberry sauce. Some of the roast potatoes are under cooked. The carrots were over cooked and mushy. The parsnips are over cooked and mushy. No stuffing. Tasteless Barely warm food! The facilities were awful, water on the floor and toilet tissue everywhere! Slippery and dangerous. I was shocked..we wanted to complain but waited a while as no one was free , and staff was on the desk on the phone. I am absolutely disappointed and shocked at this visit and experience.

Had no issues here! There was no wait to be sat down or to get food. They had loads of different meat and veg, which were all cooked well, and drinks were waiting on the table for us by the time we got back. The service was friendly and very helpful. And the food was delicious, for a pretty cheap price too. Thanks for a great meal!

I visited Cardiff Gate toby carvery and was served by Bron very friendly and polite waitress. the food was lovely and filled us all up. The service was excellent and very quick. The over all experience was wonderful and would be happy to eat there again. My raffle ticket number is 347.

Please try and have a bit more foresight regarding to good to go bags. I understand you have to cancel if there isn’t going to be food waste (which don’t get me wrong, is a good thing) but it was cancelled so late I was already on the way so didn’t find out until opened the app when I arrived.

It has been improved recently, the table service is now quicker( taking order for drinks etc) is now much faster than before. The food is cooked well and over all from the cook to the other staff are great. Mind you chef has always been great and has five stars from me

Just had a carvery at Cardiff gate and. I have got to say this was the best visit I have had to date, although they are very good anyway. Becky was our server today and she was so attentive, polite and purely wonderful as a server and such a lovely personality. The food was absolutely top notch as well so a great visit was had by my family and myself. I would totally recommend the Toby carvery at Cardiff gate - 213

Not great. Turned up for breakfast mid week. There were no eggs available, the food looked like it had been out quite a while under a lot of heat and there did not seem to be many staff around. Whilst eating, I noticed several customers waiting at the serving area to see if any eggs were going to arrive. Sadly not. Staff were friendly and polite and I'm sure for a carvery it's decent - pass on breakfast though.

i never usually have to write reviews on this place but i found the lack of staff for such a massive restaurant so appalling that i have to say something. we were waiting around 10 minutes just to be seated in a line of people who were equally as exasperated. after finally being seated, all we are able to see is this one young girl running around frantically after everybody in the restaurant. i didn’t get her name but the name on the receipt was amber, she was super nice and happy despite the conditions, but there was a point in time where we were speaking to her about ordering some sides and we got interrupted by another table (quite rudely) and she was so insanely busy that she completely forgot she was talking to us. seriously, where are the staff in this place? one young woman shouldn’t have to be taking care of everything when the restaurant is completely full, it’s just not fair, especially for somebody like me who works in food service as well.
